We met this couple at the El Campo Van meet up. They are wonderful and extremely talented! I wish we would have had more time to spend together. Until we meet again, happy travels and stay safe.

36 days to complete! Very impressive. This is one of the best vanlife interviews that I've seen. Everything seems very well thought out. I'd like to see what they carry in the trailer. Although pulling a trailer can be challenging I'm sure the extra capacity makes life on the road so much more enjoyable. I'm sure Ray utilized every cubic inch of it to the max. It's great to see young couples that are so happy and free-spirited.

Wow, what a great pair you two are. The advice you gave was so helpful. I loved the comment the wiring under the insulation was so spot on! Tip heard, tip taken. I was going to go the renting route until I stumbled onto a new 4x4 170 Sprinter. Having a 4x4 was my number one wish, which I had given up on because it is easier to find a unicorn that poops money. So yes, there are probably some options I don't have that I would like to have but this deal showed up out of nowhere and I made the move. Having an engineering background and more importantly having friends who have gone this way has helped. All said though, I agree with most everything you said. I wish I had that much maturity when I was your age. I am 62 and doing this by myself so I'm feeling pretty positive. It also helps that I lived on ships and small boats for a large part of my career. I am comfortable in small places and love organization. Thanks for all the good advice and most of all keep enjoying you unique lifestyle.

I have also opted out of corporate life for many of the same reasons. You voiced it so well, and I appreciate your perspectives and found your comments very inspirational. The van is a beauty!
Living on my own terms is why I am moving into a van so I can relate to them. Keeping my day job and not wanting to be judged by co-workers about this lifestyle is why I will limit who I tell at first. I will say that the people that do know seem like they are willing to make that mental leap to understand. Another thing I can relate to is health and mental benefits. My goal is to work less now that I am going to live in a van I can do that. Their van is awesome and differently #vangoals.
I am making the leap soon and I made the mistake in telling people about what I am planning. Now they all think I am mental and i am not thinking straight. I am trying to stay positive but sometimes it becomes hard.

S reed I didn’t use a contractor. I kept it simple and my son in-law built my bed from a piece of plywood and I used other things that I had in my apartment. Bought a cabinet from ikea etc

I was able to remove the starter with no jack and fix a broken bolt. Lucky my on board hardware store had the right size bolt. I suggest if you cannot have a trailer like these guys have some tools, hardware and learn how to use them. Off to go by a good floor jack and stands. Merry Christmas everyone. What a wonderful young couple.. Living their dream. They are both lucky to have each other and enjoying the way they live.. :) In the next 3-5 years I will hit the road and live full time in a van or RV and travel around Australia.. Hope to find a partner like this lucky guy has found..
I've seen so many builds that cover the wires and other important things and I thought the same thing to not bury them in case of repairs. Good to hear that from someone else. 😊

This is a great van build. Very impressive for the short time it took. I’d like to see lithium batteries but they are expensive. It is a little harder for Canadians to live the RV lifestyle because of the weather but they are doing it and look happy. Cheers!!!
Obviously Raynor is a great guy and happy to be on the road with Madison. But, that thousand mile stare reminds me of Jon Gosselin when his wife was on her 4th subject in a 2 minute rant. Madison has the presentation skills and Raynor can build at an Olympic level, so I'm sure those attributes will take them wherever they want to go. I'm a Metris guy until my E-350 4x4 Sportsmobile is done ... in about a year. Your build gave me an idea about a change I have time to make. @james braselton I sold the my E-350 Sportsmobile and Metris to some xpats in Argentina. I have a half built T-350 now with a 6 cylinder. The ICE engines are on their way out but I need my 4x4 retirement home ASAP. Once the EV industry supports my needs I'll be making the switch. Sportsmobile starts production on 5-11 but I'm 2 months away from my build slot. Strange times.
Yes, great build Ray. I have a skoolie, but no imagination or skills or a good place to work on it.... I would need lots of help, cause I have not found a "Crazy Partner", to do it with me....(live this life with me). Living this life alone, scared me the most.... Perfect statements to the end! The beginners bild or buy 'the perfect mobile home' - what they then think ist - before they leave - and when retired. The experienced start 30 years earlier and leave with work in progress - and return with what suits them perfect. All necessary work and changes will be down on the road and have to be down on the way - you will always find opportunity and (great) people!
In a german workshops for instance for a Fiat Ducato based mobile home they would charge everybody between 90 and 110 € for one hour. And 4000 kilometers south in Mali or Senegal it's one € per day (1) for the mechanics. And they know their job as well - but you have to watch them every minute while they work. So always carry your new clutch, waterpump, drivebelt, your new disc brakes and brake pads and whatever you can think of with you and use the opportunities on the road! Never have your vehicle repaired before you leave - as long as it is legal. I found that I get used to it whith the time, i heard, if you go down to africa or Mexico, just do as the locals do, don't start with new tyres from your home but buy used ones down there. If it's good for the locals to cruise with at 60 or 80 kilometers an hour, they are good for me as well. And I have fitted used tires for my motorcycle down in the south as well for some time now, always a new experience - and just sports, not a lack of money.🤗 1 - you are said not to give two € per day, because that would spoil the prices and cause jealousy amongst the mechanics.

