Its funny Steve. After all of these years of spinning Exile more than any other Stones album. I never really heard any of the live stuff on the 1972 Tour. A tour that I would have loved to have seen. Imagine. Only $6.00 to see them at the Seattle Coliseum. Those were the days. What can I say that hasn't already been said. Genius work once again. The info that you deliver is sublime. Thank you Steve for another smashing Stones post~

Epic documentary …just when I thought there was nothing new to say you come out with a deep dive into the shows… Sweet Black Angel was played only that one time and the version sounds so grunge…fitting for Seattle.

    Another masterpiece video Steve!!
My little brush with fame related here. A couple years or so ago, on Kickstarter, Ethan Russel had a sale of his best book of photos, Stones AND all others..album covers, etc.
Well, he had a couple higher priced rewards and one was the book AND a personal printed, signed and numbered litho of one of his photos.
I got the "Patience Please" with Keith. It is so choice....and along the line, I got to email back and forth personally with Ethan, it was thrilling.
Anyway, that's always been one of my fav. Stones images, and seeing you show it here brought it to mind.
That you and have a GREAT day....on to part 4!!

    Steve,
You are far too generous to us, even if we do donate. These productions are incredible with the information, and most importantly your time and effort. Your knowledge of musical techniques, instruments, equipment, song construction, etc shows how adept you are in this world.
You always find a new way to open your creations up, just like Spielberg does, grabbing us by the collar and holding our attention from the first second.
Of all the Stones tours I would have loved seeing, nothing comes close to this STP tour in 1972, and I can’t thank you enough for bringing it to those of us who couldn’t be part of the audience for whatever reason. This is when they were at their pinnacle, and mythical powers.
Vancouver for whatever reason seems to like to riot. They also had huge riots after Game 7 Stanley Cup loses in 1994 (to the Rangers) and 2011 (to the Bruins), which both dwarfed the 1972 one. So much for namaste in Lotusland.
It’s ironic that Mick got a reprieve into Canada for this tour (as they hit Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal), but there wasn’t one for Keith after his bust in Toronto a few yrs later. Of course, the amount and type of narcotics were quite different too.
That footage of them entering Canada at the BC-Washington border was quite a find! Mick certainly has always been good at giving non answers, dodging direct ones, and skating around things.
How they did so many daily shows, and sometimes two in one day, is hard to fathom. I don’t recall other bands doing this with full length shows (90 mins plus). Even in 1989 they had a packed schedule, with few days off, and shows were close to two and a half hrs. They seemed to get more professional on this tour with timeliness for the most part, unlike the 1969 fiasco with late shows.
It sounds like the rivalry and disputes between Mick and Keith may have gotten their start on this tour, if they were at odds over the production, mixing, etc during the shows. Mind you, Mick and Keith hiding a Jack Daniels bottle in various spots on stage is a hoot.
I’ve always been in awe of their opening acts and how many are now in the Hall of Fame. Talent knows talent.
Our tastes are different with what opening was best with Gimme Shelter…I prefer the sound from Philly and the 2nd Seattle show over the one that you do, from Ft Worth and the horns.

My eyes popped and I got very envious when I saw that 8 (or more) CD package of shows, and audio from Ladies and Gentlemen, and CS Blues, on the screen. What a find!
While it would be nice to have critics praise everyone and be satisfied by what they see, it isn’t the job of a band to please those who are likely failed musicians, entertainers, etc. Fans should be the target of a band, and be their extended family. It’s important to keep the fans happy and if they go away from a show with a smile on their face, then the band succeeded.
Shirley bit a French customs officer…well. That’s not something I would ever have expected

And then after 93 mins, it was fade (as blue turns) to grey, with Part 4 still to come. Hot diggity dog!

Steve - how wonderful!! The Stones always upping their game - trying new things through this tour! Love it to bits! That part where Bill's bass really makes All Down The Line superb with Mick's raunchy blues slide and Keith's rhythm - Charlie's drumming stayed basic - the band shines!!! The Grateful Dead inextricably tied with The Rolling Stones when the Winterland closed with their banners hanging. Killer video dude!!

Vancouver is a really chill laid back place but when they flip out they really flip out if they can’t always get what they want.
It’s west coast you know but like LA there is also an edge to it.
Like California it can go nuts when it suddenly isn’t laid back.
It’s a two sided coin. Good to remember it is still the Wild West.
Vancouver has had problems with riots ever since.
Maybe all the energy is under the surface. Surf culture is surface.
Under that are tidal waves and earthquakes and tsunamis.
When they have a reason to flip they really flip. Edmonton and Calgary are kind of like that too but it is a bit more predictable than Vancouver. I think there were riots in Vancouver not too long ago. I’d not be surprised if sleepless in Seattle is kind of the same. I’ve been to both and they are elegant and sophisticated but there is pent up energy built up there. Both places. Maybe kind of an US and THEM mentality out there.
But they are both great as long as things don’t go nuts.
I think 1972 may have been the first time for the STONES to play live there. That would do it!!!

