Hey Pippa, thank you so much for posting this video. I have an audition for a drama school in two days, via Zoom and I am a bit nervous because I have never auditioned like this before, so this video was really helpfull!
Hi Pippa! I am now preparing my auditions for 2021-2022 course and I was wondering what clothes should I wear. For the contemporary monologue, which is about a strong woman that dies in the Spanish Civil war (Carmela), I thought about wearing a red long dress but every video I have watched about auditioning show people in black clothes... What would you recommend me doing? Thank you for your help!!!
Hey Esther, I've just seen this! Whatever will help you best! Remember most school want you to do more than one piece so something that will show who you are and also help you move freely and not interfere with your performance or distract the panel is best! Break a leg! Let me know if you have anymore questions!
Hi pippa ! i will be doing a self tape soon for my uni audition and it says on the uni's audition information website that their advice is to look " right into the camera " and "address the camera lens directly" should i look right into the camers or like near the lens ( side of the lens or above the lens maybe ) but not directly through the lens ? what's your suggestion ? :)
I've been moving house so missed this my love, apologies! My suggestion is do what they've said ;) if you are ever stuck with these technical things then do an experiment - film a 10 second clip of you looking at the lens and then a 10 second clip of looking the other place you've suggested and then review them and see what works best. Generally though, you have to look at the camera lens to make it look like you're looking at the camera lens if you know what I mean :D x
It's up to you! Check what the school has asked for, some may specify this - if not, I think it's great to show you stepping in and out of each character. As with all things acting - follow your gut - if it suits you to edit it down then do it. Speeches shouldn't be longer that 2 minutes each anyway - less is more!
Hi Pippa, I am about to start all of my self tapped audition videos for drama school but wanted to know when they ask for an introduction at the start what is the best way to approach that so it’s not cliche and also I am 20 but look a lot younger than I am and have been told before that could hinder me with auditions and as you a panellist I just wanted to know if that is true like do drama schools want a more mature look or if people look younger than their age is that okay c
@@jessicawaldron1217 Hi Jessica, do what feels best for you and helps you perform the speeches to your best! Say what you feel and be honest, introduce yourself confidently and own it
I have one question for you, seeng that you are a panelist. I am 17 and I was told that this was a bit of a problem because drama schools are always looking for older people, would you say that is a problem? Thank you :)
Great question. Answer in short is: Nope. Not a problem. (again, this is my opinion and experience, not golden) What IS a problem is when anyone auditions and they aren't sure about what they want to do career wise, are vague and clearly nervous. Remember the panel WANT you to thrive and nail it. The best thing you can be is present, yourself and happy to be there. If you enjoy it the panel will enjoy it. Anymore questions let me know! Good luck with your audition!
I missed this apologies! I sang, Someone Else's Story from Chess. But don't just sing what I sang :) find something you love that helps YOU tell a story well!
@@harrietthornton9785 It’s doesn’t matter what they like what matters is what YOU like and YOU like to sing :) as long as it has a story you’ll be good - they want to see you use your initiative. No, edit it to what they are asking for - BOVTS say a verse and chorus is adequate yes? :) so find a song that has a journey or that you can create a journey in. Act it, don’t think about how pretty you sound.
Hi Pippa, thank you for posting this. I have an audition for drama school where I ve been asked to do a self-tape so this helps. I do have some questions though. How did you choose a monologue? I am having difficulty finding one and I ve got to perform a dance how is the best way to record it? Thank you.
Hi Georgia, thanks for watching and well done on the audition and for putting yourself up for it! I'll record a video about picking a monologue today for you! Is it just a modern they are asking for? And I'll ask around my dancer friends for you r.e. the dance auditions! Lots of love! Pip x
Thank you. Yes I need to choose a contemporary 2 mins long. I'm 23yrs old but I don't look my age so I'm thinking maybe picking a monologue that is younger but not too young. Is that a good idea to do? And how much younger than my age? And I have to do a short dance no more than a minute. If you know anyone that help me with this dance that would be great. Thank you. x
Also, with the dance audition, if you need to change location to record it then stop filming and start again i.e. if you are dancing in your garden, but doing your monologue/song indoors, be sure to stop filming and readjust the camera before you start shooting again. Also spoke to a few of my dancer friends - do it wherever you won't be disturbed and move to your best, safely. I thought maybe an abandoned car park, or an open space where you can focus. If you have to do it in a room in your house then clear the space as much as possible. They're surely going to realise not everyone will have the space or access to a studio right now. They just want to see your potential and know you have some technical understanding of your movement I imagine so be sure to show what you can do! SAFELY. Check the garden for pot holes and things, we don't want any twisted ankles!!! Editing the monologue video now, teaching a dance class this afternoon but should be up and running soon! xx
So late and I'm sorry (had a lot on but I'm back and fresh!) here's the video to help you pick your monologues and songs! If you still have more questions just hit me up babes x
Thanks so much for watching guys! xx

Hi! If I edited the parts between the speeches, just to make it shorter and clearer, would it be a problem?
