I have been waiting for The Warning for 20 years. Rock and roll delivered with both precision and genuine passion. It's been a long time. My favorite band.
What impresses me the most is their songwriting. They are masters at coming up with catchy riffs, outstanding dynamics and meaningful lyrics that most people can relate to. Then you add their great voices and showmanship to the mix and their superb energy. They are simply amazing musicians who write and perform amazing songs!
You forgot one of the intangibles. They are authentic. They built this from grass roots out of a love of making music. They took the time to connect with their fans. They still make an effort to connect with fans. They understand the fans are what allow them to do what they love. They appreciate that, and are honest. You can see and feel their joy in performing when you are at the show. All that gives them a loyal fan base. One that actually buys their physical media. A fan base that allows them to grow and explore. Not one album of theirs sounds like any other. Part of that is evolution as they have grown up. But part of that is their desire to learn and try new things. This keeps them sounding fresh.
They are not only good players, they also are great performers. They 'live' the songs. Act and sell them to the crowd. They are really fun to watch. That's another of their qualities. BTW nice shirt, Joe. 👍🏼
been TWA since 2017 and the music reminded me of what i grew up with in the 70's and seeing their desire to play what they want how they want and do their own thing was why i started supporting them. Dany has said that people look at them and wonder what are these kids going to do before they start playing and the attitudes changing when they play. Freeze The Fall are a new/young power trio inspired partly by The Warning. Freeze The Fall are Quinn 17yo guitar/vocals taught herself guitar to The Warning's Queen Of The Murder Scene album at 11yo, Aria 16yo bass/vocals plays a 5 string Dingwall bass and 16yo Jonah on drums. they call him The Destroyer be good to one another and ROCK ON !!
I saw them in a small venue last year and it was great, but I couldn't help but think that their sound, those songs, were made for big arenas. They're that kind of band. So in that sense I get the AC/DC comparison. Now, given their versatility, I'd say they're closer to The Who (hell, they even have a concept album already)
I saw them in Boston, very good mix in the crowd, kids, teens, all the way to us boomers. I’ve been going to shows, in most genres for over 45 years. They were in the top 4-5 of all the shows I’ve seen.
Added to everything you said, their sheer love of music is what does it for me. You get the same commitment to everything they play whether its to 60+ thousand fans at Wacken or 20 people at an acoustic Sofar Sounds gig.
2:12 their songs are short, but I won't call them straightforward. Their lyrics can be interpreted in different ways, and they have a mastery in songwriting, using different song structures and key changes, there's interesting change ups between the first verse and second verse, they use different guitar tunings in different songs, and they found their own voice using different guitar effects (a lot of fuzz and whammy but never 'in your face' so you might not even realize it's there) than what we would normally use for classic rock.
The fact that all three are classically-trained pianists, and play other instruments like the saxophone, gives them a deep musical background to draw from. They also practice very hard. They are true professionals.
It’s a shame that they’re not more popular here in the U.S. but it won’t be long. Their early fan base here seems to be Gen-Xers (like myself), who have been waiting for their sound for years. I think the reason is that for the last 20+ yrs, Hip-Hop & Country have dominated the music scene here, while elsewhere in the world, rock really doesn’t have to compete with those genres. I hate to sound like an “old head” but the younger generations haven’t had great rock band to listen to that wasn’t 20yrs older than them, until now. Their music is fresh but familiar, so it appeals to older fans of a “classic” rock sound. Rock is in great hands! Thank you Mexico!⚡️🤘
Mexico and Latin America are the same. Young people are too much into Pop, Rap ,Reggaeton, regional mexican music. But there's also a big following of Rock music especially in the big Cities. You can see by watching the concert videos in TH-cam of Metallica, ACDC, Muse, Foo fighters, Slipknot etc in Mexico and Argentina. There big concerts especially in Mexico City ..
You likely won't regret it! Especially if you get to see them live!! They are an OUTSTANDING live band!!! I was lucky to be able to see them this year and it was well worth the admission!
Sometimes it better catchy riffs than townsend complicated notes. Paul McCartney once said about their succesful as band " just keeping simple. The Warning know and learned very well from legendary bands like AC DC, Rush, deep purple, Muse etc etc. so theses gals are already making as you said real and genuine Rock. Thanks man and cheers.
