As much as i love call of the wild, i always come back to classic. I love the slower paced and realism feel to it.

Just started Classic 2 weeks ago and already have a play time of 24 hours, something I rarely do. It's just a really fun game. It's very grindy, but never feels like it. That's probably because you actually have to take your time, be patient and really observe your environment instead of mindlessly grinding away like most grind based games tend to make you do. And it's completely free now, so that's even better. Without a doubt one of my favorite games ever. Haven't tried cotw yet (need a better pc) but I've heard people say it's more arcadey compared to classic. Don't know how true that is.
yeah, I played COTW for like 2 hours, and those 2 hours, it was very arcadey. Its like Run n Gun. If you want a more realistic feel, Classic is the way to go by a long shot.
@@jaghies4769 that depends on if you run or not. In classic you can only play realistically but cotw gives you the choice. There are people that just run all the time but there are also people that sit in tree stand for 2-3 hours. You can play how you want.

after playing classic for 1600 hours and now call of the wild for 200 hrs and counting i must say that call of the wild is twice the game classic is. better mechanics and graphics etc..

How is it simpler than the classic? Just curious. I been keeping tabs on this game and have not spend real money on classic but everything else seems interesting. I mean I hate when things are dumbed down but depending what it is I can look past that :/.

aspe121 I agree, I've played the beta and now have so far played up to 50 hours of call to the wild, I enjoy it a lot, but I still sometimes play classic because it has more content, but soon I plan to uninstall classic as call to the wild grows and gains more maps and animals.
Simpler is worse. Especially in a simulator.

The Hunter Classic gfx engine gives a great bang for your buck, Im always pleasantly surprised at its performance and the quality you get on the screen. I can't see classic going obsolete any time soon.

i think the key to both games is not to look at them as which is best but look at them as two different games.hoo would you say what gpu and cpu you have ? im sure you posted before having a early i7 and 970 or 980 i think.that would be the reason for lowish fps when recording.maxxed out even at 1080 you should really have a modern i7 and a 1070 gtx or 1080.recording does close to halve your fps.
I like how CotW looks and that the draw distance is further so I could shoot game from a longer distance. But I have to say that, from what I've seen on TH-cam, I prefer everything else from theHunter Classic - even the controversial payment model.

I've only seen some videos of call of the wild and I think it looks great the map is massive (50 square mile) but for a hunting simulator the animal density is way too high and can you turn off the shiny things used for tracking animals ?
I believe you can turn them off in the settings (can't check right now) but you certainly won't see them at night if you don't use the flash light. However if you are expecting a hunting simulator this is far from it.
in my opinion neither the hunter classic and call of the wild are actually hunting simulators. They're far too easy.
to be honest, would a true hunting sim even be fun?
The pay-to-win model of Classic should be reason alone why Call of the Wild is "better"... But in all seriousness, to me Call of the Wild has a lot of potential, but so far it's just too little content (few animals to hunt, few missions, few features, very limited multiplayer mode and etc.). I just hope they'll continue to improve on CotW and for God's sake don't add a monthly fee to play it... I fear it will suffer from the EA disease though - extremely little content in the vanilla game, and then shitloads of DLCs that cost way more than what they actually provide...
nah man I went through the DLC page last night and the new map cost me 5 quid (which is cheap as chips) and I got 6 or 7 free DLCs, the only thing I dont own now is the stupid quadbike thing but who needs a loud vehicle in a game where stealth is the way to go? also who wants to drive when the scenery is that beautiful!
Classic is so good it'll be hard to beat. The greatest appeal to me is the social interaction and community. It seems a lot of this is lost in COTW. I'm hopeful it will be implemented at some point. The realism and visual increase is certainly a bonus.
Man we need more classic hunting games nowadays I always had a soft spot for classic hunting games it brings me joy and I’m only 13
This is just my opinion on what I have seen from Beta and my experience in the classic. I think the new one will be better for solo hunters, and classic for more competitive hunters.

