I love your teaching style and voice. I can really listen to you without getting bored or sidetracked. I look forward to watching many more of your videos.
I just want to hug you!! As a true beginner with metals I need all the help I can get...and I got it from your soldering vids. I am finally making stacking rings, bracelets and I am sure there will be more. Thank you for sharing your expertise and fantastic sense of humour.
Man, Solder Girl, there is a lot to this soldering business. Heck, I went fifty years thinkin' there was plumbing solder, electrical solder, and then probably some kind for jewelry and stuff. You are educating a lot of us! Thanks.
You are a savior. An angel. This is amazing! Thank you for sharing your knowledge, it is so so hard to teach yourself these things and awesome tutorials like this are so rare!
i dont mean to be so off topic but does anyone know of a tool to log back into an instagram account?? I somehow forgot my account password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me.
I want you to know I have been binging on your videos. I recently started getting back involved in wire wrapping and I stumbled upon one of your vids. It's so nice refreshing everything I used to do. I'm constantly nodding at things you say, I look like a bobble head. Having said that I find I'm pulling out more and more equipment. Of course I need to buy a new flex-shaft, it's been 30+ years and a whole new torch system but one step at a time. Thank you, Nancy.
Never mind by trial( thankfully no errors) I found a fix..boiling lemon juice w/ un-iodized(pickling) salt.worked great then I cleaned my Revere ware...... but keep up the great vids. Thanks.
Nancy! you're the best and I'm watching your videos like a banshee and learning so much valuable knowledge from you. Thank you! The link to the 2nd video isn't working. Is there another video that you've got?
I just have to say that you are so cute!! I love your sense of humor almost as much as I love learning from your wealth of knowledge! Thanks for what you do!
So glad I found you and your channel! Can you tell me if it's possible to solder small fine silver beads to a sheet of sterling silver? I've been googling my brain out and haven't found a straightforward answer yet. Perhaps, I'm asking the wrong question.
Thank you Solder Girl! I never thought about the fact that the metal had to come to flow temperature and not just the solder. That explains some things lol!
Great video. I hope you can help me. I started working in jewelery industry just few months ago. Unfortunately I still struggle with sprueing silver models. Small items seams to be very easy but i need some tips how to sprue large and heavy items.
Nancy Love your Videos very helpful. Heeelp. I had to reprong a 10k gold casting. Melee prongs were cast too wimpy snapped one just test fitting the melee ruby.. So following instruction I got the prongs on there. BUT now the ring has red scale(copper) and flux in the fine details. how can I get rid of it w/o loosing the detail and between the melee prongs and the cathedral of main stone? I live 450 mls from any jewelry school so I attend HardKnocks Unv Thanks SOooo much for all your great vids & any help you can offer. subcrb'd
Ciao Nancy...!!! Grazie mille....👍👍👍
Thank you so much for making this video. It's difficult to find classes where I live, so I have to glean what information I can from the internet. This is such a helpful resource. Also, is that a cat sleeping in the basket behind you? I saw something move around back there a few times. :)
Hi Nancy 😭I need help! I soldered two pieces together, a bangle and a piece of metal together but it won't solder together, and the borex doesn't melt instead the flux gathers like a lump and nothing is done I wanna cry it's been a few hours
First of all I would like to thank you for sharing your expertise. A free consulting \o/ Here we use the 18k ou 19.2k solders for soldering, and the pieces are also in 18k or 19.2k. Could you send some good recipes for solders that dont lower the carat? Or any other tip... :D We use propane (LPG, GPL, LP Gas, i dont know how you call it in the US...) and oxygen torch ... i dont know if it matters... Thanks a lot!
+MARK “Mark 1” ONE I'm a retired machinist and I recover gold/silver/plat/palladium from electronics. Not sure what you mean by "harden". Pure gold and silver are generally soft like copper & brass. It is always best when soldering to use the same Carat wt solder. Hard Vs soft solder has to deal with the metallurgy and melting temps. I've managed to solder 23k w/ 10k solder successfully. I can't call my recovered prec metals 99.999 w/o an assay. so I call it 23k But if you want to make pure gold or silver harder you would create an alloy by smelting with other metals like Nickle and copper. I'm a few grams shy of 1/2 troy Oz of 23k and plan on casting a snake head for my cane.
I know what you mean by that flash of silver running across...i had full succsess with filling a small hole on a ring face with running silver...working with pure fine nine silver and its my first 2 ounces...i never worked with any metals except pcb's...silversmith is what i call myself now...lol...the flash of pure silver across the surface of a pure silver ring, its magic...but i have another cast to work on... Check out my instagram bae instagram.com/codename.ide you along side other youtube smith pros have elevated my knowledge on smithing...i owe you a lifetime of gratitude! Bless you

Such a wonderful teacher! Just love your humor and generosity! You make me believe that I can do this without setting myself or my house on fire!
Be as one with your solder. Understand its relationship with the elements you mention in this video. Very good video Nancy. Onto the next pt 2.

So glad to have you back at it, Nancy.
I LOVE your videos. I learn a lot, and I laugh even more. Thank you for sharing your sense of humor and your knowledge.
Thank you for sharing your clear, concise knowledge on solder... what felt like an unknown area I am now more confident to venture into it!
Thank you so much for taking your time and sharing your knowledge with us. I really appreciate learning from you.

Nancy I never knew how solder actually worked before , thank you for sharing on the molecular level ☺ !
pleasure watching your tutorial. very informative & humorous. thanks!
I always start with hard cider! Gotta calm those nerves for intricate soldering...

Have you used solder wicking braid to remove solder?
I have just discovered Eutectic solder, which is also used pretty much for soldering with enamel :)

My problems is getting bezel to sit flat on back plate. Any suggestions.?
Beginner here. What do you suggest I start with to practice for making jewelry. Like what kind of solder? Thank you!
"You usually start with hard solder... not hard cider."
haha love her!

How do you harden 24k Gold or .999 Silver? I've asked the question on Rio Grande Forum, but nobody has answered my question..

There are no molecules in silver or solder
Not hard cider... hee hee. ;)
I can’t follow your speech bloopers are distracting.
This is so boring
