@@Mondomeyer kata is shorthand, everything is an abbreviated reminder of lessons which should already have been learned in class. The kata doesn’t contain “trying to talk them down” or “run away if you get the chance” but only the things that you need a kata for. “Get out of the way when they try to hit you” shouldn’t really need a kata.
@ quite! So we either need to change the kata to reflect the modern expectations or we need to change the teaching to reflect the old traditions. In many dojo kata practice doesn’t make any sense at all. Those of us who give it meaning find it useful.
Oss! Thanks for the enlightenment.🥋
Just one version of what’s possible
Thank you. 👏👏
You're very welcome.
The technique makes sense, why isn't the first part in the kata?

@thebunkaiguy Ah, that makes sense. It just doesn't seem to make much sense today when the applications are not often taught, just the kata itself.

@thebunkaiguy Yes. I think gaving today's training reflect old traditions is what I would vote for. How about you?
@@Mondomeyer I hope I'm in that vein, although I enjoy nearly all aspects of Karate.