COTW is catching up fast. Now with 5 reserves and 34 species, it won’t be long before COTW has more to offer.
Note: Based on the size of the reserves in COTW compared to Classic, the 5 reserves currently on COTW already surpassed all the reserves combined in Classic.

i only bought the bare essentials like tent, sights, camo gear about 25.00 in on the classic - running on a hp i3 series lappy with a 4.6 graphics output Overclocked to run on high settings with min drag i been so stoked MAN i get to hunt basically for free & get a nice suprise every thursday when the turnaround kicks in...... a true CLASSIC can be immitated but never duplicated guys the classic has years of CLASS!!!!!!

I have friends drooling over cotw footage, but I really feel like anyone not being extremely skeptical towards it is insane. I'm sure within the first year of release, you'll be able to buy multiple 20 dollar dlc packs, new guns, new map, blah blah blah. Looks like they're trying to appeal to a larger audience, which is never a good thing. Already the warning calls along with a few other perks makes this seem more like console Cabelas than theHunter.
123testable You realize that the developers for COTW have already said that they will be working overtime to get DLC too the players of COTW. That will not be free.

Classic is free to play with limitations. You can only hunt 3 animals permanent and 2 that rotate. You can also not host multiplayer games.
Who can answer me there? I wanted to ask a question about this new one. The Hunter will have free singleplayer mode that can play offline.???
I love the hunter classic and COTW looks really good (got in the beta but didnt get to play over that weekend). My one fear is that IF COTW doesn't do great in terms of sales, i hope they are not tempted to start adding in purchasables guns and equipment like within the classic. But time will tell, looking forward to its release.
Matthew Strode, I doubt it since I suspect that was the reason why they created this new version of The Hunter: to get rid of the microtransactions that many gamers were complaining about. If the devs start selling a sleuth of weapons and other items via dlc's, players will noticed that and might hold off. Maybe if they sell a pack full of weapons at a reasonable price and not bleed out the player by selling each weapon individually as a dlc to make a profit, then I can see that happening.

In any case, I don't see this game becoming that popular anyways since it's a very niche game. The gaming community as you know would rather hunt people than animals. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if someone mods this game in order to create a Dayz-like game. ^^
Why use fraps where there are so many amazing recording software out there that give you 0 fps hit. MSI afterburner is one, Nvidias shadowplay if you have NVidia GPU, I think AMD also has one in there as well. If I am not mistaken they pull straight from the buffer so no FPS hit.

But, my dear friend, I think it's time to make a new film about that, since CotW has been released and a couple of new content and a number of DLCs had been released by now in "the Wild hunter". New reseves, vehicle, hunting club and waterfowl hunting, new weapons and so on. Those hunting club surely needs some more information. Good luck hunting!Ps. There is birdshot ammo for shotguns, but that's the only hint for birds thus far.

playing call of the wild is cheaper it's 25-30 for COTW and you get to hunt what ever you want and what ever guns you want once unlocked maybe we might have to pay for dlc in the future so 40-50$ max while for classic you have to pay 28$ for enough ems to buy a weapon pack and then buy member ship which is 30-60 dollars and you have to keep rebuying so let's say a steady 80$ to be able to hunt all animals and all reserves if you feel like only hunting a few deer and hogs is ok and never getting a better weapon then sure it's free but in reality it isn't free it's pay2win
the only reason I never got into hunting games until cotw came out is that shitty payment model, you could end up paying 10x the cost of cotw for almost the same content
does anyone know if you can take photos or screen shot ? what do you get at start of game ?guns & ammo .. calls... gear ... clothing ..is there a range finder or binculars ?
In which of the two games? Both games will give you basic gear, then you need to earn in-game money to get better equipment.

@@thomaslietzau2813 They have a lodge that you can buy as DLC where you can place your kills as full body or head mounts. No gallery, they rely on the Steam function for taking pictures.

