    Still amazes me when you see people that have had it done by many of these companies and men in a van saying they can feel a difference after. I had a proper intake off carbon clean on my 8p RS3 years ago when I was getting 5 new injectors and couldn’t feel a noticeable difference 😂
    My main argument is that if these snake oil treatments worked so well then why don’t these companies do before an after comparisons? Probably because they would get called to task by advertising standards.

    It’s why a port injection engine will always be better for longevity. A truly great video, so get your carbon cleaned and just buy new injectors all round.

    Really informative video and excellent detailed explanation. I’ve seen mobile carbon cleaning services which look attractive for bog standard family diesel, but they still put additives in your fuel tank. I’m guessing anything that is going into the fuel tank other than fuel is basically a massive red flag?

    Isn’t injector cleaning different from de carbonising the back of the inlet valves. Can you tell me if my 2006 Aston V8 Vantage is GDI or port injection and if GDI is it worth fitting an oil catch can so the oil mist doesn’t go into the inlet

    Cut off the ends of a load of cable ties, all different lengths and rough cut, bundle em up. Put em in a drill , get a hoover , wizz em down your intakes, cheaper than walnuts.

    Had an engineer who was working 150 miles away get a stone chip on his screen. Found a one man band who could repair it for £60 , which was a bargain as Autoglass wanted over £200 !! . He called me when it was done and said, while he was there, he could do an 'engine clean' on the van. Said it would pay for itself with fuel savings and this and that........... ended up as la la la in my head. Can't remember what he was going to charge me as I said no straight away, paid the screen repair and off he went.
    My old man, when I was a kid, did the same theory on his MGB with a bottle of Redex. That decoked the engine , allegedly. We went for a drive after it soaked in overnight and it looked like an almighty fog suddenly appeared behind us for at least 10 to 15 miles of plumes , like I had never seen. It may have caused accidents, I would never have seen it. Did it work ? No idea. We started with a gutless 85 bhp in a lot of pig iron B series engine and ended up pretty much the same, so guess not.🤣

  • @Peppermint1
    @Peppermint1 ปีที่แล้ว

    There is a little more to the story. To eliminate the carbon build-up problem in GDI engines. some car makers such as Hyundai and perhaps Honda took a cheap fix - they reprogrammed the car computer to pump extra rich air-fuel mixture at cold starts for several minutes. Result is, some of the gasoline doesn't burn and it's coating the combustion chamber = the intake valves now stay clean. However, as with any cheap solution come ugly-side effects. Some of that unburnt gasoline leaks past the pistons and dilutes the engine oil. Results : kaboom Hyundai engines and severe cam damage on Honda engines.

    • @varmastiko2908

      It's not the combustion chamber side of the valve that needs cleaning. It's the other side which doesn't benefit from your described intervention.

    I've seen A LOT of cleaners for direct injection cars that are introduced on the intake side to clean the back of the valves. No amount of fuel additive is going to clean a valve when it will never see the back of the valve. I think most of these cleaners are just toluline, so on a chemical level, it should work.

    I use to work as a insurance broker and te amount of engines that blow insurance know some policies don't even cover anything if you have a carbon clean. I had multiple claims from vans to super saloons, it never empties out the engine and coats the engine, so when you use if your car survives it's heavy internal damage.

    • @REPerformanceUK

      I don’t know who they would tell if we had done an inlet system carbon clean via walnut shell? I can’t see how it would cause failure either.
      I understand the point with the “terrible clean” style systems.

  • @christopherboyle1479
    @christopherboyle1479 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is it not also the point that in a direct injection engine, the magic potion passing through the injectors is downstream of the carbon buildup on the backs of the inlet valves? It cannot do anything about that.

No bloody way was I going to drive a car with technology that is based on sticking an oily rag up the exhaust to collect deposits and live with the long term implications. Modern cars have just got worse and worse as they address EU emissions.

    I agree with everything, except (and it's not only you guys) when people say 're-burn exhaust gas', exhaust gas is inert, it can't be burned again. It's primary function is to be reintroduced to aid in bringing down NOx emissions. This is done twofold by reducing the available space in the combustion chamber for combustion to take place and allowing some of the temperature of combustion to be absorbed by the exhaust gas thereby reducing peak cylinder temperatures, in turn reducing the formation of NOx as it is high combustion temperature that increases NOx formation. Just a pet peeve of mine 🤣

    • @REPerformanceUK
      @REPerformanceUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So you are the 1 person in the 4500 views so far who would have differentiated between my 1 line and the paragraph you wrote! Lol
      If I laid the scientific process down to everything all the viewers would be asleep! 😂😂
      I agree with what you say, but remember in an Otto engine the exhaust gases still carry HC which is unburnt fuel, as combustion always occurs below lambda 1 so there has to be unburnt fuel molecules! 😉

    • @AB-gt5sl
      @AB-gt5sl 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha sorry, I was just being pedantic. I didn't mean it as a derogatory comment in the slightest. This is very true, I guess you do have to balance it out, maybe EGR could be a video unto itself? Aha. Would that not be insignificant in theory? How far below lambda 1 would combustion occur because under light load cruise conditions is the fuelling strategy to aim for stoic? Obviously it's never bang on because you only know what's happened in the combustion chamber after combustion as the sensors are downstream but wouldn't that mean in theory the burn is ever so slightly rich, then lean? Is it ever ideal? I'm not being an arse here, this is a genuine question and why you guys do this job and not me. I'm always up for being educated and will happily take it on the chin if I'm wrong. I know this was not the topic of the video so my bad for spamming the comments aha. What I said earlier was what I was taught about EGR a long time ago now.

    • @REPerformanceUK
      @REPerformanceUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AB-gt5sl Wasn't taken badly at all mate! It is emissions based control as we true and tune it out completely a it messes up accel and decel enrichment/enleanment for dynamic throttle movement. But yes, in theory when you move to a closed throttle position an then small opening afterwards that's when EGR would be engaged to try and help tidy up the exhaust gases after being under load. It is reactive as if you are under heavy load for long periods it doesn't do anything. Cruising i would expect lambda to be between .98 and lambda 1 depending on car and age etc.
