    There's more hard drives than there are recipes + you can buy hard drives in the A.W.E.S.O.M.E. Shop in late game. Great video but to anyone else dealing with the inability to choose between two great recipes or two terrible recipes - if you play the game long enough, you'll be able to unlock everything and still have a hard drive left over

      Good point. You'll can get them all if you want them. But it's still sometimes tough to choose which recipes to use in your factory

    OMG! Thank you for making this video, so tired of TH-camrs telling me that their favourite alt recipe is the best, or there's only one "right" way to use oil!
    I'm doing a max power run - tapping every resource on the map that can conceivably give me power and maximising the power output from those resources (usage doesn't matter, only production). Constantly having someone tell me I need to sink all my fuel into making more plastic or rubber, when I'm already drowning in polymer resin, is rediculous!
    Great video explaining how to decide yourself what you need, rather than just be told how to play this sandbox game.

      No problem glad you enjoyed it. That is the exact reason I made the video as I was also sick of being told which recipe are rubbish and which are best when it's so situational.

    I love the sentiments behind this video. No perfect for one case. No need to mega build if you like design, etc.
    And I would love to meet these creators with dozens of hours to build. I get one or two hours a night. Wish I was retired. I’d put in ten hours a day.

    Sometimes its just fun to use alternate recipes for the sake of it or depending on where you build even if it isn't 'optimal.' I decided to place my steel factory near the big lake in the northern forest and because of that I decided I would use the oil nearby for rubber and use flexible heavy frames and flexible framework even though most would recommend heavy encased frames because why not?

      Yeah man it's a game after all so having fun is the main thing. You do you dude.

      I used the circuit board recipe that used petroleum coke, for the simple reason that I was building my computer factory immediately after making my first large oil processing factory, and I had literally thousands of petrol coke being produced as a byproduct. So, from my perspective at that time, it was basically free, as I also of course had a ton of plastic from that same factory.

    • @fromscratchgaming
      @fromscratchgaming  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Nevir202 yeah I very nearly used that recipe in my pre 1.0 play though when I messed up my calculations for my alaminum factory and made way to much pet coke, but ended up making it in to steel

    With 2500+ hours into this game, including much co-op with others, I think the best wisdom is there's many (very diverse) ways to play it, different players and different priorities. You, with chill lo-fi track, seem to get that. Subscribing.

    • @fromscratchgaming
      @fromscratchgaming  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the sub man. Yeah there are a tone of ways to play which is the best thing about the game.
      And yeah I'm definitely going for that chill chuck the video on in the background while you play vibes

    I also write off power consumption. I've recently built a second block of fuel generators for rocket fuel(got too lazy with first one and made it produce 600 fuel), the second one I managed to utilize almost all of the 1000 rocket fuel. Over 80 gigawatts of power and all of that lake in mushroom lake on the edge of the map is riddled with fuel generators

    • @fromscratchgaming
      @fromscratchgaming  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Fair enough. I also don't think to much about power consumption but it's not the same for everyone.

    But there ARE best, universal, recipes. Sure, most alternates have a tradeoff, but some of them are strictly better than the base ones : heavy encased frames, iron wire + stitched RIP, cast screws for early game...

    • @fromscratchgaming
      @fromscratchgaming  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I get where your coming from but I politely disagree.
      Is iron wire better than caterium wire or fused wire? It depends on what your production line is. I did say there is better and worse recipes and in the video even pointed out reicpies that you mentioned. My point is that not that there are no bad recpies but there is no one beat recpies for all situations and all people, the game would be worse if that were the case

    You mic volume is very low FYI.
    An early-mid game alt recipe that I've been using is the Crystal Computer, which enables you to make Computers with Assemblers vs Manufacturers. This has a two-fold benefit in using a lot less power to make computers, and you can double production with APA with two somersloops, vs 4 needed for a manufacturer. Only downside is you need to run manufacturers to make lots of Crystal Oscillators.

      Another upside is when you combine it with silica circuit boards, you can make computers without a single drop of crude oil. It's my favourite way to automate computers in the mid game.

    Really good video. Respectfully disagree. It is true that no one recipe is the 'best' in a very general sense, but, for everyone, in each save file, one of them will be objectively 'the best' for that run. One of them will be the one that mathematically saved the most time and resources. Odds are good it will even be one of the ones you highlighted, depending on the save file's goal and the person's build habits.
    If you don't finish phase 4, the odds are actually pretty good it will have been cast screws. If you go all the way to the golden nut, that recipe will almost certainly have been iron wire, and it won't have been close. If you consider the save file as 'finished' at some point in between these two extremes, it is still very likely to have been the two aluminum ones , or the HOR+Diluted Fuel+Recycled oil products loop.
    Yes, that mean there isn't a one singular 'best' but there is certainly a 'top 10' best alt recipes that are objectively the ones that save the most players the most amounts of time, effort, resources, and I would argue that the big youtubers you're trying to disagree with here all hashed out these same sentiments with their equally opposite click-bait-y titles.

    • @fromscratchgaming

      Thanks for your epic comment! That kinda what I was going for that there is a best recipe for you and your playthough but not an over all best for every situation. And so my aim was to give advice on how to grade a recipe depending on what you are trying to do.
      As for other TH-camrs your 100% and I nearly recommended totals video on the best early game alts at the end of this video but it didn't fit in to the flow so I cut it. But he and others do a great job of explaining what situations each alt od good for.
      But there is one, I won't name names as that's not what this is about, who can be very dismissive of people disagreeing when they make a best recipe video and I kinda wanted to make a counter point to that kinda attitude.