Good comparison HooCairs, I am quite sure that theHunter Classic has a future "if" we get a better Game Engine as you said, it's two completely different games, and I fear a little that "graphics" becomes all-important and that "Classic "will become extinct within a few years.
Which I hope NOT happening for "Classic" ......
In Classic you decide what and how the hunt will be operated, I do not feel you get or have the opportunity COTW!
Either way, it should be explored and tested by every hunter right ?`:)
I don't think Classic will disappear. not yet anyway, and when the time comes, it will probably be re-introduced with an upgraded version. they have way too many suckers already committed and over-invested in it. but a lot of unhappy people have walked away from the game, that is why they introduced this model. this is definitely on the right track, but it seems like they are reluctant to make it what it could/should be, and that's a complete game, a complete replacement for Classic. maybe this will totally become that, eventually. maybe they are going to use the DLC's in a similar way to the original game. and once they have soaked as much $$ as they can from the new players, then they will merge the two. I really hope this comes out as a whole game right from the start, with new, fresh stories/hunts that actually add something fresh down the road. it should be like Skyrim. a massive game with everything there from the start. then eventually DLC are released, and they are completely new storylines and worlds, not just simply a fence is opened that lets you into the next field with a new gun and animal. but we'll see, maybe they have done it right. but from what people are suggesting, and what it seems to be looking like, this is playing out to be another cash-grab.
honestly the thing that sold COTW for me was one time purchase. and the render. And the foliage density, it's actually much harder than classic i found.
I am missing trophyshots and information about tuskers etc in the summary Screen. This Needs to be added in my opinion otherwise I stay classic
getting it tonight I just loved the hunter and I've finally made my decision to get the new one I hope I enjoy it the thing that turned me away from the hunter was having to buy everything

As with all these newer games, they are not even using the right hue of GREEN for foliage and trees. The classic had it correct, it was perfect. Now this new one is like way to green, ambient occlusion disaster. They do this because gamers look at this unnatural bright green and say....ooooh look at this awesome graphics.......blah blah, it looks fake and crap. Everyone can thank Crysis for this misconception. THERE IS A HELL OF A LOT MORE BROWNS, GRAYS AND TANS IN NATURE, EVERYTHING IS NOT GREEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For theHunter classic being such an old game, I still find it has some of the most realistic graphics out there. They may not be the most "detailed" graphics, but the lighting and color for the most part is spot on; that's why I find it's graphics more appealing than most newer games.
M Dutchy eh that kinda depends on where you're at and what season it is. Here in West Virginia during the summer, everything is green. All I can see when I go for a walk is green.
use reshade and you can completely customise colour scaling aswell and black/light levels to make it look as realistic as you like
I'm happy to pay $30 for what was available in the Beta content. Any more is a bonus to me.
Look at the price of some high ranked games, $90+.
You can see alot of work has gone into this and I would gladly pay more. However, I have invested so much into "classic" and after playing the Beta in all it's glory (I truely did love it) I will still love the classic game more.
I climbed onto the roof of an outpost building, then jumped off expecting fall damage. Then again, it's Beta.
It would be easy to implement stuff into classic without looking back at the website. Such as, hover over a weapon to see your skill level and other statistics (have an option to turn on/off in the menu so it doesn't get annoying with pop up screens every time you move to a new weapon)
I think the classic will survive better than COTW, and I hope classic does continue on with a better graphics engine in the future. I don't see why an engine would be built without adjustable parameters such as animal draw distance as the main one. Does not make sense that something "so simple" is hard coded.
I will always love classic more than COTW now after playing the Beta. I was very worried that COTW would take over, but pretty sure classic will still receive the same amount of love from everyone as it does now.

I hope that there will be a lot of changes. What I dont like is that in the Beta it was way to easy to kill animals. I really hope they add certain difficulties to thehunter call of the wild (I doubt they will but it would be awesome to have like easy,medium,hard, expert. the easier the more animals you find) I wouldn´t mind to spent like 1 hour and only shoot 1 animal or so. The other thing I didnt like is the woman that talked to you (I´m pretty sure there will be a option to turn the voice of). Another thing I didnt like was that it showed you the direction where the animal is when it called.
Imho there should be many options for players that they can turn off or on if they want. For example in thehunter classic you can turn the tracks of completely (which is more realistic)
I hope they dont f*** the game up I hope they make the game fun to play for many players.

