Just started my journey into Hams. I have to say it is far more complicated than an outsider might assume! I can see this becoming a passion as well as a necessity! Awesome channel Josh. I have learned alot already from you and people in the comment section. Thank you!

Couldnt handle it any longer. Ordered this radio this evening. This thing is perfect for what I do with radio. I wish is was a couple hundred dollars less, but that isnt going to change my year, so I didnt want to wait. Ive got the 991, but operate it using an SDRPlay via OmniRig. This thing just simplifies that process, and no need for the mfj sdr switch.
Now the question is whether I keep the 991 or not

If the 10 performance is anywhere near the 101, this will be worth the price over a 7300 imho. The 7300 is a good radio - I owned one for a year or two. The 101 is a totally different league from rx audio to operating flexibility (should be for the $$$). We'll see where the 10 lands, but the hybrid design is a winner in my book. And I'm not a Yaesu fanboy - I don't care for the fonts, and the menus on the other radios (owned the 991a, 891, 400 - sold them all) are a pita. The 101 is much better wrt the menus. But it is the performance of the radio and the filters and flexibility that make it so enjoyable to operate. As always, ymmv.

    In these Yaesu radios the 2 com ports have different uses;
The Enhanced Port can be used for CAT commands.
The other standard port, can be used to trigger the PTT via RTS.
When the secondary port is used to trigger the PTT, the radio will use the USB audio for its TXaudio automatically when in SSB.
When the PTT is done via CAT comnand. however, you must go iNto the RADIO MENU and set SSB TX Audio to use the USB instead of the front mic. Otherwise it will just use the microphone audio when the FT8 software tries to send.

Nice to see in action this rig, thanks for real time chat interaction. I think the option menu it's a bit confused to change parameters in qso actions. Also 3d waterfall not attractive for me. I don't understand why at this price don't include a two antennas connector. But beautiful transceiver.

I have owned the 7300 and I now have the FT-710. I loved both radios. I still prefer the Icom for digital modes compared to the Yaesu. The icom programming is just more fluid and trouble free. Every Yaesu I have ever owned has gliches in programming. That are not major flaws though. I have always believed that Icom is better on the software side and Yaesu is better on the hardware side. The newer Yaesu's are definitely better at pulling in the weak signal and the noise floor is quieter on my Yaesu compared to the Icom. I wish I could just have both.

So frustrating. When he was trying to decode CW, JUST as someone finally suggest he hit ZIN (zero beat cw - the usual CW SPOT feature), he turns away from the screen. By the time he looks back, it's off the screen. Then when someone FINALLY suggested it again, JUST as it shows up, he turns away again ! Amazing !

I'm a newbie but I love the Hybrid Concept for this radio. What I'm hoping for is another version of this radio that will replace the 991a. I only have QRP and Low Power radios(G-90) so I'm saving up my coins for my first 100 watt radio. After that I won't be buying another radio for quite a when so.i want to get the best that I can afford. Thank you for this video, that's actually of a live radio and not that picture.👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿

Its tough to beat the 991 then. I have the 991 and have ordered this ftdx10, but the 991 is already proven, probably the most versatile rig on the market, and for a reasonably good price. I think this 10 is a bit overpriced, but I bought it anyway. Why? Because it fits what I use radio for. I run my 991 through an SDRPlay, and dont use the 991 for 2m 70cm....so the additional screen features, easier notch and contour functions, and allows me to use mouse and monitor directly with the 10. No more need for mfj sdr switch to keep from frying my sdr. For me its more simple.
991 is a fantastic radio though, especially for someone new to the hobby and likely isnt sure what aspect of the hobby will draw your attention in months to come.

Stopped by to say hi Josh. You did a fine job on this. Don’t sweat the “CW decoder“ function. No one really makes a solid CW decoder. The technology just isn’t there yet. It will be though… And probably sooner rather than later instead of decoding, the radio may just speak the words to you LOL

Kind of doesn't bode well for the future of the hobby either. There's going to be a lot fewer old retired hams who can afford high end rigs that cost thousands of dollars in the future. Not a bad radio, but the menu system is trash compared to Icom.

If you made shorter videos I would be more likely to watch them.

I do make shorter videos. One a week to be specific.

If you didn't have the attention span of a gnat you would enjoy the longer videos.

Look on youtube, there is a video that shows some features that don't work. Yaesu is famous for releasing radios that are not debugged and working properly. You would think they would learn from their mistakes, but no, they don't, not your typical Japanese.

Thanks for posting, I am not too impressed with the radio. Have always liked Yaesu radios, but the introduction of the 991 and how they treated their customers was sad. I almost bought a 991, glad I bought the IC7300. Have had several friends that had to send the 991 back to repair several times, one just gave up after 2nd try to get it fixed. I hope they don't come out with FTdx-10a in 6 months.

Is it bigger than the 991a?
