It is dangerous but useful to find yourself and appreciate life how its meant. Makes you realize relationships are what you make them and most people who give good relationship advice were ok with being alone before that chapter in their lives. Reflected and grew then pursued

I don't consider myself an introvert by nature, I am enfp on the myers-briggs test, still I enjoy doing most things alone (including travelling, eating out and going to the movies) just as much as (and sometimes more than) doing them in company. It's a skill I've really gotten good at in my adult life.

LAURA LORA I’d say don’t socialize more than needed, skip going to the functions, the parties, & industry kick backs *if they don’t serve a purpose* a.k.a - aren’t contributing to networking with people who you actually see yourself working w/ long term. Ain’t nothing wrong with having fun, but continuous & meaningless socializing drains us introverts. I’m like this myself, and that’s why I think saving your “socializing energy” should be saved for actually taking care of business rather than unnecessary amount socializing that’ll take away from actual networking anyway. Important to use whatever energy you have for no.1, your art (music) // and number 2. connecting w/ potential collaborators. It’s a whole different ball game if you’re an introvert so you gotta be smart with your energy 💫

Literally everyone talks about “loving yourself” but nobody wants to face the reality that we need to love solitude. That’s the line people won’t cross because it’s seen as “sad” and “lonely”.. that mentality is SAD, if you don’t enjoy your own company I don’t think you can ever truly love yourself

I hate when people say “you’ve changed” it’s like no shit I’ve changed, I’m changing and learning and growing everyday!! It so closed minded for people to assume I’m going to be exactly the same person I was a couple years ago. People call me weird cos i eat, go out and travel alone. They didn’t know the happiness i get with being just by myself. Being in a group overwhelms me, or hanging out with a friend sometimes end up arguing for having different opinions.
I do this too until I realized that I get targeted. No I need to recover from my anxiety and fear of being targeted by psychos because it's happened before. People who live in solitude are just perfect victims.
I love traveling alone and going out to eat alone when I do! It’s overwhelming and stressful when you do it with others

I relate too everything you said. I hate arguing with people or just disagreeing. I had to cut off a friend because she wouldn’t let me say what I want and didn’t respect my boundaries. Now I spend so much time and alone and I love it. I’ll draw or do whatever I want and it’s so peaceful. I’m really not a people person so it’s easy for me to be alone.

Yeah that's something I've learned in recent years. I'm actually living with someone like that and... it's hard. I've been there so I can relate but at the same time, now being on the other side and having gone through lots of self-growth, having to experience someone else's constant negativity and plain nihilism is taking a toll on me. You can't help someone who doesn't want to help themselves.

I got zero friends, I inherited ADHD as a kid. I've always been misunderstood by the people around me. I don't have the energy to make someone understand me. If you try, I'll try. But I'm not going to go out of my way to get you to understand me. So I just stay in my own lane.

The biggest irony of having "too many friends" is how much they hold you back from being adventurous and doing what you actually want to do. Like, it amazes me how people choose to not do something just simply for the fact that no one wants to go with them, it sounds more lonely than actually being alone. Most (extroverted) people are pretty boring and exhausting and yet for some reason they are so narcissistic too. Having fun in your own company is the best gift that someone can give to themselves, the world is way more open for you to just enjoy it.

I found myself being alone because all of my friends had never grew up. They basically stopped growing after high school, also because they don't fu***ing read.
I found myself also in same situation, but for the opposite reason most of my friends did grow up but are caught up in the rat race of work or live for their kids; when I run into them I see the life sucked out of them like they are on auto pilot

I dine alone on my birthday (it’s on Valentine’s Day, so none of my friends/family are ever available). And I love it! I’ve gotten used to it and dress up really fancy and bring my Bible and people look at me like I’m crazy.

Been alone all my life and learned to avoid people who make me feel bad when I'm around them because I like peace and love
I grew up as an only child and my daughter is also an only child. I love being alone, I enjoy my own company. It is so much more relaxing and peaceful than being in a problematic relationship
I've learned that negative friends are usually jealous snakes who probably wish for you to fail. As a loner myself I find most people are jealous of my independence and try to exploit me more than help me in any way. My best friends are other loners who I see once a month lol. Watch out for unsolicited advice from so called friends. Most advice from friends will lead to your downfall. At least that's been my experience.

That's true for me, an introvert. 30 minutes of being alone during a busy work day (at a large hospital) is all that I need to recharge and get back in there.
This is true! It’s funny because while I am definitely an introvert I enjoy being on stage. I think some of the best performers are introverts.