It has not been a factor for stealth at all. Actually the opposite, most people just look at it as a contractor vehicle with the trailer. But that's a good suggestion if we need to be a little more nimble. Happy travels 👍

I always think it's best to run wires in PVC tubes.also run through backs of cupboards and up to ceiling.

This is a great van build. Very impressive for the short time it took. I’d like to see lithium batteries but they are expensive. It is a little harder for Canadians to live the RV lifestyle because of the weather but they are doing it and look happy. Cheers!!!
Since filming, we have upgraded to lithium. It's wonderful to have the extra power AND more storage space under the bed.

Obviously Raynor is a great guy and happy to be on the road with Madison. But, that thousand mile stare reminds me of Jon Gosselin when his wife was on her 4th subject in a 2 minute rant. Madison has the presentation skills and Raynor can build at an Olympic level, so I'm sure those attributes will take them wherever they want to go. I'm a Metris guy until my E-350 4x4 Sportsmobile is done ... in about a year. Your build gave me an idea about a change I have time to make. Thanks a ton for the tour guys, great job on the van and the clip.

@james braselton I sold the my E-350 Sportsmobile and Metris to some xpats in Argentina. I have a half built T-350 now with a 6 cylinder. The ICE engines are on their way out but I need my 4x4 retirement home ASAP. Once the EV industry supports my needs I'll be making the switch. Sportsmobile starts production on 5-11 but I'm 2 months away from my build slot. Strange times.

People who don't "get-it" (vanlife) fail to see that life is much richer, wider, and deeper than they are brave enough to venture. Oh well.....
I swear, people are so judgmental. lmao.. the guy is just uncomfortable with the camera. No big deal. Raynor sounds like an amazing guy, close to my own heart in terms of being shy, but mechanically inclined and driven to be creative.

You guys Rock! If you need an off street place to park traveling thru south central Minnesota.....we are ON the Mississippi.....multiple micro breweries within 15 miles and we have a tandem mtn. bike and kayak you can borrow.....

Perfect statements to the end! The beginners bild or buy 'the perfect mobile home' - what they then think ist - before they leave - and when retired. The experienced start 30 years earlier and leave with work in progress - and return with what suits them perfect.
All necessary work and changes will be down on the road and have to be down on the way - you will always find opportunity and (great) people!
In a german workshops for instance for a Fiat Ducato based mobile home they would charge everybody between 90 and 110 € for one hour. And 4000 kilometers south in Mali or Senegal it's one € per day (1) for the mechanics. And they know their job as well - but you have to watch them every minute while they work. So always carry your new clutch, waterpump, drivebelt, your new disc brakes and brake pads and whatever you can think of with you and use the opportunities on the road! Never have your vehicle repaired before you leave - as long as it is legal.
I found that I get used to it whith the time, i heard, if you go down to africa or Mexico, just do as the locals do, don't start with new tyres from your home but buy used ones down there. If it's good for the locals to cruise with at 60 or 80 kilometers an hour, they are good for me as well. And I have fitted used tires for my motorcycle down in the south as well for some time now, always a new experience - and just sports, not a lack of money.🤗
1 - you are said not to give two € per day, because that would spoil the prices and cause jealousy amongst the mechanics.

very talented well thought out build. Here in America we have storage units every 2 miles. Could you store the trailer somewhere to gain more stealth, or has it not been a factor?
It has not been a factor for stealth at all. Actually the opposite, most people just look at it as a contractor vehicle with the trailer. But that's a good suggestion if we need to be a little more nimble. Happy travels 👍
