  • What are the biggest problems facing the construction industry? Some might say it's labor shortage or procurement delays but those are just the aftermath of an even bigger problem. In this video, I'll reveal the truth about the construction industry and what you can do right now to make a change!
    Make this Contract with the construction industry!
    Contract with the Construction Industry Proposal:
    If this will happen:
    --Owners mandate the use of Integrated Delivery methodologies.
    --Owners stop using a competitive bid process for selecting contractors.
    --Considerably reduce Design-Bid-Build contract deliveries.
    --Construction companies never stop recruiting, hiring, and training the best people.
    --Everyone stop agreeing to bad schedule durations. Use Takt planning for proposals and in Schematic Design and use LPS® and Scrum for short-interval planning.
    --Implement Takt Planning, LPS®, & Scrum as the main scheduling systems.
    --Begin using Procurement logs and Procurement tracking systems again from day 1 and bring materials JIT. Stop blaming COVID-19 for irresponsible planning.
    --Involve trade partners in pre-construction as design-assist partners whenever possible.
    --Allow the people who will build the project to plan their project in Pre-construction.
    --Hold a serious fresh eyes meeting for every project with a group of experts that can provide a thorough review.
    --Stop handcuffing project teams with mandated softwares that claim to do what humans should do. Only use thoroughly tested applications.
    --Owners reduce or stop changing things after the contractor has begun.
    --Be responsible with phased design and construction. Don’t proceed before you are actually ready.
    --Prefabricate assemblies on site as a default, not as just a good idea.
    --Design the construction trailer with as much intentionality as your home kitchen to create integrated environments that are inclusive of workers and foremen.
    --Take care of workers and…
    * Provide nice bathrooms
    * Provide great lunchrooms
    * Hold worker huddles and connect with them
    * Provide a clean, safe, and organized project
    * Reward workers every month with an event or gathering
    --Increase the training of your people X4. Support craft training organizations and programs.
    --Start listening to the experts doing the work and enable them to help plan and improve the work.
    --Bring back the role of field engineer and actually train your construction managers before they become Supers and PMs.
    --Remove CPM contract language from contracts.
    --Hire for and encourage diversity and safe environments that will support that diversity.
    --Scale best practices, wins, and proper education through social media, media, and other events at an increased rate.
    Watch And Enjoy!

    This is why I jumped ship from the field to a mostly office position. Former company wanted me to drive 50-100 minutes away unpaid there and back. Not to mention most of these places you had to get on a bus to get bussed in eating away another 30 minutes total there and back at a minimum that you could not clock in for. This leads to a huge chunk of time being unpaid a week. I was surprised at how degrading the industry is and it made me seriously question whether I wanted to stay in it.

    Thanks Jason for executing such sensitive subject with finesse... I can honestly say that if I show this video to every person that I worked with when I was in the trades for over three decades... they would all agree 100%, I can also tell you that out of the hundreds of people I worked with for over 30 yrs. maybe 10 recruited their kids. Yet they were all die hard Union guys, but would not pass the baton for many of those reasons especially the disrespect reasons you articulated.

      We put our money together over here and come together with Mike I think we got some of his vice president for you over construction as a as a spectator you can come up with me on this deal and we work it out and make money and save lives and deal with humor a little better fashion

    Curious as to your full definition of the word respect and… why you think disrespect persists?

    • @jasonwilliamschroeder
      @jasonwilliamschroeder  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Respect for resources, specifically trades. And disrespect coming from prioritizing deadlines over the well ending of people. The interesting part is there is a way to meet deadlines and respect people if we plan properly.

      @@jasonwilliamschroederThat's the biggest issue, prioritizing deadlines and pushing inexperienced workers. We recently had a new building constructed in the worst I've ever seen all thanks to idiots in my company pushing contract workers to hurry up. Now we have a mess of a building that looks amazing on the surface... but the infrastructure... I hope karma gets to the people whom pushed these construction workers. It's already unraveling on us
