When Steve said that he loved running at Eldora, that kind of hit home for me, as I remember watching him win the 22nd King's Royal there back in 2005. After the race, when he and Tony Stewart went up to the press box so Steve could collect his winnings, my family and I were exiting the grandstands as he and Tony were leaving the press box. I called out to him, trying to get an autograph. Steve turned around and looked right at me. I got star struck, and stupidly waved to him, never getting that autograph. My sister was able to get his autograph on a Gutswear Racing T-shirt. Just the memory of Steve "The King" Kinser waving to me, a 14 year-old kid from Leslie, MI, will stick with me throughout the rest of my life. Thank you, Steve, for waving to me.

When I was a kid watching World of Outlaws in Terre Haute Indiana (prob 30 years ago) , Steve got caught up in a crash first lap of the A-main and flipped. They towed his car into the pits. After the race we went to see his car and they were making repairs to get it into the trailer. The front wing was damaged and laying on the ground. I asked one of the crew members if they were going to throw it out , I asked if the weren't if i could have it. They went over to Steve and asked him and he came over personally and asked if i wanted him to sign it . Amazing memory and something ill never forget .

Many many years ago when Steve was still a force to be reckoned with every night they were racing at Hartford Mi at the Wicked 1/2 mile that was craaaaazy fast. So I had seen Steve driving out of a track earlier in the year and I just remembered what his motorcoach looked like. So, it's probably 2 months later and my step brother and I are walking along the road to get in and I happened to notice that The King was pulling his motorcoach in and rolling slowly along with traffic so my step bro and I got down on our knees and started going up and down with our hands extended out like you salute the "The King" Steve had the biggest smile on his face and you could tell he was getting a good laugh out of it. He gave us a big ol' smile and a thumbs-up. It just all fell into place and it turned out to be pretty cool

@@HistoryMysteryMan It was an Outlaw show at Butler Motorspeedway my favorite track. Well they would light the whole place up with 3 100watt light bulbs and 2 were in the bathrooms. So anyway in the old days lighting wasn't all that great and there were definitely some pretty dark spots in between each light. So they go down into turn 3 and this guy who had picked the absolute worst day EVER to make his debut in a what had to be an old pavement sprint car because it never even leaned over. So he is out front and they just swallow him up and into 3 he gets flipping. The first time it rips the top wing off and the second time around he comes flying out of the top of the cage and he is still in the seated position (like you sit in a sprint car) and he lands onto Doug Wolfgangs nose wing. I don't think it hurt the guy but later they said that he had bolted a kids school chair into that car only 1 bolt was still through the chair leg with a nut on it but it was a total disaster. I also watched a younger kid. this is when I was helping on a 410 dirt sprinter. Well we were at the Dealers Choice, the last big week of racing. From Monday to Sunday. 10-12 classes of cars and I am pretty sure that there is close to 450 race cars or even more. So anyway I watch this kid during hot laps and the car stands straight up and plows in every turn. So I walked over and asked very politely if I could give him a hand on the car. At first he was kind like "no man I got this" and then his girlfriend pulled him over and he turn back to me and said...... Ok sure. Man oh man... He had bought someones complete sprint car operation and it was a 410 pavement car.
So with Chuck's (my driver I help with) help he got 4 torsion bars picked out for him and we made some complete wholesale changes to the car and when he came back in after the next hot laps session he was so wound up and he grabbed me and gave me a big ass hug and he said "DUDE!!!, I rode the F'kin cushion all the way around the whole track" He was so funny tellin me every single detail on how he did this and the car did that etc.
That was one of the coolest moments for me.

One of Steve's greatest wins was at the Denver track, and it was a race that didn't finish until around 3:00 AM. I think Steve may have ended up at the back of the back at least twice or maybe even 3x's. At one point a rock punctured the oil canister in Steve's car. I went from the stands into the pits and asked him somewhat sarcastically if he could win the race. He said he was going to try. There were so many red flags in that race, he finally worked his way up on every restart to eventually win it. All in all, it was a pretty amazing win.

How do we know Steve isn't helping? Through advice, contacts, mentorship, money? Just because we might not see Steve at most of Kraig's races, doesn't mean lack of Steve's support. But it would be interesting to delve more into this subject.

But the one that stands out was when the CRA came east with their non wing races....the stop at Eldora someone put up a bounty of I think ,$10,000 if someone beat the California racers....Steve and Karl rolled in ...took off the wing.....and before the race when Karl was interviewed he was asked what his chances were....he said the wingless 11 was fast enough to win but he wasn't sure if the driver was up to it....he showed those CRA guys the short way around The Big E

You can buy all of the parts that billyjoejimbob has bought for his car but for some reason he is almost a second faster than you on the stopwatch. It takes a man that can turn the wrenches just enough to have it do what the driver wants and then he also has to sell the changes to the driver. When I was about 11 years old at a 2 day outlaw show and so during the day I was sitting on a right rear tire watching Kieth Kauffman and his crew guy groove and sipe tires for that nights racing and I asked Kieth what the biggest difference between a midget and a sprint car is and he answered me without hesitation and said "A midget goes where you want it to and you kind of just AIM! a sprint car. I'll never forget that. Man that was probably 1979 or 1980 and I think Sammy was driving the Nance house car in a enclosed trailer when I think Steve had the only other enclosed trailer. That's when a world of outlaws show at the Butler speedway by Coldwater, MI would have 45+ sprint cars show up. The 70's and then the wings brought on the 80's when I guy could race a sprint car for $300 dollars a night...... Now its atleast $1000. to pull in the pits and unload. Probably closer to $1500 and they are racing for $2500 $=100 to start the feature.... maybe. Sprint cars should race every night for $5000 to win..... you would get 30 cars or more I
I need to win the lottery and build the baddest dirt track ever.
    Peace

You ask some good questions, Don, but you gotta learn to choose and phrase a lot of queries better, to shut up more and let them talk. Too often, you interrupt with some inane comment just as they seem to be ready to expound.
