Caitlin Clark & The Indiana Fever's Head Coach Christie Sides is receiving backlash after some post-game comments she mad about Clark's game and how it needs to be adjusted for her to be more efficient for the Indiana Fever. Fans are outraged after her comments and suggest she should just let Clark do her thing. The problem is - Sides is simply doing her job. Caitlin Clark appreciates being coached and realises it will help her elevate her game even further.

The first rule of leadership is to praise in public, criticize in private. You don't go on the record to the whole world criticizing your players. That negativity does not build up confidence. All she is doing is fostering doubt. You have to remember, last year was her first time as head coach for any basketball team. She's a rookie, for all intents and purposes. She needs a lot of work on her game coaching.
Her coach does the coaching, she doesn't need help from the peanut gallery sitting at home.

That’s a good point. How many coaches do you hear saying things like this with all that detail…? I agree she’s been given the power to coach as she wants but this is a bit of good advice and is something all good leaders do in any workplace. 🏀
It's painfully obvious that even her own teammates are hating on her. They deny her the ball when everyone in the building knows it should go to her. She's on the bench when she should be playing. I can tell it's affecting her confidence and her style of play and I havent even touched on her opponents. It seems other WNBA players are jealous of the attention she garners and treat her badly for reasons having nothing to do with the game of basketball. It makes the entire league as well as themselves seem petty and mean-spirited. Something's got to give...

Yes, that’s how I coached little league when my son played and basketball when my son and daughter played. It’s extremely counter productive. Any good coach knows that. I completely agree with you. I hope you coached young people at some point. 99% of the time they know they messed up. I would just wait when I could get a little distance from the players and PARENTS. I would just give him simple things to work on. They are kids. Their attention span is not great for the most part.

When in reality she looks awful this year, can't jump, out of shape, can't finish at the basket, throws the ball away and generally seems way out of it, not what you would expect a professional to be. Caitlin drives to the right or shoots to the left, so they can’t overplay her. Put a small/quick on her she shoots over her. Put a big on her she quickly drives around her for an easy layup or assist. Deadly passer.

Caitlin’s assists & layups result from her threat & defensive preoccupation with her as a scorer with long logo 3s. Teammates spread, defense comes out to cover Caitlin, she drives around them, then either layup or assist. Caitlin as point guard & her Long 3s, offense built around her is necessary for her effectiveness…
Is she gonna coach her or kiss her ass? Caitlin hasn’t earned 💩 at this level and neither has any rookie!!

Her substitution timing is god awful, she’s pulled Clark while hot and taking leads only to sit her down and lose the lead twice. She also allows Mitchell to run wild and take any shit she wants. The other night sides drew up a play for Boston to get the ball and kick out to Clark. Mitchell got the inbound, ignores Boston and fires an air ball with us up by 2. We could have easily lost that game if Mabrey makes the free throws. This is more than just mismanagement of Clark.
She's getting pressure from the woke brigade to sabotage this girl. Caitlin, my advice to you is to snag as much money while you can. Women's basketball doesn't deserve you.

I think that this behaviour was clear since the first pre-season friendly when Caitlin shot her first 3 points bucket against Dallas when the other players of Indiana bench jumped up with joy and the coach, instead, kept going back and forth grunting. This is my opinion

That's what coaches do. I remember in the Easter conference final, the Pacers hit a big shot near the end of the game. The bench went bonkers, and the crowd raised the roof. But then the camera panned over to coach Larry Bird. He just stood there on the sideline, stone faced, arms crossed, looking at the clock. He knew the game wasn't over yet. That's true leadership, regardless of the circumstances, a leader has to be even keeled until the task is finished.

The coach is bringing to light all the weaknesses Caitlin has. I am not surprised. She turned over the ball a lot in her collegiate career, and had a mediocre shooting percentage.

@stargazer3677 none of what you said is true. I watched Caitlin from the time she was a freshman before most even knew who she was. But I'll back up what I'm saying with stats. I'll do her career collegiate averages since it would take too long to break it all down by year...
FG%- 46.2% (she made nearly half the shots she took, which is pretty impressive)
3P%- 38% (which is a very high shooting percentage when you take as many shots as she did)
FT%- she hit about 88% from the free throw line (also very good)
TOV- she averaged 4.6 turnovers a game (not that high, especially for someone having the ball in her hands as much as she did).
As I said, none of what you said was true.
Caitlin was FAR from mediocre when it came to her shooting percentages, and she didn't turn the ball over nearly as much as you led on. VERY aggressive defense being played on her, along with not yet having the chemistry she had with her collegiate team at the pro level, has led to more turnovers to start her career but she'll get that under control. Her shooting percentage has suffered also due to the aggressive defense being played on her, but the more her teammates step up, the less the opposing defenses will be able to concentrate on her. Everything will come with time and experience. Caitlin will be just fine.
That being said, I agree that she takes poor shots at times, but no more than your normal high volume scorer.

No, it's not Fever fans calling for Sides to be fired, it's Iowa Hawkeye fans, who want Fever Clark to be Iowa Clark, who took 19.9 shots a game. They just can't seem to understand, or want to, that Caitlin is now surrounded by other players who can score. She will get her shots, but she will be a facilitator, then a scorer.
How good was the Fever before they drafted Clark? What is Sides record as a head coach? If you watched their first game, you would have seen the iffense she designed was flat, no movement, no screens, no spreading out to create driving lanes, no moving players around for open shots, they all looked lost. Everybody going so hard against Clark, she struggled and didnt have a great game but she also had 20 points and was tied for leading scorer and only took 15 shots lol Its 100% Sides fault, its her job to utilize her best players to their strengths and abilities and find a balance between them and gave them play as a unit to their abilities, she clearly isnt a goid enough coach to do that, instead as you just heard her say in this interview, she is forcing Clark to change her playstyle rathet than playing to her strengths.

CC has to change her game to be effective in the W, last night was an example of that (10 turnovers, not scoring until garbage time, too few assists in a 20 point loss…). The "talent" doesn't look all that much better than college. More aggressive maybe but better??? Not really. I've never seen so many missed opportunities and layups at any level.

I don't see nothing wrong with what the coach said and I'm a big Clark fan. College and WNBA discipline and playing levels are different. Clark even confirmed that she herself is still trying to figure things out. Once Clark understands a little bit more of what is expected or just what the overall WNBA grind is all about, she will emerge as one of the top players. Clark has the gift and the tools. She just needs to refine what she got to face the tougher challenges. She'll be fine. Glad she has a coach that doesn't play around and is brutally honest and unbiased, and not blinded by Clark's popularity🤷🏿♂️💯

There is a difference between "trying to put a player in a position to win" and trashing that player every chance you get. After just getting the best player in college basketball, a significant upgrade to her team, she goes in on her, bashing her public, and it wasnt just this one time. Any athlete knows that’s called constructive criticism. Any good coach wouldn’t throw any of her players, especially a rookie who’s still adjusting to the league, under the bus at a live press conference. Regardless of the sport you play, coach and player disagreements are handled face-to-face, or in the locker room. The coach said nothing negative about Clark. The press asked an appropriate question about her player, and she answered it by telling them only one piece of advice she mentioned to Caitlin. Clark’s a rookie, in a new league, who has only played a handful of games. Like every player, she needs feedback and encouragement.
