OH MY EnigmatikoProds! You are the best. Thank you so much! Every other video I have watched today kept instructing me to use the drop down menu of FPC Pads, clicking Map Notes for entire bank, and simply pushing each pad from Pad 1 (note 60) through Pad 16 (note 75) to assign the sounds in FPC to the pads. They made it sound like that is all I had to do! It's clearly not a simple as that. Yes, I still had to assign the sounds to the pads the way they had instructed me to, but not before configuring my MPD! NO ONE explained to me that I have to program/configure the MPD properly first! Thank you, for explaining to me that I need to find an Empty Preset, configure the notes in series from 28 - 91, across 4 banks (A,B,C, and D Banks on my MPD), before assigning the sounds to the pads in my DAW. I now have a specific saved Preset on my MPD, configured properly, with sound assigned pads from 28 - 91, across 4 banks (A,B,C, and D Banks on my MPD)! God bless you, you are the first and only audio guy I have ever subscribed to.
I think another very very important step was FL OPTIONS>MIDI Settings>AkaiMPD> Enable>ReScan MIDI Devices. The MPD was still playing notes that were assigned to pads in FPC, but before having followed your instructions I was totally unable to assign my own sounds to my MPD pads. Thanks again.
@problemzzzzzz Yeah I have my own FL preset too with cool mapping on knobs and faders too. Faders from 1 to 5 are for channel volumes (as you can see on my videos) and the last one controls the pitch of the active channel. The knobs control the "wet/dry" controller of the channels plugins effects.
Some advice not mentioned after you have inserted all the keys in order make sure you push "preset" and go to the right arrow ">" and select save to save your settings if you dont it will erase everytime you use it
You can take it anywhere as long as you have a laptop with some kind of DAW on it like fl studio. I would recommend either honestly for a beginner the first one i got was a 26 though. Also if you are looking for something you can take anywhere you are probably looking for something like a MPC. The MPD is a midi controller which means it doesn't have sounds in it. It controls programs and plays the sound from them.
yeah, this video kicks ass, i dont care much about the whole "notes" part midway through he video but good you added those for the people who wanted them. :) Thanks for the vid. i haven't plugged in my MPD24 to my FL in days so, glad I found this.
Thank you so much for your help bro! The only thing you didn't cover was what to do if FL9 didn't recognize your MIDI but I googled it like you said and got it anyway, thanks again
@NastyNatey Yes, It is velocity-sensitive, and not just that, it has 5 different velocity curves elegibles, and a button to play the last pad you touched on 16 sensitivities (each pad, one velocity) it has a "FULL LEVEL" button too, to play the pads at the maximum velocity independently how hard you press the pads, thats what I normally use for videos so I don't have to care about how hard I smash them.
@cadillaccam03 CC means Common Channel, that means (if I'm not wrong) that the MIDI controller will work in the "on top" plugin, it will be mapped to the plugin you selected. If you have various MIDI Controllers, and you want to assign each one to one plugin, you use different Channels, but with one for all plugins, you use Common Channel.
Hi there. first I wanna thank a lot for this tutorial. It's so clear to follow but I don't know why my pads doesn't sound when I hit'em after "map notes for entire banks". I did every steps properly, three times- every time the same way. I have no idea what's wrong. I've even changed the USB cabel but still nothing. When I was setting up my MPD first time but on other computer everything was good. Maybe the reason in a new version of FL Studio? Please help me if u can guys and sorry for my english.
Interesting. Whenever you will search Beat Generals in TH-cam they usually have FL teachings revealing how to make beats, mix beats, master beats, etc for everybody desiring a little extra help as well as wishing to try to improve!
