  • For the first episode of MINDGAMES: The Podcast, we have a very special guest in miss Julia Barretto; a rising star in the Philippine entertainment industry. This episode will cover a side of the young actress that rarely comes to light: her own experiences with anxiety and mental well-being.
MINDGAMES is currently an online based campaign initiated by myself, in partnership with #MentalHealthPH, that focuses on utilizing various forms of art and media to promote awareness and inclusivity among Filipino Youth on Mental Illness. Through our content such as music, podcasts, and Sound Bites, we hope to promote mental wellness in pursuit of a sound mind.

This video is an eye-opener to everyone that anxiety and depression exists. It's never a 'pang-mayaman' condition. Your sister might be having it or your daughter. Let's educate ourselves more about Mental Healh.
Julia speaking through her own experience is a breath of fresh air. Seeing her on TV clenching her hands, having tremors, already gave me the idea that she might be having anxieties. It's saddening to know that she's been having it for 5 years but good thing she has a very excellent support system in her family and she continues to educate herself on this.
PS: Claudia was right. I hope you take time to write your experiences on paper. I WILL BE OVERJOYED TO BUY YOUR BOOK IN THE FUTURE.
All of you guys-- Dani, Julia, Claudia, Leon and Erich are so eloquent and well-spoken. Certainly, your mom raised you all well.

@@mevu3986 because shes a Barretto.people always compare her with claudine, Gretchen or even to her mom. Lahat ng galaw at sasabihin nya binabantayan ng mga tao para may masabi lng sa kanya or may mapuna lng sa kanya .

    • @mevu3986
      @mevu3986 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Leynie Marquilencia yeah that's why i said it's unfair to her. people always have this perception of her as a "Barretto" which is true because she is a barretto but people somehow associate this family name with something negative. when this family name pops up, a certain thought attached to it also pops up. however, julia is not a mere extension of any thought (just like any other "ordinary" person) whether or not she is a barretto, but people always somehow see her this way.

Seriously, i dont like julia at first. For me shes just having a good face and nothing else. But when i start watching personal videos about her i saw how genuine she is. How she loved her family, how she being a woman, she maybe be 23 but she can stand on her own. She doesn't care about all the bashers at all. And thats the spirit. Now i love her, her simple sense of humor, her fashion, her attitude, her goals, especially her love for her family. ❤

Julia and I work at the same network. May pagkakataong, medyo nasungitan niya ako. At first I kinda feel bad,(being a people-pleaser) but I thought maybe, she was having a bad day. Maybe she's going through something. Hindi ako nagtanim ng galit or inis sa kaniya. I always admire her love for family, her intelligence, her beauty and her confidence.
At the height of the controversy involving Julia, we bumped at each other at a birthday party. She was so simple that night no make-up, laid back outfit---but so beautiful.I asked for a photo. I know there are no words that could make her feel okay. I just hugged her tight. Watching this vlog, made me realize I did the right thing. :)

I’m so thankful for this podcast. The majority of the Filipino community sees people as either sane or insane. Most really don’t have an understanding on mental health.
When I was 12, there was one night that I was crying outside past our house-gates. These two people passed by me, laughed, and called me “baliw”. This is just an example of why mental health awareness needs more focus.
I’ve been a fan of your family for a long time now and, not in a creepy way, have grown to adore each one of you. I’m so happy that you’re all allowing us to see more and more of your lives now (through channels such as your podcast, Julia’s channel, your mom’s new channel, and Dani’s channel).
Also thank you to Julia for finally allowing us to hear about that side of her. I struggle with anxiety myself but never would have imagined Julia struggling with it. This goes to show that you really don’t know what people are going through and emphasizes the need to BE KIND to everyone.
And to you, Claudia: thank you for having the courage to speak up and lead with your voice. Not everyone can.
    Much love ♥️♥️♥️

I, myself suffer from this anxiety attacks and I really can’t control it, but when you have someone who’s there for you, someone you can hug/touch you surely felt secured. Theyre so natural and refined. Not pretentious, not o.a.. No wonder Julia has a lot of bashers, I can see why... because winners are always targeted. And a lot of people suck, they hate when they see high caliber women. Like these two. I dont watch them, Im from L.A., this is the 1st time Ive seen and heard Claudia. I watched the MU, and i just happened to click on some pinoy videos. These ladies are impressive and admirable. Dont be surprised that Julia is the target of bashers. Before, it was very difficult for me to answer that question because I couldn't find words to describe what I feel and upon listening at Julia I knew I found the perfect words to describe how I really feel. This vlog made me feel very relieved because one thing I learned from having a depression is that knowing someone feels the same way I do make me feel that I am not alone and I am not different and that someone could relate with me.

