The hall and stairs look lovely, real cottage style, love the way you've trying to keep the original features and make small changes to improve the quality and use able space in a little cornish cottage.

The rule of thumb I’ve read from designers is that if you need to turn on lights during the day, there’s not enough natural light for bright white walls. That’s where the slightly darker greiges work well. Still light, but not stark, which tends to just look dingy without enough natural light. Yay you, for figuring this out on your own! Can you tell us the color you are using in the hallway? I’d like to add it to my list of possibilities for a room in painting soon. Love your lovely home!

I loathe carpets - very unhealty.
But the Brits love it. I prefer the
Scandinavian look of decor. Simple, clean looking no carpets.
Maybe a floor rug but only for
      decor as such.

I know this is kind of a weird compliment but I really like how slow these reno videos are coming out! It really feels like I'm right there with you doing it - it's so real! Instead of just a big "before and after" flashy video where outside contractors did the whole thing in a few weeks. This is so cosy and beautiful, I'm learning loads, and I love seeing the progress as it turns into your dream home! So much love going into this house!

Hot tip: Keep the carpeting! It makes great lining fabric for the car if you have a mucky job, or great dust sheeting to catch paint drips etc/store painty/muddy shoes on later on! we have carpet scraps that are over 20 years old that still work great for that sort of thing :)

Hiya Madeleine, an idea to save having to pull up skirting near landing is ----------leave it as it looks correct visually as its the line of top floor skirting-so leave it and simply wedge in a piece of plasterboard in the area under the skirting so it also comes out to overlap the floorboards and gap at side of step,so piece plasterboard becomes the wall.Ripping off that line skirting may leave huge mess behind . Hope this helps save you bother xx

Thank you for setting realistic expectations about house renovations. Even some """simple""" stairs and a corridor take quite a lot of time if you want to do it right, so I'm glad you're showing the real process. Also the overall renovation taking place over many months is way more realistic than those channels were they do a different room each day. Good job!

There is usually a gap between the skirting and the floor from when the skirting is installed. However if you’ve had your floor reinforced with plywood it will bring the height of the floor up meaning the carpet won’t fit in the gap anymore.
