@@MatthewBrookKayaking well, it looks pretty challenging. I bought a set, like you, for emergencies. Not sure I'd use them on anything really challenging, mostly to retrieve a paddle. Certainly better than bare hands. I mostly see them used with playboats, but I've also seen guys using them in the Green Race. Hard to imagine.
@@macfawlty absolutely. It's a serious skill to use them well. I have them for emergencies, as you say, but in that instance, want to be able to use them on the grades of river I often find myself. So practice is vital! The guys and girls using them on the Green are next level - not sure I'd ever feel bold enough to try that personally, but then, I once felt that way about running the Green with a regular paddle, so who knows!
Would those hand paddles be of any use as an aide to rolling, say in a confined space such as a small pool? Really struggling with rolling as an intermediate.
Without question, the handpaddles provide greater power on the roll. Handrolling with them requires very little effort. But I wouldn't say they alter the way you roll, i.e. can't see any advantage to them with regards to confined spaces.

Dayum! That is some serious paddling!
Thanks Dave! I always enjoy a good bit of handpaddling, but don't do it enough!
Very few good hand paddling videos out there. Thanks a lot for this one.
Thank you. Perhaps I need to make some more then!

Love to see a video of you hand rolling with your hand paddles. Great video by the way. Top stuff
Thanks Mark. Yeah, definitely. I can give that a go.
Very cool
Thanks Stuart! 😁
Would love to for you to try my new paddles 👀🤞
Oooh, new paddles! What have you got?
@@MatthewBrookKayaking whats best to message you on?

Looks fun. Where have you bought your hand paddles? Would love to try it out myself. 🙂
Thanks Niklas. I got these from Riveraholics in the US, but you could just as easily make some out of some old boat plastic, or a barrel.
I’ve got some Power Pawz, but don’t feel confident at releasing deck if I needed to 🤔
@@AngusRobins that's the major benefit of this design. Easily releasable if needed.
@@MatthewBrookKayaking although rolling is really quite easy I might modify them like the ones that you have…do you have any close up pics?
@@AngusRobins just search for Riveraholic Hand Paddles.