Steve, yo! Sorry Steve, but I’m jumping in late here again. As always, I had to wait for my wife to help me with the email part of doing this with the donations and everything. I’m just terrible with using email so, that’s why I’m jumping in late. But, anyway Again, phenomenal, fantastic work as always! I’ll keep this comment short because I’m gonna want to make another comment after I watch part four. I think in one of my earlier comments so I mentioned to you that I saw the stones 2021 tour in the hard rock, Miami Fort Lauderdale area. The tour right after Charlie passed. So, I love the way you brought to the surface how concerts were conducted back then and to see the way concerts are conducted these days. For instance, not only going to the 2021 concert, but watching the brand new concerts. The hackney diamonds concerts. So, so different between now and back then. The way you present things it shows how different things were back then with the concerts sleeping out on sidewalks getting tickets through ticket Tron. and so forth. So, you really showed the difference you always did in your past work. You always showed a contrast among 1000 other important things. Like I always told you, you are the king of this type of thing with the documents. Nobody even comes close, you’re the best! I also really love the way you somehow encapsulated Bill‘s base playing I mean it was really, really distinctive. And so important to our whole fan base and listeners young and old and, everybody. Also, I forgot about the Wolfman Jack thing. Just, you know, so many things that one forgets over a long period of time you always capture everything part three, this one was also a real gem like all of your documentaries. Like I said, I’m going to keep this one short, I enjoyed it immensely. I can’t wait to see part four. I’ll be waiting. OK then, flipside, keep it rocking! Don’t have to see them live to feel it. Tokyo dome in 2014 with absolute nose bleed seats was enough for to remember them for the rest of my life even if I don’t ever see them again. There was something really timeless and iconic and classic about that show. The sound was dead on back there!!!! They were really on!!!
On fire !!! They were really hot and on fire!! It wasn’t just a slogan! 10 years later and I honestly think they have 12 more tours in them even people will never believe me but I think they will be going on over 100 years of age.

Getting ready to head back to Toronto soon.
Year 2 will start soon. Thinking of driving the black 98 Jag XJR V8 supercharged all the way there! To put this drive into perspective it’s like Denver to Boston. Be great to have a car at University of Toronto for year 2.
As you may remember year 1 2022/2023 was a still birth because of problems with accommodations in downtown Toronto.
Year 2 ( Year 1 of studies ) was highly successful.
Year 3 now ( year 2 of studies ) looking forward to and if I have the Jag with me I might be able to see New England and some of the eastern US.
Hoping to see the Stones live again some time soon. This video doc is great and getting better every time I hear you! I’m liking how you belt it out!

      It is actually very inspirational.
Like the Stones in 1972 they were just getting better and better as the tour went on.
This makes me really think that when the STONES are really gone for good something has to GO ON!
Your videos will and we have to get lots of video concerts on huge video screens and people still gather as if it was a live STONES SHOW.
One way or another it won’t die.
      That’s the truth.

I always end up purchasing my cigarettes next to that fucking place IN Toronto the stones played live in 1977. The EL MONICO LOVE THE PALM TREES I’m going back there with a can of bear spray I’ll tell ya.
      I’m not joking.
The only thing not seedy or dangerous feeling on that street is that old club. It is really well kept.
How Toronto feels dangerous is different from how out west feels dangerous.
Out west is either dangerous or it is good. In Toronto out east it always seems a mixed bag.
You walk just a few blocks and it’s a different story.
I was looking for this thread.... on the Jag. It was in my old shop I was still using for 1 year 5 months and 2 days. In the end I got a call from the police They got pulled over for test driving it incorrectly. They didn’t have their shop plate on as was legally required. They were missing their shop documentation.
I went in there and I said I’ll test drive the car myself and I took my car out and I never went back.
They tried to blame me and it was just BS
In the end they just handed over my keys and they didn’t even send me a bill.
I got the Mercedes Benz 5 speed transmission on this Jag XJR sorted out myself by the very next day and I haven’t looked back.
BEFORE all this happened my Nokian winter tires were stolen or went missing while at their shop that actually went bankrupt and changed names while my car was in there with them.
I’m almost at 3 months having it back and I’m keeping the oil very clean and just right. I’m on my 3rd oil change with this new replacement 4.0 L V8
The Eaton M 112 supercharger is working great!
This summer I took it damn near to Idaho and back 14 hour drive one way :)

