Artist: Bhudaza/ Song Title; Nomali/ Album: Bo-mapefane/ Genre; South African Jazz / Comment: A splendid re-working of what is otherwise a very old song.
Thanks for clearing that up. Bra Caiphus is a 1st class composer. I 1st heard it played by the Dedication Orchestra (the UK big band, formed to celebrate the work of the S. African Blue Notes & Harry Miller). On that night it was credited to Dudu Pukwana. In 06, Bra Hugh performed it at the Barbican & he credited Caiphus. It's also featured on Bra Hugh's album 'Home is where the Music is' recorded in the 70s with inter alia Dudu (sax) and on Dudu's album 'In the Townships'. hence my confusion
Caiphus Semenya. Composed in New York, 1963 on a cold winter day as he missed his then fiance, Letta Mbulu(source Caiphus Semenya - Live At Carnival City)
I still remember i was in grade 8 in a taxi trip from qwaqwa to welkom...never have i ever been so traumatized with what is being said here.God forbid...i hope no one has ever used that muthi expecting any result...yhooo!!ai
Great to hear, whizzkidkis. I didn't know about the other versions you mention. I only have the Hugh Masekela "Hope" album version, Caiphus Semenya's "Live at Carnival City" version(brilliant album btw) and this one. I must find the other versions. I think it's a wonderful song and fully agree on Semenya, wonderful composer.
By Dudu Pukwana__Angel Nemali then Caiphus Semenya__Nomali, a rendition of Dudu's Angel Nemali put in words by the great Caiphus. Then there's Bra Hugh's and Bhudaza Mapefane's.
Music has no religions, nationalities, it is just purity of heart, spirit.

Concoctions of music instrument that hit the worst nostalgia, result orgasm of eardrums and melting heart. Addicted to African Jazz.

This is a classic. Question is the composer? Dudu Pukwana or Caiphus Semenya?
