Those playoff teams were built by Mangini and Tannenbaum. They drafted Mangold, Ferguson, Revis, Cotchery, Keller, Harris, Greene etc. With the exception of Gholston they did pretty well. Rex was good at maximizing their potential but was terrible at scouting talent at the collegiate level. Tannenbaum tried to solve the problem by throwing money at past their prime players like Burress or scrubs like Chaz Schillens(remember him lol). Sanchez had talent but not elite talent. He lacked awareness but he had grit and athleticism. The Jets failed him by not repleneshing the team with talent through the draft as once the Mangini era players left they started bringing in scrubs that only exposed Sanchez’ weaknesses.

I think the hope was the Jets would continue to build up that defense and build around their running game to put him in the best position to succeed going forward, but they ended up losing some key players and things went downhill. Sanchez had that epic fumble and never recovered. Unfortunate. Still, he gave us two great seasons which is more than we can say for the other QB busts.
If only they didn't strip away the weapons on offense he may have turned out better QB wise. But heck it's 2018 and the draft is in a couple days. Lets learn from the past shall we

First two years he figured out his greatest strength was managing the run game & throwing in motion through play action. Biggest losses were letting Cotchery & Braylon walk. Would have let Holmes walked & kept those two with Keller.
