Is it possible to have Brian or whoever was the A1 in the control tower in for an interview to give some insight into what mixing a show like this is like?
As someone who does mainly small gigs and sound for church, I can’t even imagine the anxiety I would have if I was behind that board. Let alone the person designing that system. This is a whole other world
Niznuts123 TBH, if your at that point, your not. If your sitting in that chair, all foreseeable ends are covered. Literally you don’t even think about the pressure. It’s all just gas and break.
Man this is good stuff... if they can rock a 6 box hang for fill that works I'm going to get over my "I need a 12 box hang" for every production. Would love to see more background from guys working at this scale! 🔊
Thanks for the message! It's so much fun to be able to share what crews like MSI are able to do with the right tools & experience. I'm doing my best to set up more of these types of videos in the very near future. Thanks again!
Man, this channel is gold. I’m learning about Dante and hanging line arrays, but you can’t teach this stuff in class. I feel like I’m standing right next to you on location as you walk through the system. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Thanks so much for bringing us this video! This is excellent content and I really enjoyed getting an overview of how they pull off such an impressive feat
Well said! They have definitely made improvements in deployment over the years, I worked the 07 and 08 NYE with them and they were using Optocore at the time.
And still! It depends on the need, weather conditions and so many things that you already know, can coexist. There are still resolved installations between one system and another.
@@FVDaudio very true. I was reading a focusrite article that talked about the dante system in place through out the square that interfaced all the trucks as well as the the connection to the PA. It didn't say if it was the same network as the PA or a separate one. This is the article I read and seemed very sensible: pro.focusrite.com/rednet-all-mobile-nye
Wow! I always imagined this was a real feat to make happen, but this exceeded anything I imagined. Blows my mind in perfect conditions. Then add rain and cold and dark and a crush of people! Wow!
Lovely overview of this production! Everyone fill and stand your positions. Work in your team well, let everyone be on "that" page in the grand scheme. With run of show in hand..... Here we go!
Oversimplified? Holy crap. By the pictures alone, I'm dumbfounded. That takes some masterful planning and execution, not to mention the sheer amount of equipment to manage. Thanks for sharing!!
An excellent presentation as usual. As an old-school analog guy, I would be interested in the progression of the system design over the years, going back 5, 10, 15, 20 years, as far back as you can go, with special emphasis on the analog days, and the early digital networks. Don't gloss over anything. I understand that this may require multiple videos, or a longer video than you would normally do.
longhairedtechie I’m sure you understand, but all audio at the end of the chain is analog. The bigger and more advanced systems I get to work on at the end of the day, really are just big analog kitties. I’m of the mind that the old school and the new school are easily fused.
No wonder the tv broadcast sounded amazing, outstanding work! Were all the stages going into this one mixer at 1:52 or were there more mixers in other places?
fantastic video. Always wondered how and what company did events like this. I've been doing live sound for 30+ year in bars for local bands. I work in a level 1 trauma center and am no stranger to stress. HOWEVER, you couldn't pay me enough money to work/mix a job like this! Thankyou for this and your other videos. I've learned a lot from you.
Great insurance and lots of backups I'd imagine. Not sure if anything got damaged, perhaps someone from the crew will see this and let us know in the future.
No, they are handing from Maryland Sound's custom speaker towers. Fun Fact: The city actually cut back on the allowance for cable weight on the city poles this year, which helped push the transition to the Dante Audio network, requiring far less cable to be flown overhead at each location & saving the aging city poles.
Hi everybody. I want to ask you one thing. My boyfriend runs an audio service company here in Italy. In the future we're very interested to do a work experience in NY for a couple of months. Is it possible for him to join the Maryland Sound crew even if he's not come from NY?
Funny enough, their engineers can’t get their new DiGiCo consoles on any jobs recently since they’ve been out on long cross rentals. A very good problem to have I’d say. But the Studer met the i/O needs and was available in inventory for this one from what I understand.
Hey, at the end of that video hug that cutie that tried to eat that lightbulb ha ha ha anyway our church was seriously thinking about going with MSI to do their new hundred or $500,000 sound system anyway I’ll end up with going to an outgoing with an outfit overseas in Germanybut in my opinion, I love JBL

I can certainly try to set that up if there is enough interest.
DcSoundOp Thank you! I hope there is. 😁
@@DcSoundOp Yes, please.
DcSoundOp I would be very interested in this, too!

