    I have a little flat/apt and just enough for daily living. A few pots of herbs is the best I can do. A chair in the sunshine and potted flowers. Relationships mean more now than things. I have a little tent and I go camping to be close to nature. At 69 its an effort but its what I love and its simple.

    Lovely video and I adore the grass bouquet you created for your table. You quoted "we're too poor to buy cheap" but I also love the Ralph Lauren quote "simplicity is the ultimate luxury." A simple, quality life is clearly underrated.

    I also think we don’t spend enough time talking to our parents, Grandparents, aunts, Uncles etc… about how things used to be for them, advice they can give how they feel about how the world has changed. We think after they may be gone why didn’t I do that with them?? So for those of you who can still do that I encourage you to take the time:))))) Love your channel, it always relaxes me!! 😊🌻

    I realized yesterday that it is already July and I have not sat at the patio table and enjoyed a cup of tea and listened to the birds and the frogs. We did have several days of rain and cold weather but, there were other days. I need to be around nature and I lacking enjoying the little things that give me a boost.
    Thank you for reminding me. Every day matters.!

    Thank you so much for this! I never thought my simple way of living would actually be looked down upon...where I have been viewed as stupid and lazy for not doing a million things all the time. I have had to come to grips with accepting that what I want in life may not be "normal" and that's okay.

  • @mamasaidno1749
    @mamasaidno1749 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Something I have always told people who say they want a 'simple life in the country' is 'simple doesn't mean easy'. While I don't run myself ragged doing simple things, I understand that growing vegetables and baking bread takes effort. Many people are not willing to put in the work that allows them to live simply. Good video.

    • @FairylandCottage
      @FairylandCottage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That’s so true. Not everyone wants to put in the effort... it’s too much for them. I find it rewarding but I suppose it’s different for others.

    • @juneroberts5305

      @Mama Said No I absolutely, and utterly agree with every single word you said. People just assume that 'simple' implies easy, when in actual fact it is often the other way round.

    It seems to help me, when I think I want something, to write it down on a list in the back of my notebook and wait a couple weeks - so many times, I’ll come up with a better idea using something I already have, which is more fun.
    With clothes, I’ve gone to so much work to pare my closet down and love it like this, that I want to keep it this way and not clutter it up.
    I really, really love your channel, by the way🥰 It always makes me feel better.

    that desert looked so yummy. my husband and I also live in the country on a small property. I enjoy having space but gardening and keeping up the property is not all easy, it is work that you need to enjoy doing since there is a lot of it :) We have a large garden and some chickens as well as lots of property to mow and keep flower gardens. Healthy work but work none the less.

    That chocolate cake and strawberries looked so delicious! 🍓 Everyday after work, I go to my pallet garden, I have some strawberry plants, I pick and eat the ripe ones every day. Not many daily, but just a handful. Best tasting berries in the world! 🍓 What I do, is to buy expensive items second hand. I bought my last washing machine used, from a company that gives service to them, and give 2 years of warranty. 👍Have a nice week! 😊😊

    I prefer quality over quantity. I have been wearing the same wool coat for 12 years and have no plans to change. I also have a down coat (for particularly frigid Northeast days and nights that is older and still in great shape).I feel the same way about bed linens and other household items. I keep things for a very long time. My dream is to live in the country someday.

    I still get in a mood where I feel like I don’t have enough, I look at my beautiful home and want an extension or a new kitchen or a better car. Then I go the other way, wanting less things, a simpler aesthetic, a curated minimalist lifestyle. I forget to appreciate what I am so lucky to have, my family, my safe home, my garden, my health, I hope I can learn to stay in gratitude more and forget the noise from outside.

    Living in the city is truly more expensive. My friends have half the income we do and they have a home of their own, a piece of land and that peacefulness because they do not worry so much about bills. We on the other hand spend so much money on rent and utilities that we could simply support ourselves with that money without needing more. I noticed recently that during the pandemic me and my partner just got so unmotivated to cook the convenience of food deliveries really took a huge part of what we could save up. It sometimes feels that if you would be forced, without these accommodations life would be much more about enjoying things and not about consuming them. Thank you for always bringing me that peace of mind ❤

    I always remember my dad saying how he wanted to move to the countryside ("out in the sticks" as he used to call it) when he retired. He used to love fishing, gardening, metal detecting, and painting landscapes. Sadly, he passed away at age 54 back in 2009 without managing to have his little country house.
    If my circumstances were different or somehow change, I would love to achieve what he hoped to have one day.