I've been happily with my husband / best friend and the love of my life for 6 years....but nothing refuels me like spending time alone. I regularly take solo date days (eating out at restaurants, going to the cinema, reading at the park) and take intentional 1-week solo trips every year to be alone and spiritually connect inwards with my soul. I love my partner, and I also love myself. I recommend everyone try it :)

That screenshot about figure skating from your "friend" is ridiculous. There can be no progress if everybody had that "stay in your lane" mindset -- women wouldn't even have the vote for example. Live your life how you want to, and if that means creating your own path rather than following in somebody else's footsteps, then so be it -- others will soon be following you.

You can’t compare women wanting the right to vote to a black peer being concerned about another black person engaging in a white sport. Women were prevented from voting from the dominant group, men. Kelly’s friend is a marginalized person trying to protect her marginalized friend. It’s reductive, yes, but entirely different. Her friend isn’t saying “stay in your lane” as in “this is something you are incapable of doing or handling” like women were told when wanting to vote. Her friend is saying “white people don’t want blacks in figure skating”. And there’s truth in that. Sports like gymnastics, figure skating, tennis, etc have had incredibly racist histories and exclusionary practices. Should Kelly figure skate if she wants to? Absolutely! But her friend being wary of it is precisely because she exists in a marginalized status and understands the implications.
DM there were also women begging other women to stop trying to get them the rights to vote because men would never change or see them differently. This kind of message is unhelpful and unproductive

I’m a loner. Always have been. Never had more than 2 good friends at a time. I’m used to doing things by myself and prefer it that way sometimes, as I do enjoy my solitude. But I’m not going to pretend like certain things aren’t more fun with a friend. I’ll go out to eat alone, but it’s much more fun when you can do it with a good friend.

There is nothing wrong with having friends. The problem is that friends do not exist. That is, they are not really LISTENING and so it is hard to have a relationship who is out to lunch . It is like talking to a wall.

You are so right and I hate people, too!! I love being by myself. I traveled by myself and it was the best thing I've ever done.
I went to a restaurant and ordered a pizza, and they were like “ma’am, you can order and takeaway, but the restaurant won’t open until 5PM”. I was like “okay sure, I’ll wait”. And eventually the guy took a chair of a table and told me I could eat the pizza there if I wanted. I enjoyed my half hour of silence and no people❤️.

She is correct to a point u enter and leave this world alone, even being a triplet u entered alone because the three did not come the exact time, it comes minutes apart, never at the same minute.

By that logic, people who die in mass murder, war etc don't die alone because another person died near them. What she means is you still couldn't mind read your triplet siblings, even in the womb, in that sense we are all alone and we all die alone. We are all alone in our minds and only operate with the rest of the world using our trust, beliefs and communication which can all be flawed.

Insecure friends are so toxic. I have experienced it a lot in school and my early 20s. Now I am 29 and I realized I only kept people in my life that are curious, excited to learn new things and supportive. I like the energy

When one is alone, peace evolves around him or her. Besides having a life partner, I agree that being alone is the best. This is because you think better and prevent that negative energy, misunderstanding, fight, enemity and so on that could result from having friends. In my opinion, I think having friends should only be for financial benefits.
I think she was wrong. If it’s a “white dominated” sport, she should have encouraged you even more to strive and be better at it so you can be an example for other black girls and boys, poc, and even white people who love how you skate :) There shouldn’t be so much pressure on black people to act a certain way in order for there blackness to be valid. We can like things that aren’t stereotypically black and be black!

I figure skated growing up and most times i was the only poc at my club. I continued til the end of high school because I simply loved the sport and I was 'good' at it. Over the years i've seen more kids of colour start skating even after I left. it really humbled me to see more kids of colour because i guess they saw themselves in me. i wish i had a skating role model who looked like me when i first started but i guess i had to be that for myself :)

The moment I stopped accepting unsolicited “advice” from “friends” was when I started accepting myself and loving myself more. You’ve got a good head on your shoulders!
I worked in a call center in my early 20’s and one of the older ladies told me “Live alone for at least a year.” And I’m glad I did it. Didn’t have roommates or a live-in-boyfriend. Learned a lot about myself.
Solitude is priceless, we need time to know and love ourselves. Good word.💛✨

wise and beautiful words for those of us who spend outings wondering when it's gonna be over. the amazing thing about making your own plans is that you choose where to go, what to eat, you don't have to worry about making conversation, and you don't have to worry about dressing or acting like an idiot in front of your friend. plus the best part? you never have to check the clock wondering when its gonna be over. the second you stop having fun, you get up out of that movie theater, that cafe, that beach, and you get in your car and go straight home. what a luxury.
