Just started up my first fresh water tank and the cloud sent me into a full panic! Thanks for the facts, I feel much more confident now KNOWING what's going on in my tank.
How long will it take to clear? For example, I set up new tank on 27th July. Water is very very cloudy can barely see the fish, I thought it was the water so I emptied over half and added fresh water and now it's worse than it was. Should I leave it now? And how long will it take to settle/clear? And will it effect my fish? Thank you.

Hi, Kev, I am fascinated by this stuff as well. I got so frustrated yrs ago with my african cichlid tank that i just gave up and put all my stuff away. tank, pump everything. But, I have always missed having my aquaruim. So, I recently brought it back out, cleaned it out and got everything up and running again with no fish yet. I have been watching all your videos and found that i was doing alot of things wrong. Thank you for your videos they have been so helpful. You must have been some kind of teacher in the Marines because you know how to explain things. Thanks again and excuse me while i go check my tank. Soo Lets go!. Johnny!!
Good timing, I was about the do a more massive water change to clear this out. Newish tank 29 gal tank (2 months or so). I have been battling this for a week. No live plants, found some dead fish, changed filter, cleaning substrate, new air stone, filter creates a nice agitation as well. I will hold off the water change for now. The gravel vacuum and maybe some chems to clean out cloud. The good news is the tank testers show everything within range.
I have watched so many useless videos that in no way would help.... soo all I have to say is THANK YOU! I really appreciate you explaining this , now I how to remedy my problem.
This has to be the best explanation ever about clearing up an aquarium. I have a 55 hexagon new setup, topfin canister filter. It was clear (ish) for a couple of days. Now it's cloudy so I'll leave it alone and let the filter work. Thank you very much!!!!
Super helpful. I now understand what's been going on with my new tank. Classic story. Pets at home in the UK misadvised and sold us a tank (19L... very, very small) and suggested fish-in tank cycles were easy. Cloudy water on day 4, with our 3x little Platys gasping at the top of the tank... meanwhile, no Ammonia or Nitrites were found during testing. Those heterotrophic bacteria are stealing the Oxygen. At least we can now help them and attend to the ecosystem properly! A bigger tank is on order, as are some live plants. I'll agitate the surface to keep them going.
How awesome is it that literally last night I typed into TH-cam "Kaveman cloudy water", and then this morning I have an email alerting me of this video?! You're the best! It's like you're going through this with me & I appreciate you & your info SO much! Thanks Kev! ❤️

Thank for sharing the knowledge Kev, cloudy is something your information is not! Always crystal clear and easy digestible advise. As always thanks for your time and effort’s in pushing these uploads out.⭐️
Got my cloud tank clear in 1 week with a few of your suggestions!!...I created DIY filter layers plant holder with dual density filter pad, activated carbon bag, and then bio media 15 in 1 bag and guess what!?!?!? Clear water in less than 24 hours!!...I used a waverider to filter water throught this DIY layered filter plant holder and it worked. Tested ammonia with the seachem alert pad. ALL GOOD! Totally agree to keep using also the prime and stability (or I used API quickstart or FRITZ)... Algae grew which also meant my bacteria is also kicking....TOTALLY WORKS!...Thanks! This was for the 10 gallon tank. Gonna try to set up next my 20 gallon tank with the same planted, fisn in cycle, previous sponges and then PRIME and STABILITY...boom....Hopefully it will be in 1 week again! Yes i added neon tetras and shrimp and nerite and mystey snails at day 4 of 7 week. Fed them to let them provide ammoia and let the bacteria get to work!...Day 8 today water is clear!! Also I could used an ammonia pad to the layers to help with ammonia!

