Battle of Hastings - A Very Modern Desecration

- With all the recent news surrounding the excavation of Richard III in a Leicester social services car park, one is given to wonder what exactly galvanises the interest of academics and the public these days. How about the smouldering controversy over that most famous date in English history, 1066? Could it be that most of what we thought we knew about the Norman landings and subsequent battle is wrong?
Could it be that Harold and William have unfinished business, not with each other this time, but with East Sussex County Council and their road-planning department?
Great videos, ive done them all over the last 2 days, stumbled on them when i was researching the malfosse, i am local so will be visiting all these sites on the weekend. many thanks
I'm the same. Very convincing argument. Especially the 'Unidentified' building which is obviously Norman from the arches and a Church of some types from the layout. It is really big and right next to where the last Saxon stand is proposed to have taken place as William promised. English heritage is lining their pockets at the citizens expense. Some one local should set up an alternative site! Why are no artifacts found? They have plenty from that period.
Hi great vid, I'm glad I stumbled across this I'm local to Hastings and have been researching history, they say you learn something new each day 😏 👍
Fascinated by the possibilities of unearting factual evidence of the battle. It would be terrible if we lost the chance to get things right because of a traffic road. Living in St Leonards, it would be thrilling to see the enthusiasts re-enacting the B of H at the proper site.
I found this area on my Google Earth. I see they built that road since these videos.. sad if they went through history.. very sad indeed. I see clearly the inlet and the coastline from 1066
There's a street view that shows they've completely destroy part of the upper fort.. there's also a new dirt road right through the upper fort.. Disgraceful.. Our history changed there and the UK could care less... I live in the western USA, but my family came from England in the 1600s to America. It's my heritage as well... I'm sickened..
You are not alone bud..
Excellent presentation.
Not a scientific reason but one that as stuck in my mind since being 9 and being taken to see the supposed site of the battle. My old man an ex soldier of rank viewed the field supposed to be the site of the battle and said NO, he then explained to my young mind what he meant by this ''No novice of military tactics would choose such a site to hold back an invasion force, open flanks you see''. With that he turned and took us back to our car. Yes from that day I never thought of the battle taking place on that site.
Was your dad King Harold by any chance?
Open flanks vs an enemy with a powerful cavalry force.
Harold was our last English king and this is very important. Seven years on from this post you can see the powers that be are trying to destroy English culture and history.
Michael Angel So true!
This is such an important and far reaching theory that deserves academic scrutiny and challenge. In order to achieve that I feel that this seriously needs to get to a much larger audience in order to get traction.
Surely this is something that a mainstream TV production company would be interested in? I’m struggling with the fact that the theory you are advocating is, seemingly, met with indifference even from fellow archaeologists and/ or historians unless there are undisclosed counter challenges?
Has anyone contacted an archaeologist or a firm that does this kind of work yet? If the council actually own the land but refuse to allow test pits in the area, it would be very clear to the public they are trying to hide something. If all else fails, contact Time Team to get their take on it. I have been on digs where the local council opposed it, but the residents embraced it....so the work was paid for by private organisations or individuals...and guess what? The evidence was found to deny the local council use of that space due to historic conservation risks. Councils do not like being opposed, because it makes them look and feel ineffective and powerless....
I guess I'm not clear where the road they proposed (or built) actually is. Is it the A2690 ? (Sorry, I'm from the States, I don't know the area...)
OK, so at some point then they did build the road, which is the A2690 Combe Valley Way, but just as indicated in this video, it cuts through to the north of the Norman Upper Fort. So, it shouldn't be an issue to archaeology still taking place to the south of the road. On Google Maps, it looks like the area is fenced off... hmmm..... exciting! 😀
Hi guys! Ed Wyatt here. I will lay in-front of there digger's if they do. Get the newspaper's down there and get more people to hear about this tragedy! Anything I can do!
WELL LOOKS LIKE THEY RIPPED THE WHOLE SITE UP , WELL DONE CONTRACTORS AND COUNCIL.
you said William had extensive network of spies in England, but then said the decision on where to land was a brillian tactical decision. I think he would've made that decision back in France, making it a strategic decision, not tactical.
