The ratcheting sound is from the rear hub of a mountain bike, although the noise is sometimes referred to as your cassette, which is a part of a bike that is mounted onto the hub.
The cassette is what is used to change your gear ratio and consists of 9 - 12 chainrings of various sizes. The chain runs over the cassette and connects to the front chainring, which connects to the cranks that you pedal with.
Below the cassette is a derailleur, which is the mechanism that moves the chain up and down the cassette. A lever on your handlebars connects to the derailleur with a cable to shift your gears.
The whole system of derailleur, cassette, chain, chainring, and cranks is referred to as the drivetrain.
The two biggest manufacturers of drivetrains are Shimano and SRAM, although others exist. Shimano has 4 levels of products, and they are my personal preferred company. The product lines, from worst to best are Deore, SLX, XT, XTR.
I believe SRAM's drivetrains go something like this, although please comment if I got it wrong. SX, NX, GX, XO, XO1, XX1, XX1 AXS.

You could use the front slots for machine guns and put weaponry of your choice in a specially configured turret. The rest of the storage is for survival purposes

There are bikes where the rider is closer to the ground and pedals are in front that is said to be the fastest bike (has less air resistant). Thing is that configuration uses different muscles.
