DuckSageVentures: The Great North American Drake Wood Duck

The first Wood Duck I have ever harvested on the farm. Out of character for the old woody to stick around so long. Makes sense in such un-seasonably warm conditions we experienced going into the first days and weeks of winter on the Pacific Flyway. These ducks are usually the first to head south when colder weather hits. Or is that just we think?

I'm new to duck hunting. if you put wigeon decoys out would you make wigeon calls even if you didn't see birds.

Yes, a touch of realism goes a long way if Widgeon are in the area, which they were. I always try to match the different species in an area with decoys and calls to match. If more than one person is in the blind, one can always be on the widgeon whistle.