@4mbition Sorry I believe its not possible, its just Slicex, when you load a short sound (for example a drum loop) the plugin itself detect the volume changes and make the markers itself. Anyway the best way to make your slices faster is pressing play and clicking the "NEW MARKER" button at right timing, then move and perfect the slices individually
Love the intro. Classic Funkadelics. "Super Stupid". One of my favorites. I grew up on this jam. "Maggot Brain" album. Man you took me back to a real Funky place with this one. HIT IT and QUIT IT. These were my boyz right here. Thanks for a dose of REAL PFunk. LOL SHAZAMM
Thank you very much man , I am now one step closer to making my first beat, I found the grid numbers particularly handy in this video, So i will do that and fingers x'd will get some music going . Thanks again
Hey man, much love for the video. just bought a mpd 32 and wasnt sure how to set it up with fruity loops. Did you buy it or does a pirate version works just fine for the recording nstuff?
To start off, great video! It's cool that people take time to make these to help the community. I'm running into a problem mapping individual drum sounds using FPC along with my MPD218 Midi controller. I've created 1 full bank of 16 sounds on 16 pads by dragging drum instruments from the packs folder, but when I attempt to map them on my midi controller, it maps multiple pads with different sounds simultaneously. It seems that if the midi notation is the same for 2 separate sounds, my mpd218 triggers all identical notes, regardless of what sound they are. For example, I have a clap and hi-hat that both register as F3 notes and whenever I try to map them, the mpd218 maps both of those sounds, not to the same pad, but to individual pads that are triggered when only one of them is pressed. so If the hi-hat is mapped to pad 10 and the clap is mapped to pad 6, once I press pad 6, pad 10 is also triggered and vice Versa. Now I guess my question is, how do I stop this from happening?
ok, man great video but I need to know why every time I hit a pad, the tempo in fl changes... it never stays on the tempo I set, please help. thank you
Slicex can not be mapped, but we know that the first chop starts from the MIDI note 60, so we configured our MPD to have that note on the first pad of the bank C, and then, 61, 62...
Hi, EnigmatikoProds here. (I don't even remember the pass to this channel) To everyone having all those good words: Thanks, really, it made me happy and very proud. And would help again with anything if it's in my hands. But for the rest.... blind fucks, at 1:10 you can see everything about presets, how to save them, even how to fucking rename them. Is it that confusing? Is it that hard to take the manual that came in the box? or even ask google about what you need? or GOOGLE THE MANUAL? 5 years ago, when I made this video, people got it pretty straight. The only problem about helping and tutorialing is that most people prefer to waste half a minute writting a comment and wait for other's time to be wasted, than two minutes finding solutions their own. Horrible. Thanks again everyone else having those good comments, I'm happy to help.
Make sure your MIDI setting are right, so FL Studio can see your MPD26 in the MIDI options settings. Then switch your MPD26 to Mode #5 for FL Studio. Then use FPC's Map for Entire Bank function. Then hit Pad1, then hit Pad2, then hit Pad3. Continue like that until you've tapped each pad along the way. Then save that so you don't have to do that again!
A question man (I dont speak english too well) I apreciate that when you touch the last note on the Slicex, you clicked only one time and the sound reproduced ALL the sound, no only the moment when you click, do you understand ? I hope. Veeeery good video, I'm Chilean and i understood all. Thanks
yes, Midi routing, search on google or youtube about "Link controller" option in FL Studio. Or you can see my tutorial of "Live beatmaking", there I say how to link em.
@imperialshalom it depends on your own opinion and work-style, think on the knobs, faders, banks, pads and "internal tools" (program change, postpressing, value control, MMC...) you could use another AKAI MPD/LPD, you could use some Korg pad controller too, there is another called "Triggerfinger"... with 16 pads all, but you could use the Novation Launchpad or another "launchpad style" tools of AKAI like APC40... (these controllers are preferable to use with Ableton Live) OH! AND THE PRICE!
hola amigo esa es tu portatil donde produces o solo la usas en este tutorial por que yo tengo una portatil pero no se si sea lo msimo q una de escritorio mi laptop es una vaio sony de 2 gb de ram es buena para prodcir??? jajajaj
I followed all the instructions, but I dont know how to save the preset after editing it. As soon as I hit preset again, it changes back to the default preset -_-
would you happen to know why my pads are not matching the notes on fl studio? for example, i tap a pad ,edit, change the note to c5, and then i look at my screen for fl studio and its playing c6, then i change to c6 and it plays c7. please help im about to throw this mpd232 across the room lol thanks alot awesome videos keep up the awesome work
Is It possible to put a pad once and then start playing loop non stop without a break until I push this pad once again ? Please send me some instructions how to do it on FL...