I believe my cloudy bloom was because of my second water change ever. Your explanations are great.. thank you!
Dude! Your video was perfect timing. I kept thinking 🤔 🤔 that it was cloudy because of the aquarium salt and the Melafix. This makes so much sense. I have been using seachem prime recently in my water changes. I thought water changes would change the cloudiness but it never left. Although it's going to be tough to just leave the water there while using aquarium salt and just waiting for the goldfish to heal from ammonia burn. Slowly but surely my knowledge grows thanks to genuine person like you in the aquarium community.

lol So that my Granddaughter could see one of Nature's transformations, I let her put a breeder cup of frog eggs from our pond into my tank. We had a blast watching jelly balls turn into tree frogs! However, now that the little froggies are back to the pond, Grammy has to deal with a horrid bloom situation that seems to have emerged almost a week later. Thanks for the "stay calm", & great advice...glad you popped up. :)
Definitely took a weight off my shoulders, just set up my first big tank (125g) and had never experienced bloom like this. Just gonna wait it out! Thank you!
I panicked anyway!!! However, the fb group helped me to chill out. I was (still am) a newbie who has binged so many videos. I needed this! Thanks again Kev
It's 6:10 a.m., searching for explanations on cloudy water in my new (3 wk young aquarium now experiencing a bacteria bloom) and you had me laughing out loud with your "funny bunnies". Seriously! But thank you for a great vid on how to combat bacterial bloom in my two 5 gallon tanks of Tetras. You always come through, K!

Clear explanation. I got a brand new tank the other day and woke up to cloudy water today and I thought I did something wrong Lolol thank you for this video!!
I just dosed my 75 gal with Paracleanse yesterday due to a parasite issue with my fish. I used the measured amount for 50 gal to account for displacement (decor, etc). Woke up this morning and I have a light bacteria bloom. My tank is established. I’m worried now that the medication could crash my tank. I did not think to add Prime in the meantime while it clears up, so thank you that was a great idea, makes sense. I wish there were more vids on this reason to cause a bacteria bloom. Or at least doesn’t seem readily available after numerous searches.
Just started my new tank, and every helpful tank has came from this dude. Stright to the point, doesn’t take 10mins to explain one thing. Packs all this info into one video.
Thank you thank you thank you…..my first thought was to change the water! Oh no! More nutrient rich tap water! Then I find your video and your first words, to calm down, actually made me calm down lol…..so, I am going to vac the gravel, continue to add Prime (I already was) and keep checking for ammonia….so far, no ammonia last 3 days but definitely a bloom…no panic, but vigilance! Thank you Kave Man

Hey Kave. I left a message on ur other platform. So it's been 3days since my new 75gallon fluval 407 has been in use. Still cloudy. Can't remember if it was AS cloudy last Thursday. But u said to "Do nothing" so I will do as u said. Lol
How long does a bacteria bloom last on new set up approximately ? It’s been about a week so far using stability and prime Ammonia is in safe zone. But I still use prime

I definitely think this is the issue with my office tank. No whatever what I do, this continues. We just set up the tank and only have a few small corys and an about 6 other small wish till we decide what dish to go with. But the water heater kept aquarium temp at about 85 , maybe higher, can’t remember, and maybe I’m over feeding. For the two corys I add two sinking pellets a day. Maybe that’s too much and flakes for the regular fish and maybe this excess food lingers in the tank.
Bro I love your energy, and love your videos you go straight to the point and the way you explain is so much better then other channels. Every time I search for something and see that you got a video about it, I always check your video out first and then don’t even need to watch any other channels keep doing what you do best man👍🏼👍🏼

Thank you! My new tank was all set up yesterday, and BAM I woke up to cloudiness. I had a major panic attack that I did something wrong. I felt so much better when you told "me" not to panic! Love your channel, you are amazing. I always feel like you are talking directly to me in a language I can understand 🥰
lol, Glad to hear your finding the channel helpful! Hopefully your tank has cleared up since this comment!
@@KaveManAquatics Tank is crystal clear and gorgeous because of you and your videos. There is so much mis-information out there, I only follow you now 🙂
The whole rabbit vid had me cryin
😹😹
🤣🤣 when I saw it I knew I found the one! Lol
Stay winning Kev! 🙌
lol So that my Granddaughter could see one of Nature's transformations, I let her put a breeder cup of frog eggs from our pond into my tank.

