EPIC MOTOR - FAST 1997 R&O RELAY CONTROLLED Traction Elevator @ Griggs Hall EF - UMD, Duluth MN

Found on my phone from back in 2021. This is a really interesting and fast R&O traction elevator in Griggs Hall EF at UMD. I used to go to college here and have a few videos. I havent been in several years but may revisit again when I can.
First off, why do they only have a single elevator for 7 floors? The basement is just janitorial and maintenence, but I can tell you from visiting people in Griggs EF, this thing gets BUSY. The one they do have is pretty nice though, kinda. For its age, it runs super well, and the Adam's buttons have surprisingly held up. The levelling does leave a lot to be desired, but the motor does sound pretty cool. My biggest regret is not sending it down after I got out and getting a better video of that. If I go back, I will do just that.
If I found this in a random 7 floor storage building where it wasnt used much, I'd say its quite amazing, sadly, they put it in a busy dorm where you sometimes have to wait 5 minutes. Move-in day was a 15 minute line.
R&O do not exist anymore. In the 1990s they had a contract with UMD, and modded a lot of the old Otises there. UMD doesnt have much in the way of vintage elevators anymore. Most are modded and I am guessing even more have been since I left. Voss-Kovach and Humanities remain the most original to date, and Lake Superior Hall may be all original equipment though I havent been in the MR.
MEI now holds the contract with UMD, and despite their nice installs elsewhere, seem to just offload waste at UMD. Anything they didnt new install they modded poorly in my opinion. All suoer cheap low effort mods.
