Love how with every project these guys just refuse to be labelled as a single genre. You can broadly describe them as experimental but the industrial, punk, hip hop, electronic, psychedelic, hardcore, noise, and lo fi influences are just so overlapping its hard just call them like industrial hip hop or electropunk.
Yep, RYM is so dumb how they just call all of their albums "hardcore hip-hop". Most of this album is pure noise rock. Just cause the vocalist is black doesn't automatically make it hip-hop smh....

Saw them play this live at One Eyed Jacks in 2015. When the distorted fuzz kicked in that you hear at 0:50 I swear, even with earplugs, it was the loudest sound I had ever experienced it was just piercing through my earplugs clear as day.

It was like this extremely high frequency sound too, it felt like I was just reduced to a soundwave, I felt nothing but pure pain in sound form throughout my whole body, completely unique experience, don't know if I could say it was a good one without being some sort of masochist.
I got The Powers That B for christmas and was really eager to listen to it, since I purposefully hadn't listened to Turned Off and Beyond Alive until I got the album on CD.
So my gf asked if she could listen along.
So yeah, Turned Off was the first DG song she ever heard. Needless to say, she was a bit shocked and just sat there in silence for two minutes, until she asked "Is the CD broken?"

Death Grips is usually billed as an "experimental hip hop" outfit, but as far as I can tell, these guys are more punk than Crass. They have all that satisfying righteous indignation, but-unlike angry crusties-sound like they could actually throw a punch. Yes, punk is dead, but take heart: here is its zombie corpse. It's as lovely as you'd expect. And more aggressive.
How can you compare "classic" punk to this? You're talking about a 20+ year difference. Just because this is "hardcore" in your definition doesn't make it more punk than Crass. Punk is more than music, it's lyrics as well. I definitely hear a punk influence but it's not punk just for being aggressive.
