Having the main melody as the chorus and focal point IS genius, sooooo many bands don't do this

There were a few years where all I listened to was stuff like this and I feel like it influenced my aesthetics forever. And now nobody knows what the hell "a Myspace scene kid" was. Hits me right in the feels. Maybe that's the next era people need to get mad nostalgic for, because it was a hell of a time GOD DAMN I'M OLD NOW

what other stuff did you listen to? like what else that was related to this?

    • @sparrowthesissy2186

@@ethanfernandez8055 I typed a lot and barely answered your question, but here you go: The biggest two that come to mind kinda like this are The Presets and The Blood Brothers, but at that time I also listened to a lot of Dead Kennedys and Mars Volta. I was mostly about fast, flashy, screechy & falsetto stuff then. Finch, The Sound of Animals Fighting, Chiodos, and Fall of Troy, and a little Coheed and Cambria. On the heaviest end of that, The Locust and The Number 12 Looks Like You (not sure why I'm including them, they're nothing like this song). On the lightest end, stuff like Postal Service, Franz Ferdinand, Interpol, Bloc Party, Los Campensinos, The Cold War Kids, and Foals. The more I got into playing and producing my own stuff, the more I got into the dancey techno stuff, and then into dubstep & dnb. I don't remember as many artists from that point, because I'd listen to huge mixes & playlists. I had a lot of rage from being kinda half-way in the closet as a teenager and in early college, still in the Bush years, and all this music definitely kept me going. Then I went through a long Jazz, Funk, and Hip Hop period, and I'm just now emerging from a City Pop obsession. Hope some of that gives you some entertainment or solace.

MGMT came later but that’s what they (NGMT) sound like.
I know MGMT are more influenced by OMD rather than like… Severed Heads.

I really like this persons writing style, and what they right about. This seems like a song about a guy wondering what a girl goes through when they choose to pay their bills this way.
