I think we all get the dark clouds of depression come into our lives from time to time where we get the “I guess I just feel like” emotions that can sometimes get the best of us. The first part of this song is coming to grips with those emotions, and then the second part after he switches to the electric guitar is him embracing those emotions with the knowledge that it’s only temporary and this too shall pass. So we should all learn to relish in the highs and the lows knowing it’s all part of the journey and we are all imperfect.

John just brings it to you with this tune! There's no escaping the reality he is presenting. I particularly love that he's weighed in on himself as also falling victim, yes victim, to the conditions that we all find ourselves facing, that are actually just part of what our culture has somewhat come to on any given day. I love him and this tune. I love that he lands us on our feet by ending with hope. Hope floats tomorrow, and will continue to float this Creative Genius, A Master, The Man and THE KING ❣💡🌟💎👑🎄

Please don't take this the wrong way as I'm a huge John Mayer fan, but I feel like this solo is his nemesis whenever he plays it live. It's like John really struggles to reproduce the sentiments and calibre of the original album solo for this song and is searching for the right key. And yet he never seems to have this issue with any other song. Perhaps the fact it took him so many cuts and splices to put together the original album version has something to do with it (video of this is on TH-cam)

No offense but that doesn’t really translate with most players. This solo is flat out better than the original. He’s done multiple versions of this that are far more technically finessed than the album one Albany 2022 is another one that shines over the OG

@@antoineaquino3055 That’s the nature of blues, really. It’s technically B Mixo, but he’s hitting tons of B Blues/B Dorian. It’s blurring the lines between them on purpose…bending those thirds somewhere between a maj and min.
