i hope they re-release a version 2.0 of their Eta legioss which they fix the issues on their first release legioss especially thos elbow joints it really need a ratchet gears to prevent it from drooping down the gun
I loved Robotech as kid! I have the original 'Eta'(the blue one) toy from my childhood, I believe my parents picked it up from K-Mart back in the 80s. It stands about 12" tall. Im missing the accessories and the knee guards broke off long ago. Is there a used market for these toys?
hi people i write from venezuela to ask a little question in you opinion who is the company to fabricate the best veritech fighter planes in terms of decoration and transform captabilities?
Excellent review, as always. Shame the asking price for these is absurd given the mediocre design and QC. The Legioss is always doomed for some reason, at least we finally got a proper Garland from Arcadia.
The design is fine, IMHO. The reason why it's still around is Robotech as far as the West is concerned. Mospeada on its own wasn't that popular. I guess the timeslot it aired in was not a good one and the show (1983) is a very obvious clone of SDF Macross (1982). Considering Mospeada is a Tatsunoko series and Tatsunoko provided production support and financing on SDF Macross (for which it was awarded controversially in retrospect the international distribution rights to the SDF Macross TV series in perpetuity), it's very obvious they blatantly copied the last idea that worked. The one thing you can say was original to Mospeada were the transforming motorcycles. Those they didn't have in Macross! So, $260 for a toy? Not worth it! I don't think the last releases of these things from Harmony Gold's website broke even $80 -- well maybe for the Beta/Tread fighter but that's a larger piece. They DID release Mospeada on Blu ray in Japan, though... Not happening in the US. HG honestly doesn't believe the market exists to release any of these shows OR Robotech on Blu ray. I've never understood that company and the way it handles its properties sometimes. At this point, I think 2/3 of the "Robotech faithful" (I still think the show's fine; the Macross property in general is handled HORRIBLY but that's on both sides of the Pacific, all licensing issues aside!), have pretty much given up on HG, come 2021 or not. You KNOW why 2021 is an important date....
Harmony Gold is keeping the Robotech name... That will not go to another company. What they will probably lose the rights to UNLESS they pay a re-up free to Tatsunoko is the animation footage. HG would STILL retain the rights to the English audio (and other dub tracks) as well as the original music it commissioned for Robotech. Tatsunoko would have to buy Robotech off HG's hands but it doesn't look like they will do that. That still doesn't help the Macross situation because Tatsunoko owns the international rights to the original series. This is what I try to get across to people but they DON'T LISTEN! It doesn't matter if HG comes or goes, anybody that wants SDF Macross in the West has to ultimately go through Tatsunoko. The other Macross series and the 1984 Macross:DYRL are a different story -- those are owned by Big West/Studio Nue. BW are the ones being dicks about the international licenses to the Macross sequels and the fact of the matter is that NOBODY blocked the licenses to Macross II and Macross Plus in the 1990s. Until a few years ago, they were printing DVDs for both those OVAs and you can still get copies of Macross II last I saw online. What happened with Macross 7 was that the music rights were complicated; 1 company or 2 allegedly DID try to license it but gave up because of the music clearance issues. That entire show is built around rock music and it would be screwed up if you can't license the music to it. As it is, it's a very silly show aimed at small children. It was popular in Japan with the group it was aimed at but I suspect it would have failed in the West and those of us who have seen Mac 7 have generally not liked it! I suppose if you like Pokemon and kids-centered series you MIGHT like it but hardcore science fiction fans (people who generally like Gundam) would HATE Macross 7. It would have bombed worse than Macross II did in BOTH Japan and the West. Around the time Macross 7 was airing, another US company tried to license the 1984 Macross feature film directly from Big West. They were told flat out, "NO," and shown the door. I was at the company rep meeting at Anime Expo (1994 or 1995) when the Animeigo president told that story to the Macross fans. A few years later, Animeigo licensed SDF Macross but they did that through Harmony Gold who had the 16mm film dupes provided to them through Tatsunoko nearly 20 years earlier when they originally started Robotech as a dub of Macross. Animeigo could not get anywhere dealing with Big West. ************************ ************************ I think both Mac 7 and Macross Delta are garbage myself. Only about half the Macross sequels are worth licensing (Plus, Zero, and Frontier) and the best show is still the original. Macross is in trouble. Kawamori is in creative control of that franchise and he's clearly run out of ideas. He's always been up and down as far as his output goes. His best work is SDF Macross, Macross:DYRL, Macross Plus, and Escaflowne. His other shows are just forgettable or awful. Arjuna has an infamous reputation and I don't even know about his last non-Macross series or even really care about it. I just know that the set-ups for Mac 7 and Macross Delta were so offensively stupid to me that I didn't bother to watch those shows past episode one. I know other Macross fans have watched those series in their entirety hoping they would get better but they didn't. It's amazing Macross 7 did as well as it did in Japan with the movie and OVA spin-offs but it's just a bad concept and I really, really detested the lead character (Basara Nekki) and I just can't force myself to watch shows with leads that I don't like. Frankly, I think HG is fooling themselves with the live-action Robotech movie. The Robotech fans already aren't enthusiastic about much of what HG's done these past 10 years. They've dangled the carrot of the Robotech franchise sequel for too long and I think most of us have moved on since Shadow Chronicles which wasn't bad, not great... They waited too long on the sequel business and I think people have given up now. Heck, the still-living voice actors have moved on and Tony Oliver nowadays is better known as the main English voice for Lupin III than he is Rick Hunter/Hikaru Ichijo! The Robotech Academy proposal did not fly (coulda been good, coulda been awful; we'll never know -- the enthusiasm wasn't there and people wanted a Shadow Chronicles follow-on!) and the live-action film will FAIL if it looks nothing like the Robotech people are used to. HG can't use the Macross designs legally so if the SDF-1 ends up looking generic (SDF-3 design, Shadow Chronicles) and we don't get VF-1's that look sorta like F-14s, people are going to hate it. It's already going to be mega-expensive, at least $150million, and HG is dealing with Sony which isn't even handling Spider-Man very well on their own.
Hi! I'm a huge fan of Robotech, I wanted to have one of these since I was a Kid in the late 80's. I'm considering to buy one of these, but watching your videos I noticed there are several options from various manufacturers. Can you recommend me a good product? I wrote down these products: 1. Toynami's Masterpiece Collection Alpha, 2. Aoshima's New Century Alloy Legioss, 3. Evolution Toy Zeta/Eta Legioss, and 4. Gakken ???. Is there any other option? Which one do you think is the best one?
Sentinel is working on a new Legioss/Alpha for 2019. I would wait to see what they come up with before diving in on any of the existing offerings. The ET may be the best currently available but it's expensive and still only so-so.
Honestly, making an Alpha/Beta fighters in general seems like a lesson in failure. There is just way too much size shifting going on in the animation to make this thing look good.

