Wonderful show! Linemen are the best at knowing the vital aspects of the sport. Conlin is an encyclopedia. I was at the ‘94 game against Iowa when we scored 35(!) points in the first quarter.

Still own the only shirt which mattered from '94: "Joe Paterno's National Champions."

Goon is 100% correct on picking an assistant the player's love with no HC experience. It very rarely has worked historically.

Some additional context to the '94 Championship...It wasn't so much the NCAA that stripped PSU of being champs or co-champs, as it was (a) The bowl game obligations at the time. The obligation for Big Ten champs to play in the Rose Bowl vs Pac 10 champs (#12 Oregon) while Nebraska had the opportunity to play #3 Miami and beat them. iMO Even if Indiana didn't score twice late in that game to put PSU at #2 behind Nebraska at #1 entering the bowl games, it wouldn't have mattered (b) Tom Osbourne (Nebraska coach) was a nice guy in the eyes of many/most/all voters and everyone sensed his retirement wasn't too far off. JoePa already played in 3 National Championship games in the past 15 years. IMO The voting wasn't entirely about the better team, but more about the nice guy coach who didnt have a championship and would be retiring soon vs another nice guy coach who already had 2 relatively recent championships. PSU was also relatively new to the Big Ten and many/most of the voters in the Big Ten footprint didn't view PSU as central enough to the Big 10 family to vote newcomer PSU over Tom Osbourne. (c) it was a different era. Could JoePa had a scathing press conference sticking up for his team, identifying the injustice with PSU making their own championship banner etc the way the UCF did when they went undefeated in 2017? Yeah, but JoePa didn't have that kind of temperment and challenging the status quo wasn't as acceptable back then (d) A subsequent championship game after both PSU & Nebraska teams won their bowl games would have been unprecedented and tthe NCAA, TV networks etc weren't that forward thinking or flexible. I don't think it's fair to blame them for not having another game, but I do believe it's reasonable to suggest they should have had co-champions that year. There's no question that the '94 championship debacle was one of the primary motivators for changing the system for future championships and eventually allowing conference champions out of their obligations in order to play in championship games. SIDE NOTE - If anyone could make it happen I'd contribute a few sheckles for the '94 team to be presented with championship rings (or co-championship ones if we don't want to ruffle feathers) that they should have gotten 20 years ago at halftime of an upcoming home game along with a new banner. If only PSU played Nebraska at home this year...that would be a trolling for the ages especially since I think their coach (Matt Rhule) was on that '94 PSU team
