I worked with a trackman at the dlr he told me the reason that the dirt was nolonger raked after a race was the little flap thing behind the rear wheel. I have to say I didn't believe him used to love getting covered in shale on 2nd bend at Hackney and the tracks just don't look the same anymore

The days of proper bikes and proper speedway. Riders had to have skill and throttle control.

All four riders in this heat are real racers...this type of track right up Loramski's street.

@@martynhepworthArchiveSpeedway Australian Speedway fan here. So what is it that they're using instead of dirt? What else could you use to run Bike's on, and still call it Speedway?

@frenzalrhomb6919 the way things are heading, it could be 'electric' motors!!! I hope not.

@@martynhepworthArchiveSpeedway hi yes I have seen electric and to be honest I think it would kill speedway the whole thing for me is the smell of fuel and the sound of the bikes .

Gerald Short would've been crowned World Champ on that track! 😉

Look at how low they had to get the bikes going into the corners !! Four riders riding today's laydowns at full throttle into the first corner would all end up in the fence....

Loving your channel, back in the day me and my dad went to see the Dons all the time, when Wimbledon Speedway club were more well known than their neighbours the football club and had a cooler stadium!
Sadly and ridiculously there is no Speedway in London anymore. Whenever I'm on my holidays I try to choose somewhere near a track so I can get my Speedway ' fix'.
Mind you my mum used to come sometimes in the 'old' days and always used to say first one to the first bend is always the winner 😂.
Well here one that proves you wrong Ma 🤥.

Oh, and as for planning holidays near tracks, my missus sussed that one out in the 80's 🤣

Anyone remember the name of the tune they used to play at Wimbledon at the start. 🤔

Note the angle of the slide is no where near as radical and cornering speed is way up there. The delicate balancing act at a slippery track is more suited for the ballerina types.

Hamill would have been over the fence on one of todays bikes.
Speedway died for me when they lay downs took over, it’s just not the same and for what, an extra few mph. 😞
