  • As part of my promotions for the Tomb Of Gyzaengaxx Kickstarter on the Bob World Builder channel, I got to interview the founders of Gooey Cube and Gaxx Worx: Alphinius Goo and Luke Gygax. One life-long fan and one with D&D in his DNA, both of these publishers have loved roleplaying games since the 1970s, and it was wonderful to chat with them about the past, present, and future of RPGs through questions from the community!
While this post on the Bob's RPG Radio channel is not technically paid-for/sponsored, the interview was scheduled as part of sponsorship campaign on the Bob World Builder channel, and this full version includes a segment about their upcoming product.
▶️ This recording contains the full interview from Tuesday Feb 13, 2024. For a shorter "highlight-reel" breakdown of the conversation, visit the Bob World Builder TH-cam channel: • Luke GYGAX on the Begi...

Love the understated stinger of a tape being inserted and presumably the beginning of a recording.

Awesome. Love Bob, Luke, and Alphinius! Love old school adventures, lampooning and grimdark too. I will line up for adventures that are QUICK TO PREPARE. Down with 300-500 page adventures. I wasn't even aware this channel existed! Sometimes TH-cam isnt smart.

Instant subscription, didn't know Bob had 2nd channel. I really wish I could have backed that Kickstarter but I just can't justify waiting a year to get content that I paid $150 or so for. I'll have to check it out a your from now and get it through regular channels

We had a pool table but my father would have had our backsides if we used it. So we used our dining room table. We also used dominos, Chessex square roll up maps, which on the reverse side had hexes. This would be back in the late 1970s and into the early 1980s until I joined the military and went overseas to europe. Where I continued my gaming. Great video, love that dominoes were used by those in other areas, I grew up in Southern California myself.

The bit about all age levels playing together on an equal level is very true. That's something I hadn't deeply considered but it's true... RPGs are a great equalizer.

Listening into this (rather belatedly) and hearing Luke's comments on being a ranger hireling in the Hommlet adventure. Was he the original Elmo?

IMO, the deep future of rpgs is in VR where you play on a virtual table top where you can physically move the pieces and you have full role play avatars that move with you

I think I'll always prefer sitting around a table using my imagination. That freedom is why I still prefer TTRPGs over video games, no matter how great those graphics are
