The way I think of it: A person can like to listen to Whitney Houston, then enjoy listening to Cyndi Lauper, and Bob Dylan in the next couple of songs. It's about contributing to the song's vibe and hitting the notes on time within your limits. Don't worry about what any other singer (famous or not) does for technique or tone. Nothing should feel uncomfortable. Most of all, the energy must be there, and the only way to achieve that is to be in the moment having more fun than you've ever had. You CAN sing...Do it YOUR way and everyone else has to spend time practicing and attempting to sing like you. Need more encouragement? Tiny Tim and Yoko Ono have sold lots of records and have fan bases...
I use that exact capo trick quite a lot Will, you're bang on there broham. I never experienced "writers block" In fact I've written complete songs, and I'm talking solid rock and metal songs in five minutes! Usually it takes an hour maybe an hour and a half. Does it work up the neck or all over it?