I have been a die hard fan of The Warning since about five years time now, the thing that hit me the first time I saw them is "who are they, from where are they where have they been hiding!?" I was flabbergasted and felt something I had not been experiencing for a long long time. I could not get them out of my head and I was singing one of their tunes as soon as I woke up in the morning and as I went to bed I was thinking of The Warning. Then all the sudden one told me that The Warning was his favorite girl band. And I realized they where females all three. I had never thought of that, to me they where a bonified rock band that played some fierce rock music. And I still do not se them as pretty or good looking, it just does not matter, their music and the conviction with that they perform it., makes me not care how they look or in what degree they are beautiful, I just disappear into that cloud of bliss when I hear them or see them. They have this aura they are emanating, which takes you to a musical heaven. I have tried to understand what it is making The Warning so good, but I have not succeeded in pinpointing anything particular which is not a part of some other thing they have. So in my opinion their quality is universal, it´s like having a lightbulb hanging in a dark room turning it on and all of the sudden there is warmth and good feelings filling the before dark space. I guess you can summarize them in what Dany said 2017 in their Ted talk Nevada. When she stated that Music is Life, it´s born through feelings and love. The Warning is representing all that, and it´s the reason they are shining so bright. They represent everything positive in music. There are no gadgets or gimmicks. There are only three devoted and very smart women who love playing music because they like doing what they love and not because they want to be famous. Thanks for sharing your thoughts
Their songwriting, musicianship, professionalism, talents, passion, charisma, and their extraordinary sibling dynamic, all blend their magic to make these young women a phenomenon that's going to rock the planet. Their interpolation of 'Enter Sandman' may be the best 'cover' of an epic rock song, ever!! Their entire discography, to date, is immaculately conceived! Heed 'The Warning'!! I did hear that the drummer Pau does the majority of the writing. They of course all work together but she is the driving creative force. I heard them talk about how she brings a keyboard on tour and will come up with melodies and songs. the last album Keep me Fed they worked with some other people too.
I agree with all you said but I do not necessarily agree that in their songs you "don't have to think." The tunes are catchy but their lyrics are very thought provoking, in my opinion. I'm 73 year old and I've experienced it all from Elvis to The Beatles, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Metallica, etc. And I haven't been this excited about a band since Chicago, which is a different sound. I think they have 3 areas where they excel. They are talented musicians and along with that goes solid vocals. I also think they are very creative song writers, especially for being so young. And finally, they take total command of the stage! Maybe I should add they are very in touch with their fans. Their appreciation of their fans is so obvious and this causes The Warning Army to be very loyal, even protective of these very talented ladies. Rock on!
I agree about the don’t have to think comment, but actually it’s true that you don’t have to think to love their songs. But here is the key, the more you DO think the better they are. They write in a way that you can take it at whatever level you’re ready for. That not easy. Their lyrics are smarter than they appear and can be probed deeper, or enjoyed at face value. Not everyone can write like that.
From one (nearly) 73 year old to another, yeah you’re 100% right, I’ve been on their case for nearly 11 years now and have done nothing but marvel at them and their dogged dedication and determination to be who they are now - International rock stars! To me the biggest part of their appeal is their transparency in sharing their lives with their fans, they are such loveable souls! They are also so very humble, which is, I’m sure, part of their upbringing; their Mom and Dad have done an amazing job of raising them!
Broad appeal comes from good music. You make good music, everyone will find you. Also I’m not surprised that their popularity in the U.S. People to remember this is where the Music Corporate Industry is. They try very hard to control the musical narrative, and they want Taylor Swift. They like the homegrown(narrative/agenda following) types. Which to me, leaves money on the table. Especially since the U.S. relationship with Mexico is in a lot ways more line a 51st state than an international neighbor. I’d love to see these girls as the #1, good humans, talented, amazing backstory, and above all else great music. We need more of The Warning and less of that other person I mentioned.
You're WAAAAAAY down deep in the Warning rabbit hole, man, but that's OK - It's comfy down here, and there's plenty of company. They're a legit phenomenon. 🤘😎⚡
Their songs appear to be simple but they have a lot of sophistication to make it appealing and cachy and they sell them as nobody else with their performance.
Agreed. They check every box. They had quite a year. I got to stand right in front of Dany at The Stony Pony here in NJ last year. Next year I’m sure will be massive as well. Waiting on tours to be announced. I’m sure they will be on some incredible line ups. Possibly a Grammy as well.
While i've always listened to multiple genres, me and rock grew up together so thats my favorite. I listen to two bands everyday since i found them, the warning and band maid. They became my current favorites for the same reasons, overall sound, songwriting, playing, singing, and even the stage personas. But, their ability to sound better live is the cherry on top. The fact that they are some real lookers is just not fair. The love they show for their fans and that they appear to be nice fun people is just more than i could expect after 76 years of rockin.
The Warning is much more popular than the number of people listening to them on Spotify would suggest. The reason is very simple: they are listened to mostly on TH-cam with tons and tons of material to choose, including professionally mixed full concerts. An example of that is a German metal band (I will not name it) which has 3 times more Spotify listeners than The Warning but similar number of YT subscribers and twice smaller global Google Trends footprint.
Another oldie here (67). They could have been popular in any era because they're legit. No one works harder than they do. They have mastered their instruments well enough to be able to play almost anything in the rock genre. They have mastered songwriting, which includes structure and lyrics. They blend their vocals well. Their songs don't all sound the same (sorry AC/DC). They sound better live than they do in studio. They are nice people. And, of course, they look good, but I don't really care what they look like. The scary thing is that they already have four albums out and the oldest one is only 24. They could retire at 30,28,25 with something like eight albums and go on and do whatever else suits their fancy.