This video couldn't have come at a better time I literally just had a bacteria bloom from a new tank I set up 3 days ago
Glad I was able to help in time! 😁💪
My pleasure Catharina! Glad you're finding the channel helpful 😁
this is so professional, very informative, i just made a refill in my aquarium then after 2 hrs it became cloudy lol
Thanks! Glad you found it helpful 😁
Best channel for fish keeping I have a few I follow that are awesome but this guys channel is legit af
New tank set up. Added a few fish yesterday. Fed them once last night. Today I woke to a bacterial bloom! Ammonia 0PPM, Nitrites 0PPM. PH 7.4-7.6 I will not panic. Thanks Kaveman.
Stay the path! You got it! Congrats on the new tank setup! 😊💪
@@KaveManAquatics Thanks Bro!!
This is true! I just left my 110 alone for about 4 days and I have undergravel powder heads and a hang on the back sponge filter. Zero carbon btw
Brother, I watch your content all the way from Melbourne, and I just got into this crazy fun hobby a few weeks back. I just cycled my 400ltr tetra tank and I'm telling you. I've watched all your videos to breakdown what I need and what I dont need to do. Love your work and thanks for sharing the knowledge 😊

This guy has the cleanest tanks and beautiful set ups.
Thank you! 😊
Thanks! You helped me start to clear up my Bloom. I cleaned my tank out to find something decomposing in the water.
Glad I could help!
Clear explanation. I got a brand new tank the other day and woke up to cloudy water today and I thought I did something wrong Lolol thank you for this video!!
My pleasure, Glad it helped
I just dosed my 75 gal with Paracleanse yesterday due to a parasite issue with my fish. I used the measured amount for 50 gal to account for displacement (decor, etc). Woke up this morning and I have a light bacteria bloom. My tank is established. I’m worried now that the medication could crash my tank. I did not think to add Prime in the meantime while it clears up, so thank you that was a great idea, makes sense. I wish there were more vids on this reason to cause a bacteria bloom. Or at least doesn’t seem readily available after numerous searches.
Dude you are so clear with the point thanks a bunch. Well deserved sub

Wow, glad you found the video before doing that! 😊 It's my pleasure, Glad I could help!
Thank you Kave Man
Thank You Sweetie! You are AWESOME! ❤

So many videos focus on new tank cloudy water which is almost normal, thanks for going further regarding established tanks. Your videos have been a big help man, thanks!
My pleasure! Thanks for that feedback, glad you found the video helpful 😊💪
Hey Kave. I left a message on ur other platform. So it's been 3days since my new 75gallon fluval 407 has been in use. Still cloudy. Can't remember if it was AS cloudy last Thursday. But u said to "Do nothing" so I will do as u said. Lol
3 days is no where near enough time bro, lol Be patient and stay the course. As your tank cycles it will clear up on its own, I promise 😊
@@KaveManAquatics I appreciate you big bro. I will without a doubt be patient
Well.......... I took ur advice & did NOTHING.....the results were stunning. Fish are loving their new home. Thanks soo much

After watching like 5 of your videos this week I just went ahead and subbed
Appreciate that! 😊💪
Thanks so much for all the info. Total newbie here and love your videos.
My pleasure! Glad you’re enjoying the channel. 😊

Got so much scientifically useful information in just like 5 minutes. This is awesome. There are other channels that provide some useful information but their video time to information ratio is so long.

Great video. Whats your take on using uv light/filter in your aquarium.
UV light can help in reducing algae and making your water clearer, But its my opinion that it not necessary in a fresh water tank. You can get crystal clear water without one. More info in my book - bit.ly/clearH2O
Which brand substrate is good for malavi African cichlid

Great video, I enjoy learning new things through your channel! I currently have bacterial bloom, but I am also dosing Prime and Stability as the tank has just been set up. (I watched your video on fish in cycling). Should I continue with Prime and Stability, or stop and do nothing as this video instructs? Thanks again for sharing your knowledge!
