I love the fact you're using all the different resources and just mashing them together. I, too, have too much RPG stuff sitting around that I never use. My problem is I tend to want to use them the way they are SUPPOSED to be used, rather than just use them as resources to create my own. Thanks for showing us the way.
@@GeekGamers01 I think my problem is that I rarely use my RPG stuff. Sure, I've used the PHB and some of the other D&D books. But I have a bunch of stuff I've purchased, DLed, or printed out that I never really used at all outside of reading through some of them. So I get analysis paralysis of wanting to use things the way they are meant to be used (in totality), find I dont like this or that aspect of them, get frustrated bc I feel like I'm not giving them a chance, hem and haw about trying to use it at all... and then end up just NOT using it. I get in my own way a LOT.
Great video! Thanks for showing NoteQuest! I was very happy about that. I'm sorry about your character tho. NoteQuest is a meatgrinder (lol), it is inspired by the "Roguelike" genre and some OSR games. It has a danger management system using "torches" as a resource. By spending torches you can guarantee to escape the deadly traps.
Thanks for the time you put in making the video I know it’s been out for a while but like I said earlier I just stumbled across to you. I enjoy your video I’m into trying to get into solo playing I can’t find anyone to play with a 70-year-old. Thank you keep them coming I really enjoy them I don’t have a whole bunch of people to pass it onto but if I did I would.
So glad you enjoyed the vid and welcome to the channel. I hope if you want to find a group you are able to do so, but solo RPG is fun either way--just a different experience.
Would love to see an extended session series, with follow up. This one for instance. Solo play seems to be difficult to sustain, so an example of that vs. starting anew each time...Thanks! love the videos Edit: wrote that before the last moment...but comment still stands :)
@AK Thanks for the comment and good suggestion. I've done a couple of vids with 2 parts but nobody watches the second part typically so practically speaking I don't focus on that. But I see your point in terms of trying to present that to viewers. I agree it can be a challenge. Will think on that. Poor Fidget! Maybe this was all a dream and he can come back somehow... we shall see...
I used to do this waaaay back with the DnD 1st Ed DMG, which is a gold mine. Nowadays Shadows Of Brimstone more than scratches this itch :) Mixing and matching various resources you have on hand looks like fun though :)
@madquest8 Yes, SOB does a great job of this sort of thing, agreed. and the AD&D GM Guide is my single best resource, if that's what you are referring to.
Thanks for the example solo adventure. Lots of valuable ideas. I have an idea that sudden death could be handled by "plot armor" and death-saving throws that allow one death per level. Question: Have you also considered extending sudden death scenarios with an afterlife? For example, a Lost Souls-type RPG. I am experimenting with OSE solo with a dungeon crawl. My goal is to keep things simple to develop a playable, enjoyable solo gaming experience. As a DM, I tend to overdevelop the world, scenario, situation, and I want to refocus on the player aspects of solo gaming.
Great question! I have not done so yet but am working on a video right now for the Cairn RPG that may have elements of two dimensions of reality... not exactly what you’re asking about but closer
How do you handle "secret" rolls when your solo rpging? For example, there is a secret door in a room but since your character didn't succeed in the roll you don't find it but the secret door is still there. Do you become the writer and just don't let your character know about it or...?
No Dex saving throw?! No inspiration to expend? But but but... Fidget stands before the gates to the entrance of his afterlife. He hears a booming voice bellow, "Not yet! You're not done! I have given you a set amount of things for you to accomplish and you're so far behind you will probably never die. Get back to work!" With that, a large spectral hand swipes at Fidget and smacks an inch off his height and sends Fidget back to the material plane where he wakes up feeling smaller. As he shakes his head, he has a glimpse of a past life where he was a Storm Giant. He thinks, "Oh for goodness sake! I AM far behind! OK, back to exploring this dungeon!"
Love DIY! I recently made a Solo / Quest Generator for Dungeon Degenerates (based on many of the resources you covered) and posted on BGG. Plays like a proper RPG now!

It is true that, "genius comes from synthesis" -- plus that ending was great!

Glad you enjoyed the vid... I rarely use things the way they are 'supposed to' be used. :)

BTW..
I just uploaded the expansion: Expanded World
:D

That was great! Fidgit's story ended and now one of his gnome cousins can come looking for him and continue the quest. :)
Yaaassss!!
That was very enjoyable to watch...and the way it ends it was hilarious! Thank you. Love this video!
Thanks! It was fun to film, too.
It just occurred to me after watching this again that you are now on the same path I am, designing your own solo RPG game without even knowing it! 😄
I Love notequest, is one of my favorites games! Definitely my favorite dungeon crawl
Thanks again I love listening to your process
@Henry Panti Much appreciated--I'm glad to hear that.
Cool to see that Palladium book. Those were my go to RPGs back in the 80s and 90s. They’re crazy to look at now. So many rules!

Next episode: the Search For Fidget

Thank you for your helpful videos!
Definitely going to get back to my own campaign.
Like in all good cliffhangers. It only "appears" that Fidget dies. At the beginning of the next chapter we see what really happened (rerolls the die).
Or something ;)
Great video. Thank you
Oh God, this is BACK !!!
I thought was getting delusional Hahahaha. Good good good !!!
Sorry! Had an audio issue with original upload which had to be fixed
Where did you get those extra sheets I understand the books? Do you order them or buy them or what?
Not sure to what you are referring. Time stamp?
Where did you get that cool miniature?
Time stamp?
@@GeekGamers01 @5:57
So sorry I don’t recall though I just used it in another video. I like it too!
Great video! :D
Thanks!!
Pick up again with a sequel and use the reroll!!!! FIDGETY WIDGET!!!
Wait! Wait! The die roll wasn't on the paper! It doesn't count! :-) Great video as usual!

You are asking a tough question-one for which I don’t have a great answer.
Trap is a t on the map an x is the treasure.
Where can I get these papers you are using?
Which papers?
@@GeekGamers01 Sorry the creating your own adventure ones you are using in the video
@@GregRJohnson736 That’s NoteQuest-see vid description
@@GeekGamers01 Thank you, appreciate it :)
lol call the gnomes next of kin and relay the bad news.
Hahaha!!
Awwww poor Fidget. 😢 I will say this though, I think you used the wrong colored d6 for that roll and therefore should roll again.

a translation version in german may nice 🥺
I really want to.see you roleplay a campaign out no, rule explanation just you., Party member and your hireling 😉
To clarify-you want to see me roleplay a campaign with no rules? Is that what you were asking?

@Mei Li Ooh that's cool. I will check it out.
