I think "Lanka" just means "Island", and from what I remember from my Indian philosophy classes, "Sri" means something like "Resplendence" or "Prosperity".
Sri Lanka would thus mean "Resplendent Island" or "Prosperous Island".
Sri means prestigious or holy or something along those lines
No, island is "diva" in sinhala, the island was usually called "Lakdiva" island of Lanka. And yes, Sri is a sanskrit honorary title meaning resplendant or prosperity, so "Resplendant Lanka" would be the best traduction ^^
But it was indeed a title added after the independance of the island, to commemorate its union ^^

@@appate Bengal has many option. You can spawn in Sikhism, which is strong imo. Sikhism is also a dharmic religion, which helps with most of the monuments in that area. Sikhs also have some interesting government reforms. Since I don't care for the religious monuments I take Sikh most times. You can convert to Hindu and even Buddhism via rebellion, which is useful if you want to take whole india and mostly all monuments, except that one Muslim one. You can stay Muslim if you want to play tall, since you can get +50% tax easily with them. You can also profit from the monuments at the indian ocean (Kilwa to Aceh). To me it mostly depends on the monuments you want to take.

Bengal is indeed great fun. I had a campaign where I took almost 3/4 of China, all of mainland SE Asia and took all of the Tibetan Plateau. Sadly, I was unable to take all of India, due to some early errors on my part by converting to Sikh when I shouldn’t have, but it worked out in the end and I was the #4 world power and my income was so great I could field almost every mercenary company within range on top of my own forces, going far over force limit, and still be making bank.

You know what, Ludi, this is the first province the British occupied in the Indian sub-continent and established their East Indian Company. And the exact reason is its trade potential. One of the most powerful trading nations, even in the present day. Search Bangladesh and West Bengal (Yeah, they permanently divided it into two provinces, Typical British thing).

@@mrpeacecraft Delhi has it's own unique mission tree that allows it to conquer almost all of India super-region (plus Afghanistan) despite the lack of permanent modifiers (if You don't count the grand trunk modifier since Bengal can gain it too)

I feel like unconditionnal surrenders is sometimes a punishment, but sometimes a blessing too, like there's a lot of times where I attack a smallish nation with a big far away ally, and I prefer to wait for the unconditionnal surrender rather than move all my armies to the ally lands (I'm thinking something like Uzbeks or Chagatai when you're playing in Eastern Europe ^^').
I wish Malacca and other major nusantaran archipelago nations can get better mission tree

Bengal is a really fun tag to either play or take land from. When I played Ayutthaya they didn’t even have an ally. When I played them I got the closest to owning all of India as cores. I accidentally made two vassals too big to annex. They also betrayed me as Mughals which was incredibly dumb of them. But they got to stick around a bit because I’m struggling with manpower. No strengthen noble privileges. And I’m kind of afraid to give out increased levies privilege.
