    I broke these connectors while doing valve covers and breather covers on an M112 and M113. Here is the link to that video (M112, M113 Valve Cover Gasket and Breather Cover Reseal):

      It happened exactly the same to me , now my car is shaking at idle sometimes while driving like a misfire could this possibly cause that?

    This is one of the best produced DIY Mercedes maintenance/repair videos I've seen! (And I've viewed a TON over the years)
    The up-close views, the zoomed in and paused parts...

    Excellent video and presentation with step-by-step instructions on how to do this. Love your patience and ease of doing this. Replaced my spark plugs, DIY about two weeks ago on W219. The connector clips break off very easily due to brittleness from the heat over the years. My car is about 15 years old. This is the first time I have had the problem with a broken clip not staying in place to the connector. I've had it happen on my other cars with no problem. I put wire tape to hold it in place for the time being. This is on piston one misfire on my engine vibrating heavily because of the broken connector not staying stationary. This video was very helpful. Now I need to purchase some new ones and replace. Thanks for showing how to do this job. Very nice.

      Yes, that's what I was worried about, too -- the connector coming loose, for example on bumpy roads. And they are so brittle: I broke all six of them doing a W163. I needed them quickly, so I bought them through my local MB dealer: I found that if you use the "buy online, pick up at store" option you will get a lower price than if you just walk in and order them. Good luck!

    I have just done this on my car and I have to tell you that if the plastic is too old it will break very easily. So make sure you hold the wires in a firm position before you try to break the plastic.
    Older versions of this part may have a plastic cover that the newer ones don't.

      @@L35inColorado With a great respect to you, have already watched it, it is really smooth and perfect job ! But i think the actuator in my car just stuck in cold , it goes actually between cold and neutral (white zone). Should i demount all the dash board ? Is it necessary to disconnect the battery (negative, positive or both) before replacing these connectors? All of the clips are broken. Could this cause a slightly rough idle?

    • @L35inColorado
      @L35inColorado  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, it is not necessary to disconnect the battery for this repair. If the broken connector clips are taped, or otherwise secured, then the electrical connection will be good, and they should be not a cause of rough idle, per se. But, if any one of these connectors is loose or vibrating (and therfore interrupting spark for a cylinder), then yes, it could certainly cause rough idle. I hope that helps - good luck! : )

  • @RLAE420
    @RLAE420 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I see that getting a used one isn’t gonna work cause I’m gonna have to break those tabs in order to pull the connectors out and if you have to break tabs it obviously won’t hold on my already broken one so you have to get a new one or can I splice the pigtail?

    • @L35inColorado
      @L35inColorado  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, you can always splice the pigtail; just note that since this is for ignition, you will want to be sure that you have a very good (low resistance) wire splice in that case. The alternative is to buy the new replacement part (as shown in the video), because, as you point out, attempting to replace a broken connector with a used connector is not likely to work since the used one will probably break, too!
      It is unfortunate that MB used such brittle plastic for these connectors, but at least there are replacement connectors for a reasonable price.
      I hope that helps - thanks for watching! : )

    • @RLAE420
      @RLAE420 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @L35inColorado thanks for the reply as in low resistance what does that mean. If it's getting full voltage?

  • @peterhandyman9256

    My connectors look different and does not have a mercedes part number but rather it says CODE i 2868. I have a 99 ml320 m112 engine. What is the part number of your coil pack? Mine is A000-158-73-03, just to see if that same connector can fit mine. Great presentation and voice modulation BTW.

    • @L35inColorado
      @L35inColorado  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't check the part number of the coil packs right now, but using the part number you gave (A000-158-73-03), that is indeed showing as the old part number for the coil packs used on the '03 ML350 and '05 ML500, which are now part number A000-158-780-38:
      mbparts.mbusa.com/oem-parts/mercedes-benz-ignition-coil-000158780380
      That page says that the part number above (A000-158-780-38) superceded your part number (A000-158-73-03), as well as A000-158-78-03 and A000-158-78-03-64.
      Perhaps you can give your dealer a call and double-check that the connector will fit: typically when MB changes a coil part number as a replacement part, the old connector will fit the old coil and the new coil, but you're right to notice the difference, and so hopefully the dealer can sort it out!
      I hope that helps -- good luck! : )