One might think, the Battle of Hastings would be #1 on the list of any historian / Archeologist in England. Why has this not been shown?
Have you guys tried to contact Her Majesty the Queen on this, I am sure she would do something about this. I am an American but I can trace my family tree back to William and his family. This is very important work you are doing I will pray for your success :) Nicole
The queen is a figurehead ,she has no power whatsoever and does as she is told by the government of the day.
How did they have the time to dig all these ditches ?
So I take it this road has been built now.
So the battlefield is wrong too?? Damn it! I’ve been going around telling everyone that I’ve been to the site of the Battle of Hastings! Lol
Is the real site at least nearby to the one they make you pay an arm and a leg for??
Crowhurst, few miles away
Why is there music?
Stopped me.5 minutes in cheap mood music and drum beat as we see a very slow zoom onto an old map.I'm going to see if it means anything when muted.
The music was pretty annoying and completely inappropriate to the presentation! Lol
Yes it would definitely have been improved by losing all of the music.
Find the bodies. They will be close to the battlefield.
Maybe not as easy as we suppose. The site of the 1689, Battle of Killiecrankie in Scotland has been scoured by historians, archaeologists and tv programme makers.
The bitter fighting produced at least 2,000 dead in a relatively small area yet the only “bodies” found, to date, is the skeleton of a horse.
Mass graves must be a feature at Hastings and Killiecrankie but are seemingly elusive.
See the video “The Battle of Hastings - Searching for Bodies.” Why this hasn’t been properly investigated I don’t know, it is all there. If it happens to support this man’s theory, so be it, but where the bodies are buried seems so obvious I don’t understand how a proper investigation hasn’t happened.
@@trauthor9281 I do not understand either. Been years since that video and they couldn’t manage to get a professional team down there. Hopefully they come out with a new video soon as it’s been a year since any update on their channel
Why the hell don't you excavate down in the proposed 'Malfosse' at the side of Wilting Farm..? If this IS the actual site of engagement, then some remains of battle 'debris' (Broken Weaponry / both Human & Animal bone fragments etc) should be evident. Whilst I totally agree that the current National Heritage site at Battle is wrong. I have always believed that the main Saxon shield wall stretched along the higher ridge of Caldbec Hill facing down an East / South Easterly direction. The Norman Army having formed down on the Lower slopes & fields to the North east of Battle High St. Anyhow, It seems you may have the actual Landing Beachhead camp located at Crowhurst (hence the Abbey ruins & fortified embankments) and this without doubt must be preserved at all costs.
Should be easy to raise enough money to pay some independent archaeologists to survey and excavate the site to prove your theory.
Funny to check that no matter where you go, "our thing is the most important thing in the world".
There have been other battles at least as important as Hastings, madam.
Let's say Poitiers in 732 or in the case of Spain, simply because I'm Spanish, take the battle of Guadalete (711) (a kind of Hastings but worse so 8 centuries of Muslim domination came) or Navas de Tolosa (1212)
In any case, I'm fascinated by the battle of Hastings and the findings by Austen. We should always keep a close eye on official history. 14:31
We CAN PROVE IT!
As Britons, you need to take a lesson from the Canadian First Nations (we used to call them ‘Indians’ but that isn’t Politically Correct anymore) Anyway, if they want to block developers, all they do is declare a certain piece of land to have certain historic significance and occupy it, and not even the Courts or the Police will dare to oppose them. Well you, as native Britons would be protecting land which has very significant historical significance indeed, and you need to get Public Opinion on your side and stop the Campaign of Insignificance that you’re waging against a megalithic Beaurocracy with little to no attachment to history, facts, or the people they are meant to serve. (System says build road, we build road.) You’re trying to reason with a mindless machine and wasting time and energy. Change your tactics.
God forbid we should save something sacred to the first Americans. I live in a city that has one effigy mound left out of countless. The one that survived is in a cemetery.
And, if a group wants to be referred to as Canadian First Nations who are you to decide what they're called? Besides, Indians come from India.

Ew. A Norman. Just teasing I agree that this is important to everyone.