The annual membership is the only thing keeping me from playing Thehunter classic. Also, those limitations seem ridiculous, they could have at least given guests some more animals to hunt :/

hunter classic is the superior, the only thing it needs is good polish up, and new engine flowing rivers, better gun animations, animal behavior, glitchy rocks, just a big update on it all and thats it!! now there going more towards cabelas right now im happy spending money on memberships and so forth
Honestly I wouldn't say cotw is better nor would I say the same for classic. When I play them they feel like two totally different games that have some similarities, Classic is harder to grind play most times but ends up making it worth it after you got that gun you wanted so bad or got that 400+ non typ mule you've been grinding for, for two years. Cotw just hits that tingle of satisfying game play and beautiful maps not saying that classic maps don't good but just they look "outdated" I want to say. I love how cotw made guns ad scope feel so good and fun but to get a lot of the best ones you have buy because they are locked behind DLCs. Classic has a lot more guns and suck to choose from so you decide what weapon you want to use that hunt, unlike cotw where you end up having the same gun weather you wanted to or not until you either bought a weapon pack/DLC or unlock the ones you get in base game. I have over 1000 hours in classic witch is something not a lot of people have in classic. Idk if it's the same for cotw but cotw is a much better and easier game to get into. Now if I didn't play classic before I got cotw i would probably hate classic for how slow and much time it takes to get anything done in it. Cotw has some un realistic looking animals but so does classic but thats just something you can look over. Both games are buggy and don't have the best anti cheat for hackers. Community is pretty nice except for the Offical discord server for classic and cotw. But if anybody wanted a good hunting game that worked right and wasn't slow cotw is the best but if you wanted a more "realistic" huntig experience and something not to arcadey classic is what you want. To me each game isn't comparable and they feel like two different hunting games. But they are both some of the best hunting games you can get. if you want to get cotw I'd say try classic first it's free on steam then try cotw and make up your own opinion. There's really no reason for anybody to shit on both games but you do you.

While both are hunting games they're completely different in their approach. Classic is more catered towards a simulation type of experience while COTW would be my first choice for a fun casual hunting game with missions and a storyline/perks/skilltree.

I still prefer classic tbh. While the graphics are really neat in cotw the controls really bother me. I have it for console as well (ps4) where it is more playable, at least for me. More fun is definitely in classic. Merge both (mission mode from cotw for hunter mate and graphics + simpler game play controls from classic) and it would be amazing!

no the DLC wont be free. that's the whole point of DLC. however, I am suspicious of just how they will handle theirs. their model so far has been to make people pay for everything they can. this game should be huge right from the beginning, covering most if not all the map they show, with a huge variety of weapons and animals. the add-on DLC should be "actual" new content, and not simply animals and areas that they held back from the released game. it should be truly new content and not needed for a few months. I have a feeling though, that they are simply closing the majority of the finished game, making only a portion playable. then the DLC will simply be them opening those "already there" areas, etc. if this is the case, i'm avoiding this shit just like I did the original.
Sadly I had to give up on playing Classic. The micro transactions are just way too expensive in the long run. Let's try Call of the Wild

i agree the classic needs a graphics overhaul for it to survive into the future....id also like to point out that the paying structure needs to change, having to pay for monthly/yearly memberships is ridiculous.....the added DLC should be more then enough revenue for the game to continue. i think its just greed on exspansive worlds part.
I don't see a problem in subscription. You pay lets say 10$ for pizza that u eat in 15-20 minutes in theHunter you pay like 10$ for 3 months of playtime and you spend 10$ more and you have an awesome gun that can kill any animal and you have more fun than before ! you my friend should calculate like this a $ per hour value thats what i do if i buy a game for 30$ and i play 30hours that is good for me if i play more than that its just a profit and a well spend money for good and enjoyable free time ! :) have fun
As a classic player with lifetime upgrades, I actually prefer call of the wild and the direction it's going. I play COTW on console, which is just more comfortable for this type of game.

A trophy shot or trophy room feature makes or breaks the game for me, without any record of our succesful hunts, there is nothing that will keep me playing.

Yes, CotW has much better graphics and really nice animations, but you cant enjoy it the same way you can Classic. In Classic, you have many more Species, Reserves and weapon choices, plus many more ways of gameplay, much more choice of strategy and choices of approach, wich i think make up for every penny spent in the game.
Also, CotW has features that have been requested for Classic for a long time, and i think they would be better in this game.
I think CotW will be just like Primal, they will just forget it after some time.
