You seem like a really devoted musician. I want to pick harp back up again. I played a little bit and fell in love. Joanna is a wonder and so are you. :)
When you ate I saw your eyelashes Saw them shake like wind on grasses In the corn field when she called me Moths surround me, thought they'd drown me And I miss your precious heart And I miss your precious heart Dried rose petal, red brown circles Framed your eyes and stained your knuckles Dried rose petal, red brown circles Framed your eyes and stained your knuckles And all those lonely nights down by the river Brought me bread and water, water in But though I tried so hard my little darling I couldn't keep the night from coming in And all those lonely nights down by the river I was brought my bread and water by the kith and the kin Now in the quiet hour when I am sleepin' I cannot keep the night from comin' in Why've you gone away Gone away again I'll sleep through the rest of my days If you've gone away again I sleep through the rest of my days And I sleep through the rest of my days And I sleep through the rest of my days Why've you gone away, away Seven suns, seven suns Away, away, away, away Can you hear me, will you listen Don't come near me, don't go missing In the lissome light of evening Help me, Cosmia, I'm grieving And all those lonely nights down by the river Brought me bread and water, water in But though I tried so hard my little darling I couldn't keep the night from coming in And all those lonely nights down by the river I was brought my bread and water by the kith and the kin Now in the quiet hour when I am sleepin' I cannot keep the night from comin' in Beneath the porch light we've all been circling Beat our dust hearts, singe our flour wings But in the corner, something is happening Wild Cosmia, what have you seen Water were your limbs, and the fire was her hair And then the moonlight caught your eye And you rose through the air Well, if you've seen true light, then this is my prayer Will you call me when you get there And I miss your precious heart And miss, and miss, and miss And miss, and miss, and miss, and miss, and miss your heart But release your precious heart To its feast, for precious hearts
This is so so very beautiful. Do you read music in order to play these covers? I just purchased my first harp and would like to practice by playing songs like this but there aren’t any videos out there teaching how to play Joanna songs! Do you have any recommendations on where to begin? Thank you for putting beauty into the world!
@mdodenhoff Yeah a lot of her songs can be played on lever harps as there isn't much key changing - anything in 7 flats just play in C major... You would have to tune it into a different key from C major if you wanted to play anything in F major or Bb Major, but that can be done relatively easily :) Tbh, Cosmia is one of the main pieces that you wouldn't be able to play easily because there are so many key changes and accidentals... You also may not have enough range for the base notes...
Everyone says it's difficult... but I play piano too and I don't think harp is much harder than that myself... you'll get blisters but you're probably used to that from guitar =]
@hollaye69 Well being able to read notes is always helpful... but if you're okay playing piano without reading notes then you'd be okay playing harp without reading notes I think.... It probably depends on if your teacher insists really :P Harp isn't that hard, you just need perseverance like with most instruments :P plus it sounds nice even with simple pieces ^_^
Seeing the skill that goes into that makes me realise what an instumentalist Joanna is. To play that piece at all is some accomplishment.
wow this is amazing!
wow, that was beautiful. so fun to sing along with.
oh god, I've been looking for this sheet music for like, forever.

You still here?
When you ate I saw your eyelashes
Saw them shake like wind on grasses
In the corn field when she called me
Moths surround me, thought they'd drown me
And I miss your precious heart
And I miss your precious heart
Dried rose petal, red brown circles
Framed your eyes and stained your knuckles
Dried rose petal, red brown circles
Framed your eyes and stained your knuckles
And all those lonely nights down by the river
Brought me bread and water, water in
But though I tried so hard my little darling
I couldn't keep the night from coming in
And all those lonely nights down by the river
I was brought my bread and water by the kith and the kin
Now in the quiet hour when I am sleepin'
I cannot keep the night from comin' in
Why've you gone away
Gone away again
I'll sleep through the rest of my days
If you've gone away again
I sleep through the rest of my days
And I sleep through the rest of my days
And I sleep through the rest of my days
Why've you gone away, away
Seven suns, seven suns
Away, away, away, away
Can you hear me, will you listen
Don't come near me, don't go missing
In the lissome light of evening
Help me, Cosmia, I'm grieving
And all those lonely nights down by the river
Brought me bread and water, water in
But though I tried so hard my little darling
I couldn't keep the night from coming in
And all those lonely nights down by the river
I was brought my bread and water by the kith and the kin
Now in the quiet hour when I am sleepin'
I cannot keep the night from comin' in
Beneath the porch light we've all been circling
Beat our dust hearts, singe our flour wings
But in the corner, something is happening
Wild Cosmia, what have you seen
Water were your limbs, and the fire was her hair
And then the moonlight caught your eye
And you rose through the air
Well, if you've seen true light, then this is my prayer
Will you call me when you get there
And I miss your precious heart
And miss, and miss, and miss
And miss, and miss, and miss, and miss, and miss your heart
But release your precious heart
To its feast, for precious hearts
This is totally awesome dude. Really nice to hear the harp part in its singularity since in her songs it's sometimes hard to pick that apart.