@NowahBeatz MPD has no sound... it is a MIDI controller, the REC button would not work as audio recorder but as score (MIDI notes) recorder. I think you should learn a bit about FL Studio basics, you have such a great tutorial integrated on it.
Yes, you should look for the "MPD16 Utility Software" program to edit your pad MIDI config. And with the other thing, what do you mean, it doesn't show it when you hit Rescan devices or something like that?
@danielectro6 It is a software for editing the preset with the PC and not with the self MPD, but with this tutorial you don't need Vyzex. And it is installed like a normal program.
Ok I tryed finding it out on my own and tryed fixing it. My problem is, when I transfer sounds to my mpd, useing FL be the way. I did you what did through the FPC and I'll hit one pad and it will work then if I hit the same one it will activate two pads, hit the same one activate three pads and so on. I don't understand why it's doing this. If you know how to fix this. Send me a message or make a quick vid, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
@EnigmatikoProds While I was looking online there were tons of other people who couldn't get it to recognize too, not just me. But what I found is that it has to do with logitec webcam drivers, they like to control everything, including any other audio inputs like music devices.
hi, this was very helpful.. only problem is i think i goofed up somewhere.. cuz when i go to map all pads.. it only plays the first row on my mpd and when i hit one note it plays 4 at a time. idk what i did. :( pls help
Would i be able to take it any were and make beats? Can you please give me information that i need to know about the mpd?which one would you prefer for a beginner?
@sarinoah When you are on the preset screen (with the name of the preset) you must press >> and you'll get the message "SAVE TO ##" then you press enter and it saves, or if you want to copy it on another number, you use the data wheel and you'll get the message "COPY TO ##" so you can copy it.
good tutorial. I found this all out on my own before, but I can`t find anywhere how to use fpc for one shots. (for clarification, when i do a roll I dont want the first hit, and every consecutive hit to keep playing as i speed up the roll, it sounds like garbage) thanks
Woaw your tutorial is very helpful!! Thanks a lot! But I have a problem, it's about knobs and fader in FL Studio : I can't control things which are in unfocused windows. ie. I add a "fruity fast LP", I set the LP amount to a fader, it works fine! Then I set amount of Gross Beat to a knob which is in mixer window, it works too but I can't control LP filter in the same time because the "fruity fast LP" window is unfocused, and when I switch to the LP window I can't control amount of gross beat...
@EnigmatikoProds :O osea que entonses que me conviene mas comprar un teclado MIDI o un MPD o seria casi lo mismo muchas gracias un saludo Enigmprods!!! es que aca en mex estan muy caros los akai el mpd26 me sale en U$280
@Margalus89 What you want, it's not about the set. Sadly you won't find MPD24 on stores, which I like, and I use FL Studio and you can watch my tutorials, but if you want Logic, I couldn't help you, for example.
I need some help i have the mpd16 this doesn't have the screen so how do i set it up im also having problems with fl studio not loading the mpd please if you can help?
@EnigmatikoProds i can find both for under 200 bucks here in Italy luckily! and i can have both FL Studio and Logic. i have another question..if i want to make beats based off samples like /watch?v=moWmF6vCIsY should i go for a midi controller like this or a keyboard? i want to produce old school beats like this, i have no need to play complex keyboard medleys or play too much live..just wanna produce my old school beats to rap on it
Hello, i work with Linux: Ubuntu Dream Studio. I understand that most consoles these day do not work with Linux. To make tunes and beats, do I have to plug it in to a computer or can i boost it right out the back into my mixer?
@skatefanboy123 The MPD has NO drums, it is a MIDI controller, it plays virtual notes that a DAW program (Like FL Studio) can transform into Drums (samples), Synth notes... whatever you want!
hey could you really help me? no im not trying to waste time im trying to take things slow........... how do you make it so sounds dont overlap after you drag and drop and "learn" the pads>
did you saved the preset AFTER completing all the proccess and it still losing the data when unplug? If it's correct, try using the preset editing software, creating the same preset (this time without the MPD, you'll need to make it on the computer) and importing it into the MPD and tell me if it works.
