“Nwantiti” and “Mwantinti” are 2 different words with different origins, different meanings in Igbo language and similar meanings in pidgin language.
Yes, we played with the alliteration of these 2 words but they are actually different.
The “Mwantinti” word in this song was derived from a “Chewa” word in Malawi which is “Mwa nti” meaning “Kwambiri” which literally translates to “a lot” or “in abundance”.
Therefore, adding the second “nti” to this phrase is a hyperbole like saying, “a lot, a lot” of love! It simply translates to “love in too much abundance.” {Literal Translation}.
In Igbo language, “Nwantiti” means small. “Love Nwantiti “ translates to small love, however in pidgin language or colloquially it means sweet love, love that makes you go crazy.