I like how this one ends
When winterland closed for good in 1978 it was still hanging the dead scull and roses and the tounge.
Yeah they were there man !
I can’t help but think how that might have influenced G n R from 1972 to 1978 come the mid 80s Thinking of the dead scull and roses especially and how they kept it up at winterland until it closed for good.
When SLASH was asked what his favourite band was I was happy and also just a bit surprised when he said THE STONES!!
Right on SLASH you tell them !!!!
    Big influence on slash
Goats head soup was one of his very very early favorites and he used to listen to it for hours and hours when he was just getting into music and the guitar ( and unfortunately smack too )
Come 89 in LA and they were lucky enough to be the opening band for the STONES.
But so many have fallen while the stones kept going. All of them really by now
And they still seem fresh and young to me! :)

Things are going smoothly. The car is in the shop. It will be finished as soon as tomorrow.
They have a sure remedy for the power steering leak and we got to the two metal pipes rubbing together it in time. I got the money together to pay them for tomorrow. It’s a long job for a little leak - they need to take the whole power steering assembly off to get at the pipe with the hole. Send the pipe to a welding shop in town. Put it all back together. One thing I learnt in Japan is be happy to pay and enjoy paying. Paying is a pleasure. Be happy you can. That’s totally a Japanese point of view. I love paying bills. Getting things squared up. Making things right as they can be. Even on a limited budget. It gives me great pleasure. At the end of the day if I can make it all work out.
I’m going to teach my son how to drive in this car.
A long time ago I seen the film RAIN MAN with Tom Cruse 1988
So much of that was about his Dad’s car. 1949 Buick and their trip across America in it. Well far Midwest to LA. Dad’s car! yeah !
For me GnR dropped the torch in exactly 1994 ( when a big new album was going to come out and it didn’t ) and I still liked Slash but it was a blessing in disguise because that year 1994 I heard so much about the STONES and their new song was out LOVE IS STRONG and then they were coming and we went to see them in Edmonton live!
I felt the BUZZZZ for days after the show. So thank you GnR for dropping the torch.
When tickets went on sale in Edmonton there was a mad dash downtown and the city was actually shut down for most of the business weekday and phone lines were jammed. Traffic has to stop so many people were running out of office buildings into the streets downtown.
That show was soo popular the STONES actually put on a second show that had not been scheduled. I think tickets all sold out for the first show in less than an hour.
You don’t forget something like that! The VIBE was just amazing.
The FM rock radio station played PAINT IT BLACK endlessly leading up to the big show for months
It was their first time to play in Edmonton.
      That was October of 94
Mick even said so to the live crowd.
There are actually these little places - a city of about a million people - where STOnes popularity is just through the roof and they feel more wanting and deprived and desperate for it.
      It is really breathtaking!!!!
They had yet to get a real taste of it before.
Everything was swaying by the end of the show
Just f-king over the top !!!!
I ran down right to the stage during jumpin Jack flash and then they were bowing off already. It was over
But they had to put on another show way later on - just for Edmonton.
I think it was just because tickets sold out so fast and the first show was so good.
IT WAS 1994 ROLLING STONES back by popular demand !!!!

Tonight I’m having something new. There was vodka in the house and I seldom drink vodka but I decided to get some orange juice to make a screwdriver.
I’ll tell you two and I’m done.
The gas station where I gassed up the old Jag didn’t have big bottles of orange juice just small so I seen orange crush and I’ve not had orange crush in what has to be years and years. And well Keith used to drink vodka with orange crush and orange juice.
He had a name for it but I’ll call it a Keith Richards screwdriver!
I’m having one now my first time and I measured exactly a double.
But that said I’ll say again two of these and I’m out. I’ve learnt my lesson with vodka a long time ago. Two doubles and I stop.
Scotch and Jack Daniels and wine are a different thing especially if I need to fly.
I have a joke. I’ve discovered that scotch is actually good for something after all.
      AIR TRAVEL.
      You know these aren’t bad.
Orange crush and orange juice and vodka about equal amounts of each.
Interesting that Keith has given up smoking now and he has all but quit booze. Hard drugs are quite a long time ago by now.
      1978-1979 and around 2005-2006. Smoking I think 2018 or 2021 I can’t remember now.
He’s seeing what a straight life is like. I think he’s always been a pretty straight guy. Even with all of the what not. He was also careful and that means a lot.
I think he’s always pretty much had his priorities pretty straight.
As for the camper trucks I think that I read in either OLD GODS ALMOST DEAD or in ACCORDING TO THE ROLLING STONES IN THESE BOOKS one of these that when they are on the Southern US portion of the tour the main members of the band decided to rent station wagons or something. And get away from it all. Take it on the road and go from town to town and get away from the big traveling circus. Not sure how much of that is the honest to gosh truth. Some how I think of them as Mercedes Benz station wagons or big touring four door cars or something. If two cars that would be six members at most. Or maybe it was three and that would be 9 members at most. A tour within a tour.
I can see the core members and some of their important close people all going ahead with something like this criss crossing the south.
      It’s really ROCK AND ROLL
      old school boogie woogie style
I can see them totally digging it.