One thing missing to me, no mention of Alé who is one of the best Bassist I know of, she reminds me a lot of a young Tal Wilkenfeld, she’s just so good at what she does - and her versatility has just been show by their cover of Alannis Morissette You oughta know - her bass runs in it are pure perfection!
wholesome - humble - thankful - authenticity - hard working - outgoing - social media wizards - networkers.. etc. etc. etc. There's so much to like and they're so adept at what they do - both on stage and off stage. The reason the US has been slow picking up is in part due to the media bias toward other genres, which has been pushing rock/metal down, over the last decade or more, while raising up pop and other assorted genres.
catchy? yes...simple? some (many times they add instrumental or vocal floritures to their songs).....straigth forward? hell no: 2 or more people understand diferent meanings to the same song of theirs and this happens in almost every song so, no very straigth forward then
What makes The Warning so good? 1- They began very young. Assuming music is much like language, children learn language more quickly than adults. A few years headstart early in life makes a big difference. I suspect that this shows even in the relative musical development of each sister. Age-wise Dany began later with piano lessons at age 6 and guitar lessons at 8. Pau began piano lessons at 4, drum lessons at 6. But she was also playing Rock Band before that, so her drumming began even earlier. (small digression here: Dany was playing guitar on Rock Band, but the guitar simulation was different from actual guitar playing, so less was gained from it). Ale's timeline is slightly less documented, but I presume she began lessons as soon as she was big enough. I'm guessing piano lessons at 4, same as Pau. We know she was playing bass at age 7. BUT she had older sisters practicing their lessons for at least 2 or 3 years before she could sit at a piano. That degree of musical exposure almost certainly had an effect. Of the Villarreal sisters Ale is the one with perfect pitch and timing. Pau developed musically faster than Dany, and Ale learned to play bass very quickly. Dany, by normal standards, is a quick learner, but compared to Pau and Ale she is in third place. 2- Nobody important held them back. Exactly the opposite. They got immediate support from their parents, and music became a priority. While they have written songs which refer to being told they couldn't do what they were trying to do those comments came from outside the family. The most important people in their lives gave them 100% support. 3- They are driven, enthusiastic, hard-working. They love performing. They are doing exactly what they want to do, and it shows. 4- Songwriting. The word I am going to use is accessible. They don't overcomplicate things. This is Rock and Roll, and they aren't trying to impress critics. They want the audience clapping their hands and singing the words. I am not a musician, and I don't have the ability to identify exactly what they are doing and why it works. I love listening to musicians dive into their songs and pick things out. I'm convinced what The Warning is doing is not simple, they just make it look that way. They do understand music theory, but this isn't some academic pursuit. Get up on your feet and make some noise.
I agree with your points, to them, I would add “authenticity“. You never get the sense that they are playing or acting in the role of Rock Star… they just are! So many bands present themselves with all the stereotypical trappings of being Rockstars, but it just comes across as disingenuous. Another interesting comment I hear from Reactors is that they are “proud” of them and their accomplishments. I can’t think of another band where that sentiment is so commonly expressed. All part of the appeal. A recent concert goer noted that there is a definite increase in the number of young female fans attending their concerts. It’s great to know that the younger generation of women is appreciating what they represent.
Their songwriting is excellent, but has anyone specifically mentioned their lyrics. I think they’re great, and this are the new album is big step forward fro Error, which also had very strong lyrics.
The other thing that makes their music work is that they use a lot of different genres, pop, rock, hard rock, grunge, punk, alternative and even a little metal. But they don't play it like it was 30 years ago, the put a modern spin on them
If you haven’t figured out how to be a big star by now dude, you might want to look into herding goats or something more your speed. Everyone appreciates a good glass of goat milk every now and then.
I'm sure you don't get what he meant. He never said, "They got there because of their looks"... he said it never hurts if you are good and also good looking, there is a huge difference in that statement, if he was gonna say that than there would be no need for a dedicated video and why would he even care about thier music and go to shows if that was his attitude towards them?
I think he’s saying that it’s a bonus but their talent, great music, and fan connection is very much the most important part… they’re my age and off the stage they’re some of the most genuine artists in my age group
He never said or implied that. He addressed the “elephant in the room” about their looks early on, and he wasn’t wrong in what he said about that. He did spend the rest of the time describing all the other attributes of the band and their music that make them both good and popular.
I have been waiting for The Warning for 20 years. Rock and roll delivered with both precision and genuine passion. It's been a long time. My favorite band.
Preach! Been a long time coming. The fact that it’s 3 adorable Mexican sisters is delightful and a tad surprising. Love these ladies.

The fact that all three are classically-trained pianists, and play other instruments like the saxophone, gives them a deep musical background to draw from. They also practice very hard. They are true professionals.
To be clear, there are no saxophones in their recordings. That was an instrument from their school days.

But they don't play it like it was 30 years ago, the put a modern spin on them
What makes them so good is they're Mexican and they happen to do their songs in english
When I saw him in Sacramento, it was only 30 minutes. I’m jealous you got an hour and 45 kudos to you
If you haven’t figured out how to be a big star by now dude, you might want to look into herding goats or something more your speed.
Everyone appreciates a good glass of goat milk every now and then.
Hey, dummy? They were kids when they got good. Stop acting like they got there because of thier looks.
He doesn't.
Voted dumb comment of the day.
ETA: What is the first thing you notice? Wow, they are good looking, wonder how they sound . . . HOLY SHIT!!1!1!!01!
