to be fair we haven't seen a storyshift genocide that is canon, this is at least cannon to it's respective au, also i mean it's probably just how desperate and hopeless it all is, in undertale sans knows he's going to lose, he doesn't care, he just wants to take you down and maybe convince you to turn back but in the end he lacks emotion at all the most he get's is his angry wall slamming at the end of the fight, even when he dies he jokes about and is sorta just like "whelp this was going to happen sooner or later", in this asriel is pulling out all the stops, he wants to stop you, he wants to win because he thinks he can fix this, but during the half way point he realizes that it's worthless, starts to doubt himself and think about his family which you have murdered, people he looked up to and people he respected and as a kid... people he probably thought were invincible, he was going to lose this fight no matter what, despite how mature he is for his age a kid can only take so much before they break down and lose their hope.
@@Tammythemouse i agree with what you say in storyshift, but for undertale, i wasnt exactly talking about just sans per say, i was saying more or less other characters, and that the emotion begins to show when you do a genocide route for the first time after doing and completing your first pacifist route, for me at least, it honestly brought a bit of an emotion, not of sadness or anger, but a bit of an “why am i doing this, no matter what, i cant stop now” feeling after decapitating papyrus for the first time in genocide, i was a bit “emotion sensitive” at the time (and yes, i was kinda young as well, not young young, but young) , and seeing him say “i still believe in you” for the first time almost made me decide to reset and never do the genocide again
finally, you went back to the normal ways, aka having frisk be in the genocide route, and yes I understand that is because of the fact that papyrus is replaced by chara in this au but it should be frisk anyway.
