I did 2 light coats like they said. I didn't know what to expect. I hope I don't have any issues. It will be very hard to remove those parts without removing the glass.
my 2 cents worth...run the old glass if you can get it installed w/o breaking it.When you find the glass you ultimately want you can always just break the old one and get your rubber and trim out w/o damage then your just out some labor...and practice. another cool vid! thanks
That rubber looks well made, that old glass looks ok also, it's not like people from far away will notice it anyways, only car guys up close will notice
Nice idea on the wire instead of the string. I always managed to break the string half way through the install. I can't wait to see you driving it down the road. :-)
Thats to bad about not finding clear glass, but you got to do what you have to to get the car on the road this summer! Plus I'm sure once your behind the wheel with you hair in the breeze you'll forget all about the small stone chips in the glass :) Nice work Greg!!!
Too late for you Greg, but here's some tips for anyone else tackling this job: Go ahead and get the cheap gaskets but use 8 inch strips of duct tape going 90 degrees to the gasket to to hold the gasket in place while you work it on. Do this about every 8 inches. You can remove them once you get the gasket on the glass and are ready to put the wire or parachute cord (my pref) in the back grove.
Maybe it"s just me, but $300 for a new window seems pretty much in line with what I've been paying, have to agree though, green would look goofy IMO. Hope they come through for you eventually, there's nothing like new glass to go with new paint on a restored car. I'd do the same thing, throw the old one in for now, it's really not that big of a deal changing windshields once you've done it. Thanks for the video!
I like th3 Bulldog promoter to once in a while when something needs that extra bite,,,I found that just using a single coat instead of like the directions say to use 2 actually is better than then the "gummy" type build it hasif to much is on there..not knocking it all just have been through some isses with it.. good to see ya workingon the car ..
sucks when ya cant get what u want when u want it but i would do the same just so i could enjoy the car sooner, wnen u r cruizing down the road and enjoying the ride u wont even acknowledge those small blemishes, looking good greg,tc
TH-camr "restodan" made a video about his "special formula" for polishing aluminum trim, if you're interested-- I think it's 63 Impala video # 49 where he covers it
Hi Greg, I know your video is 9 years old and wondering you can help me on something. My '72 windshield is 17" height in center. I have difficulty to find the exact same size. Found one that is 1/4" taller but it will hit the teeth and overlap the frame. I want to keep the teeth for American style trim. Appreciate any of your members can help me out too. Thank you all.
Weed wacker line is a damn good idea. I didn't even think of that one. Something tells me you've installed a few windshields in acvws over the years.

Yeah. I had visions of the string fraying off and leaving me with a problem. I can't wait to make the video of the first drive.
You are spot on Rick. There will be plenty of time to change it out when I can get the right glass.

Nice work! And good call on not going the a square windshield.
Gotta love putting in the windows. I used weedeater string on mine. Keep up the good work. Can't wait to see it done

Stay tuned for the nail biting sequal. All kinds of twists and turns.

I think your right the clear glass seems better - not really sure why - green glass just makes me think of looking through a heineken bottle
I like the thought of weedeater string.
Can't miss summer when you have a drop top in wait.
Yes. The molded corners were worth a few extra bucks.

Yeah, the green just doesn't float my boat... What can you do???
I agree. The extra coin for the german rubber was well worth it. This car will never be in a judged show, so people can say whatever they want!
Big advancement getting the glass back in.
Looks good Greg!
Yes. I want to drive it SOON.

You bet. I got 2 days this weekend on it and I hope to get more quality time this week. I should have a vid here pretty soon.
Yeah, I'm sorta floored. I'm sure they'll have them soon enough.
Yep. That's right in line.
consider my fingers crossed! i'm sure it'l turn out great, but glass is scary to work with.
I like the way you think!
Finally some time to work on the car and catch up on vids. Would you believe I'm this far behind?
That bastard. Gets me every time.
Yeah, I thought round corners would fit better with this curvy car.

I'm sure $300 is reasonable for glass. It just seems all the costs come in $500 chunks.

Gotta agree there.
Agreed.
Good advice.
Thanks Ron

I found a source for about $250... I'll swap when the time is right.
Cool stuff
That's what I'm thinking.
at least you dident paint your old moldings and slap them in,,
i like the seal
I should have used some "chrome" rattle bomb!
HAHA. Hair in the breeze. I'll have to buy a wig!!! :D
300 is what i was told.then it has to be shipped.
HAHA... That's me.
Word on the street is that you are making this way too difficult.
+Sad Tree Productions You may be right... Not as easy as it looks though... That's for sure.
