Hong Kong tram, also known as Ding Ding car, is the iconic means of transportation in Hong Kong.
History and current situation
• Origin and development: It was first opened to traffic in 1904 and has been in operation for more than 120 years. It was originally a single-layer design, and then a double-layer design was introduced. A canvas tent was added to the upper layer. In 1925, the double-layer fully sealed tram was put into service.
• Operation status: It is still in operation and has been confirmed by the Guinness World Records as the world's "largest double-decker tram fleet in service", with an average daily passenger volume of about 240,000.
Routes and stations
• Main routes: There are 6 routes in total, namely Sheung Wan (Western Market)-Shau Kei Wan, Happy Valley-Shau Kei Wan, Shek Tong Tsui-North Point, Shek Tong Tsui-Causeway Bay, Kennedy Town-Happy Valley, Kennedy Town-Shau Kei Wan.
• Station distribution: mainly on the north shore of Hong Kong Island, such as Central, Wan Chai, North Point and other commercial areas and landmark buildings, the stations are usually in the center of the road.
Vehicle characteristics
• Appearance: The body is often covered with colorful advertisements. It is a double-decker tram, which uses a bell to make a "ding ding" sound to alert passers-by.
• Internal facilities: Most of them are not air-conditioned, rely on natural ventilation, and the windows can be opened.
Riding Guide
• Paying on the bus: Get on the bus from the back door and pay when getting off the bus at the front door. The adult fare is 3 Hong Kong dollars, children (three to twelve years old) 1.5 Hong Kong dollars, and the elderly (sixty-five years old or above) 1.3 Hong Kong dollars.
• Choose a seat: The upper floor has a good view and is suitable for viewing and taking pictures, but it is crowded when busy. The lower floor is convenient for getting on and off.
