Fantastic project. As others have said, you heat the METAL not the solder. There are smaller sizes of solder too and smaller tips for your gun which will make it work a lil better. What you are doing there is called a cold solder. It will hold, for a while, but is not going to like vibration and won't hold for very long.
Solder flows where there is heat... e.g. if you heat the paperclip and the LED lead wire first, and then touch the solder to that once it's hot enough to melt, the solder will flow across it. Resin core helps, as does using some flux. This works, though, and if you don't mind screwing around with tiny pieces of solder, go for it!
Instead of using paperclips bud, i highly recommend you strip a chunk of Ethernet cable cat-5 and you can have 8 wires small enough for your needs and is easier to hide and bend than a paperclip
+Drunkens & Dragons: Play D&D Like a Badass Thinner solder helps, but can be done with the thicker stuff. I take electrical tape and tape the wires down at least one side. Straighten a length of the solder out on the roll. Then basically hold the wires down with the soldering iron and add the solder to it. The solder should flow towards the heat. If you aren't getting it to melt after a very short amount of time, try adding some solder to the end of soldering iron first and then touching it to the wires, this will help transfer heat from the soldering iron. I do this all directly on my work table which is just some stained plywood.
@@Runehammer1 Yes there better ways to solder, you have to understand how solder flows and how the flux burns off. This video has a few tips th-cam.com/video/Fp37DPZVdRI/w-d-xo.html
cool diy looks good this would be awesome for campfire aswell instead of using rocks oyu can make some sort of base that has wood or something similar , or maybe turn it into a crystal for mines ! . and that south park mheaaaa makes it more epic
Not the best soldering tutorial for begginers, you almost had it, tough the iron on the metal paperclip connection and the heat will melt the solder into the joint, instead of heating the solder and expecting it to stick to cold metal. just fyi, doing a good job tho man!
Heard! We keep trying, but game session vids can be quite terrible without a camera man. Still trying to figure exactly how to capture our actual sessions. The mere presence of a camera can alter people's behavior and make them clam up. By Odin, it WILL be done!

I have never seen soldering done like that awsome

Other than the solder method, this is pretty awesome.

Cool . DM Scotty referenced you. Subscribed.
Thank you...I now have an idea on how I can do my glowing crystals of Malcar the magus between DM Scotty's video and yours.
+Shannon Stokely niiiiice
could you post a link somewhere for where you purchase your sculpting foam? I can't find it locally and I'm not sure exactly what kind I need.
check out black magic craft's video about it...lots ofinfo

You Rock!
cool vid. which part makes the flickering though?
they just do
so weird, ok
candle flicker LEDs incorporate a tiny chip into the bulb. If you look around, you can find them super cheap -- just search for "candle flicker LED"

For anyone else who's looking into these, I found four packs of these lights at the dollar store. Three bucks, 12 lamps.
+John Reeves Good find. I found them at Dollar Tree 2 for $1.

I smell solder now
wow that's awesome :D
As a warhammer hobbyist, it bothers me that you didn't paint it to greater detail! Other than that, this is a fantastic vid.
+W3s7in never meant to cause you any sorrow...never meant to cause you any pain...
+Drunkens & Dragons: Play D&D Like a Badass Oh but you have! Tower of Death has scared me for life...

Anyway - Keep it up and keep it real. This is some real quality content you've got going here!