I would REALLY like a re-issue of the Matchbox SDF-1.
Had no idea Sentinel was doing A Legioss, and Rook and Lancer's Ride Armor to. Thanks for the heads up.

Fighter mode is still a fail. When are they gonna fix the arms in fighter mode and make the feet/thrusters collapsible to be shorter in fighter mode?
My Zeta has the floppy elbow joint too, so it's not just yours.
Yeah but do these have booster packs like from the shows that you can get with them???
The Tlead bomber? no, they never produced one, it would have been massive

I actually love the design; it's pure 1980s mecha class. My issue is purely with the toy's engineering and overall quality.
The design is fine, IMHO.

20:22 How I feel about this toys
Nice, review. Got my Zeta last week
for that price..i am VERY disappointed. glad to see they haven't improved at all.

Amazing reviews, as always! This ET Legioss are nice, but too much expensive for its quality (in my opinion). Waiting for Legioss by Sentinel...
You would think as much as ALL these TOYS cost, that QUALITY would be a priority.
This toy would be ok if ET wasn't so sloppy on the minor details.
the best legioss toy ever made?
Sadly, the best of a truly mediocre lot.
Honestly, making an Alpha/Beta fighters in general seems like a lesson in failure. There is just way too much size shifting going on in the animation to make this thing look good.
Here's hoping Sentinel can finally pull it off...
if only hasbro or some 3p/ko company make this toy....it will most definitely solves all the problems and improves the overall figure!!
why hasbro?????? they have NOTHING to do with mospeada
you are about the only guy that has anything positive to say about these toys, I don't get it
Increíble pero Real😅
安物ぽい 私なら買わない!!
Smells like garbage