    I totally agree with quality over quantity and I still struggle with it. Only now at 32 am I starting to really become myself and I find the clothes that I have really do not "fit" me anymore, but I also feel guilty for buying clothes that I don't really need, but would make me feel more myself and happier.

    My husband and I both grew up in families who had plenty, and more. But we chose a different path, and have had to learn to live on much less. When he left his lucrative job, I started buying clothes at discount stores, only to find the fabrics uncomfortable (they didn't breathe), but the clothes didn't last. Now I buy just a few pieces that are made of better fabrics. I buy solid colors and dress them up with scarves etc. I used to have so many clothes, it took days to change out for the seasons in my closet. Now, if it doesn't all fit, I have to declutter. I actually have empty drawers in my dresser now🤗 I'm so content with this situation too!❤️
    We just ate our first cucumbers of the season.... the store bought ones don't even compare!

    The difference your grandmother and us today is that's all there was all winter coats were wool and she probably didn't have the money to replace it. I remember my mum saying there was a time when she only had two pairs of under pants. She would wash one out by hand every night and hang them up to dry. Some things are better today thankfully.

    As soon as i read the title, which is my mantra, i knew it referred to my way of living.. having only what i need of good quality over excess, as the youngest growing up in a family of 5 siblings, I've learned from seeing some family members do the opposite and before you know it, it becomes over consumption and clutter, which clutters the mindcand spirit..great video again, thx!

    I see you threw your pods in the compost. I take a gallon bag, throw all my scraps in it until its chuck full. Then I put it in a large pot, cover it with water and simmer it for a hour or so, drain it and freeze it in ice cube trays, then I can use the amount I need. I use it as a soup base, to make rice, gravy or in the winter to sip on at night. All the vitamins are in my body not the compost. After I've cooked it down then I compost the rest.

    One thing I’ve realized is people stop themselves from the “simple life in the countryside” because they have little to no knowledge that could help them in that lifestyle. For younger folks as well, I know some of my friends are afraid that they wouldn’t be able to do it. We’re taught that to do something you have to have all the knowledge beforehand: in every career, that is how it has now been set up at least, here in Canada). So people associate that with lifestyle as well: they learn their lifestyle from their friends, their family, the media they consume, their teachers and schooling. To change that lifestyle, to go against everything you have learned and start anew, fresh, and completely naive of what is to come, is terrifying. I try my best to be as open about my lifestyle as I can (I am a very private person by nature) so that I can hopefully reach out and teach other people that it’s okay to start on a new path, no matter your skill level or knowledge. I have plenty of knowledge from my parents about living frugally, gardening, butchering, but I also know I have so much to learn about making my own lifestyle and creating my own space. My gardening is different than my mothers. My priorities are different from my fathers. As much as I have learned from those before, I learn from my own experience and research as well. I am starting naive and small, and unknowledgeable about my path ahead. But life is not a career. I am allowed to be clueless and learn on the go XD

    When I was little, we had little things. Then I was a student and could not afford my housing. Now I'm married and we have money but I feel like I need so much stuff. I drown in it. Because I feel like one day I will be poor again, and then I need all of this. But I'm so sick of my scaresety mindset. This fear. So after watching you explain how you live I know that I have to change it. It's going to be a big challenge but I need it. We need it. Thank you

      Great realisation for you!
      Good luck of your path. Once you’re ready for a change you can’t go back for long.
      Make sure you get help if you need.
      I too have a scarcity mindset sometimes.
      It’s ingrained from childhood. It can take years to undo

    Hi, I always waiting for your new videos and it inspires me to live minimally. I like the calmness of your voice, but often I cannot hear the sound of the video without using earphones or headphones (that I wanted to use less often) even set the volume to 100%. I don't know if you could do anything to increase the volume level from your end. I have no technical idea related to this, so please excuse me if it is not logical to request this. Thank you.