@Margalus89 Buy what you want! any of them will work fine (if they are MIDI of course), but I recommend you to use a pad controller (like mpd) because the drums and sampling will be easier with squares than with keys. And if you are looking for a no-MIDI system of sampling, go for an MPC, but they are so expensive!!
@PS3xMedia The youtube CHANNEL name (PS3xMedia / EnigmatikoProds) its unchangeable, but you can change your "title" by clicking on your name (up+right corner) and then clicking on "Account" then select "Profile Options" and here it is. My youtube is in Spanish so i've literally translated it, maybe there are some changes on names but search it :F
Hey there! I got everything set up thanks to your tutorial but somehow can't record anything I do on my MPD18. Do I just have to press Record, tap on the Pads and stuff, then press Record again? Or do I have to do some other stuff?
The best tutorial on the AKAI controller yet. and ive seen a shit ton, good job man, and thanx
OH MY EnigmatikoProds! You are the best. Thank you so much! Thanks I did this a few times not knowing how to finally save the preset
It's been a while since I did this....I'm setting it up for Output Arcade....Worked like a Charm
This video is still super handy to this day. Thanks man. Positive energy
Very helpful tutorial. The most thorough tutorial for this application and not one word was said 👏🏽
You can take it anywhere as long as you have a laptop with some kind of DAW on it like fl studio. I would recommend either honestly for a beginner the first one i got was a 26 though. OMG! Thats one of the BEST tutorials I have ever seen!!!! Keep'em coming!
Thanks. This was a BIG help in setting up a new and better preset for my mpd26.
@NastyNatey Yes, It is velocity-sensitive, and not just that, it has 5 different velocity curves elegibles, and a button to play the last pad you touched on 16 sensitivities (each pad, one velocity) it has a "FULL LEVEL" button too, to play the pads at the maximum velocity independently how hard you press the pads, thats what I normally use for videos so I don't have to care about how hard I smash them.
glad to hear it! "Hit it and quit it" by Funkadelic by the way, if you didn't find it
THANK YOU SO MUCH, i was having trouble with this setup. THANKS AGAIN!
That was really the most helpful tutorial ive seen! Not too long and told you what you needed straiqht forward! Thanks!!!
funkadelic, that just made go listen to that whole album. thank you!
@cadillaccam03 CC means Common Channel, that means (if I'm not wrong) that the MIDI controller will work in the "on top" plugin, it will be mapped to the plugin you selected. I didn't know I needed this tutorial until I found it. This is so useful ! Thanks a lot bruh
Thank you very much man , I am now one step closer to making my first beat, I found the grid numbers particularly handy in this video, So i will do that and fingers x'd will get some music going . Thanks again
Hey enigma i got my mpd 26 today and you helped me alot . thanks for this great tutorial.many many thanks.
@EnigmatikoProds Oh yes you're right!! It was in the "link to controller", it works fine now. Thank you! I love you ahah!
Not working!! I have the same MIDI Settings, and followed all the steps but the MPD is not sending midi signal to the DAW. I need help!!!!!
Yes, probablly, as long as it has a note-editing software or way to do it on the MPK itself.
I did everything in the video but it still doesn't work. there's no sound. Can someone help please?
When selecting the MPD in the "midi settings" did you click "enable"?
Hey man, much love for the video. just bought a mpd 32 and wasnt sure how to set it up with fruity loops. Did you buy it or does a pirate version works just fine for the recording nstuff?
@EnigmatikoProds ahh i see..
thanks Eni, again great tutorial
Happy New year!
it depends, with MPD you need to carry a PC, MPC are standalone, and the smallest probablly is the MPC 1000, besides MPC 500, that has less buttons
Great tutorial man, This'll help alot of people
Hey!!