I swear, the fact that ur doing that shit for a church really makes you look less sympathetic.
Can’t imagine what the rf spectrum looked like. Impressive work.
Incredibly well done. Thanks for sharing with us!
Super dope video. Thanks for the insight.

My Hat goes of to you guys for the dedicated hard work to run these show and half to deal with the cold weather!!!
The MSI crew are on a whole other level! Thanks for watching Richard!
Claire Bros. & MSI- Simply the BEST!!!
They do set themselves apart from the rest alright! Thanks for watching!

Thanks Jackson, hopefully we can get back to the bigger system walk through videos at some point. All the best, I appreciate the message.
That is some crazy shit man! Great Job getting the information and shots you could during that busy time and space!
Thanks Ryan, it was a seriously hectic day, but I had it easy compared to the crew working that gig!

Absolutely, the Optocore stuff is really cool, but the new Dante deployment fits this show incredibly well.
DcSoundOp yeah I think the Dante setup fits a lot better for this application than optocore.

Thanks Ocularis73!
Really impressive how quickly you turned this great walkthrough video around, mad props!
brimu Thanks! It was a bit of a challenge logistically, but a lot of fun.
I'd love to see a deeper dive in to the powere lay out and brake out a swell as lighting
Incredible operation, awesome video.
6:10 ..... i see a big no no in the background of this shot
awesome video btw!
😁
Not only is it sitting near the mixer, it's also a sorry excuse for real coffee.
Oh boy...
Thanks Rico!
Gotta put that excess heat from the MADI to Dante Rednet Rack to good use! 😳
This is a treat. Thanks so much for sharing!
Wish I could give this more than one upvote. Thanks Sir, great content.
What a fantastic video!
I walked through the gear as it was going up last year around the 28th. You covered it beautifully!

How did all of that expensive electronic equipment function in the pouring rain?
Great insurance and lots of backups I'd imagine. Not sure if anything got damaged, perhaps someone from the crew will see this and let us know in the future.
@@DcSoundOp Thanks for the reply! Great video by the way!
8:33 Anyone know what song that is?
Trying to get me a copyright strike for that clip?
DcSoundOp haha nah. Just love the song, want to try it on my system
Very informative video thanks
Impressive overview! Very impressive and inspiring to appreciate all that is involved! 👍👏👏👏
Fantastic video!
Great video!
Jbl A12 or to small for this type of event?
I wonder what the total I/O count was for a production like this. Do you know?
I honestly don't know the total count, perhaps someone from the crew could let us know if they ever did a full count of everything.
Thanks so much!
Which company provided lighting production?
are the speakers are hanging from the standar city cable pole??
No, they are handing from Maryland Sound's custom speaker towers.
Fun Fact: The city actually cut back on the allowance for cable weight on the city poles this year, which helped push the transition to the Dante Audio network, requiring far less cable to be flown overhead at each location & saving the aging city poles.
Question about the Dante setup. Are they using fiber between endpoints or wireless or just plain old copper?
Nice catch at 3:31. That kid totally avoids the Grinch and leaves him hanging. LOL
All the rednet racks are connected using fiber.
@@Beghty27 Thanks
Take a breath!

impressive overview thanks.

That’s badass

Everyone's name starts with a B. LOL oooo that Starbucks cup is TOO close to that console! Oh man.
Once you get to be this level you can put your drink wherever you feel like. These guys put in enough hours on this show to warrant it.

We all love the DiGiCo but the Studer is Harman so HiQnet and management might play in 🤷♂️ (It also has pretty channel strips)

The guy that did the mix

New york is known around the world as the real world ads and lots of mcdonalds.
