This song is a old blues song that dates back as least to the early 20th century. The "House of the Rising Sun" was brothel/gambling hall and the original versions was from the perspective of a young woman.
"There is a house in New Orleans they call the Rising Sun
It’s been the ruin of many a poor girl and me, O God, for one"

This song is older than I am. It was released in 1964. This was an old southern blues song, taken by the Animals and made into a rock song. A lot of British bands took old blues songs like this. Led Zeppelin 1 was all southern blues before it was rock.. The Rolling Stones, and the list goes on and on. The House of the Rising Sun was a gambling house in New Orleans. Great song no the less..

This was my favorite song as a kid. The first song I learned how to play on guitar. It took me 4 or 5mo to learn it. I didn't want to learn anything else.

One late night I was walking out of the factory where I work and a coworker was in the parking lot. He pulled out a guitar and began playing this song. It was after 3am and the night was cool and quiet, and the song drifted through the stillness perfectly with each creepy note.
A younger guy goes, "What is this?"
I said, "House of the Rising Sun, my dude, and if you haven't heard it, you've been missing out."

This song reminded of an acquaintance who sang this perfectly at a Christmas party long ago. He has long since passed but I remember each time I hear this song.

The idea of the rising sun came from the fact that a red lamp was hung outside the door and it was in the "red light district." This was an area where brothels were set up.

Hi guys! The Animals were a British group from the '60's. This is a remake of an old 19th century blues/folk song from the southern US. It's the first song I learned to play on guitar. I think the chord progression was Am, C, D, F, Am, E and back to Am, then repeat. I still love this song.

Chas Chandler is the bass player who discovered Jimi Hendrix and was his manager. Jimi and Chas had a falling out after Jimi's first two albums. Chas would always talk about this song costing 10 Pounds to record in one take. Jimi wanted more and more time in the studio to get the sound he wanted. Jimi's third and last album took months to record "Electric Ladyland". Jimi loved to record and it is why while he only released three albums in his lifetime many new songs have been released since his death in 1970. Chas passed away of a heart condition in 1996.

You should check out the Righteous Brothers and one of the following, "Unchained Melody", or "You've Lost that Loving Feeling". Probably start with the last one as a duet to hear both their voices.

Older songs tended to tell a story a lot of times. They draw you in. Newer songs don’t tend to anymore. How many songs do you know where you have no idea what they are even singing about?

Eric Byrd and the Animals got their name the animals because of their heavy partying. One of the hotels they stayed at was vandalized heavily because of the partying and theatrics they were doing. They were forced to leave the hotel in the hotel matriarch said these guys are nothing but a bunch of animals.... so this is how they came up the animals

Thanks for posting this... It's probably been a 1/2 a year; since I've heard it... I'm pretty sure that I have it, on one of my "playlists"; I've just not been able to access much data, lately!

Btw, they're British. So his father was clearly not from New Orleans. They stole this song from a black musician. Which was common back then.

"Stole"? So, all covers of songs are "Stole"? Or it is only people of color who are allowed to cover songs written by someone of another race?

@user-ty5di3ku6o this song is so old no one knows who wrote it. Stop trying to make everything about race, also music is for everyone, get over yourself.

@@kyojiUzumaki Don't be a dope. All those British band took southern blues songs and made them rock songs back in that era. If you want to hide from history that's your business, but the OP is correct whether you like it or not... look it up if you don't believe it.