I got a question: i have a Akai mpd 32
How do I save the preset configuration?? Every time I shut down, the notes get all mixed again
press the right arrow button under the enter key
To start off, great video! It's cool that people take time to make these to help the community. I'm running into a problem mapping individual drum sounds using FPC along with my MPD218 Midi controller. Now I guess my question is, how do I stop this from happening?
did u ever get an answer to this?
Very good bro! I've been trying to use mine in protools but I think I'm going to go back to fl for beat making. Thanks much!!
De lujo tio, muchissimas gracias, enserio. Con esto lo has hecho todo mucho más fácil.
¡Saludos Enigmatiko!
ok, man great video but I need to know why every time I hit a pad, the tempo in fl changes... it never stays on the tempo I set, please help. thank you
Simple and straight to the point, thanks!
how would we load samples into it to play while I DJ a gig
This video is mad instructive thanks for making it. Helped out alot.
Slicex can not be mapped, but we know that the first chop starts from the MIDI note 60, so we configured our MPD to have that note on the first pad of the bank C, and then, 61, 62...
Hi, EnigmatikoProds here. (I don't even remember the pass to this channel)

VAN17INO6 u the man bro!!
im tryng to make my chops to play in mono... i open fpc plug in go to Misc and change it to mono but nothing happens. why???? ;( plz help!
Yes, you can do the same thing with FPC, look on each pad, on the right of the plugin, the same "CUT - BY" options are there.
congratulations from brazil! thanks bro
thank's for the help!!!
simple and better...
A question man (I dont speak english too well)
I apreciate that when you touch the last note on the Slicex, you clicked only one time and the sound reproduced ALL the sound, no only the moment when you click, do you understand ? I hope. Veeeery good video, I'm Chilean and i understood all. Thanks

Maaaan big thank!! Nice and informatively!! Большое спасибо!
@TheCoronac That is some basic FL studio lesson, you have a GREEEEAT basic tutorial into the self FL.

Cheers boss, thanks for taking the time
@sarinoah When you are on the preset screen (with the name of the preset) you must press >> and you'll get the message "SAVE TO ##" then you press enter and it saves, or if you want to copy it on another number, you use the data wheel and you'll get the message "COPY TO ##" so you can copy it.
@gerlocon
Creia que era facil el ingles que usaba en el video, no tenia pensado ponerlos pero en fin, lo hare!
click on "channels" on the top menu, then "add one" and look for FPC, or right click on any existent channel and then "replace" or "insert" with FPC
Funkadelic! Nice man
good tutorial.
Then I set amount of Gross Beat to a knob which is in mixer window, it works too but I can't control LP filter in the same time because the "fruity fast LP" window is unfocused, and when I switch to the LP window I can't control amount of gross beat...
good video I like the music you used for the background .
Thanks for your help man I wished someone could do this for REASON too!! ;)
@DatNilla Well you just have to do the same you do to save the name, go to the preset screen, press >> and "SAVE TO #"
Whats better mpd or mpc. What kind of mpc is small and good that you can take anywhere
To make tunes and beats, do I have to plug it in to a computer or can i boost it right out the back into my mixer?
that was nice and to tha point !! Helped me out a lot
@PS3xMedia
The youtube CHANNEL name (PS3xMedia / EnigmatikoProds) its unchangeable, but you can change your "title" by clicking on your name (up+right corner) and then clicking on "Account" then select "Profile Options" and here it is.
My youtube is in Spanish so i've literally translated it, maybe there are some changes on names but search it :F
I got it right this time! thanks man!
My ASIO ''soundcard'' doesn´t recognize my akai mpd18 as an input when i try to record.. I tried pretty much everything I could find. Can you help me?
well I had that issue too once, it was named USB Device but, there is no problem on it as long as the rest works fine
Hey there! I got everything set up thanks to your tutorial but somehow can't record anything I do on my MPD18.
Do I just have to press Record, tap on the Pads and stuff, then press Record again? Or do I have to do some other stuff?
I bought my used and someone else had saved setting how do I delete everything to restore it back to factory presets?? global restore doesn't work