I really love this side of Marjorie's children. They were raised to be strong and fight for themselves to be a much better versions of themselves from their mistakes.
Last week I watched Marjorie's cooking vlog and appreciate their love for their family.

I fully understand where Julia’s place is. They always say that when someone is suffering from anxiety is ‘oh, she’s always in her head” even I know that’s not exactly what it is! It’s easy for anyone even coaches or thought leaders to be always saying our head is in the clouds

Smart and pretty girls... julia always remember that we have free will and no one could take it away from us.. that's true that when we're still young we're afraid to speak or do something which make us feel that could hurt or offend others because we're afraid to be judge on how we deliver it publicly but growing up as a woman there are lots of things that taught us different lessons in life and it make us realize that we are free to express our thoughts and feelings because we have differents views in life and it depends on people on how they will understand and analyze.. i really enjoyed listening to both you.. your mom raised you strong and united with each other so happy for you..

I looove these kinds of videos. Totoo lang at walang echos.
Love Julia's answer on Claudia's question as to why there's more expectations on celebrities because I see it the same way. People are sometimes scared or refuse to pick on themselves (intentionally ha) so they pick on someone else. And also maybe one of the reasons why celebrities get such extreme attention when they make mistakes is because they also get extreme attention when they do something nice/good/pretty. I just think when you get the extremely positive side of something, you get the extreme opposite of that thing as well. Kung sikat ka at maraming nagmamahal sayo, marami rin magpipick kapag nagkamali ka. Lastly, another factor that I can think of is that people see celebrities as not "ordinary people" kaya mataas ang standards because there's that mentality that "you're not supposed to be just like us". So when you make mistakes, the reaction is harsher compared to when an "ordinary person" makes mistake.
Edit: Addition -- Journaling/Recording my thoughts helps. I swear by journaling or just writing what's on my mind. Some people call it "Brain Dump" or "Stream of Consciousness", I call my notebook "Morning Pages".
Just my opinions. :) Thanks for this Claudia!

So grateful for videos like this that promote awareness and a close insight into mental health. Fortunately, it is a topic that is no longer as taboo as it used to be. We highlight the importance of eating right, exercising, but how often do we spend time looking after the one thing that requires us to fully function in the way we do? Julia's experience resonated with me since I tackle those mountains as well. And some days, they're harder to climb than others. You feel deflated, isolated, frustrated, and I end up beating myself up as a result. I guess for Julia, it's made harder because everything she does is being judged by millions which makes it a lot scarier. I continue to work on steps and strategies that gradually pull me out of my panic attacks, but I'm not rushing myself as I'm learning more about who I am along the run. No one should settle with the thought that anxiety is a big part of who they are because that's not true. It doesn't define you, nor is something that should take up a huge chunk of your life. It's just a small part of you that doesn't have to be so loud.
Thank you, Claudia and Julia :)

I don’t believe in Mental Disorder before because it never runs in our family. Then one time, right after i graduated from college, took a job. One night, i felt pain in my heart, its like someone’s punching my heart and you can’t breathe properly. I dont really know whats happening, and continued for days and days and weeks. I just felt out of the blue for no reason, it sucks cos you dont know what to do. Then to cut the story short, i realized that i was having mental disorder right after i was healed. This disorder isn’t easy and PRAY! Listen to yourself. Talk to someone who will lift and understand you.

"Sharing a little bit of yourself does not make you scared because it will help a lot of people." This is just too timely. It is really true that tough exterior isn't the same as inside. Feelings are really valid because you are a person. It is completely normal. This is such a beautiful video that explains anxiety and insecurities in such a way that everyone will be aware of.

I’ve been through what Julia is talking about and worse I have been brought to the ER because of that. It was not even a one time thing. It really is ugly at first especially when you don’t know what is going on with you, if you’re having a heart attack? A seizure? Its just you can’t breathe and if you try to control the situation it would just make everything worse totally based on my experience and the reason why I was brought to the hospital not just once but thrice. Just glad that these girls are educating everyone and using their platform well. 👍🏻
