    Fantastic! I’ve been painting the same “real place” for a few years now, from a picture in my mind. A simple forest setting with a rocky limestone escarpment, deep in the forest of my childhood, a place I haven’t been in many years now. When I look at photographs of this place, my paintings bare only a slight resemblance. But to me my memory and my paintings of the place are very real, and feels more real than the photographs, even though they’re far from “realistic”. Real in that, for me at least, they invoke the feelings and spirit of the place, where the photographs do not.

      Hey Jonathan, it's really great to hear about your own parallel experience with this! It's funny, I still think of it as painting what we 'see', figuratively at least. When painting the same place repeatedly, I can imagine it might be easier to drift even further with each iteration, just keeping that core essence you want to capture each time. Happy painting! 😁

    Responding to the landscape rather than mimicking it evokes deep emotions imo. Beautiful piece 🙏

    As you explain your process behind creating a piece to be the desire to 'capture a feeling' rather than a physical place in form and colour, I have to say I have always found you art to be incredibly impressionistic - to an extent. You describe it as being somewhat 'ethereal' and it definitely feels that way and I really, really love that quality; its a lot like escapism through art, willing a place to be how you feel it to be. Its refreshing to see the way you interpret the world around you, the way you use negative space, its all quite overwhelming sometimes. The spaces seem both loud and quiet at the same time, both lonely and yet so full of vitality and life. I hope you have had and/ or will have a good day today, whenever you see this, thank you Tim!!

      I think your comment made my day, Ben! 😄 I enjoy hearing people's free interpretation that comes with leaving paintings a little open, figuratively and literally. Thank you. 🙂

    I often draw inspiration from real places but allow my minds eye and intuition to guide the unfolding. Thank you for sharing your process. ❤️

    As a Yorkshirewoman living in sub-tropical Australia..... this painting evokes all the emotion and memories of the place i love best. I don't need the details, the colours and flow say it all. Thank you for sharing.

    You captured the dreamy quality of the place Tim, and made it different to both your sketch and the actual area. I love the use of the purple for the hills.

      Thank you. 😁 The purple/pinks are partly horadam aquarelle paints which I've been trying out for a few months and really like.

    This is so beautiful. It’s nice to hear someone with similar aims, except you manage to capture the moods and atmosphere that I strive for and often fail! I walk a line between letting go and allowing the paint to do its thing and adding bits to remind myself of the place in the hope the mood will magically appear. Often when I’m stressed it’s the latter. I love the textures in this one and even though it’s a bit less abstract than others it still allows my imagination to find other things. Thanks you. Jill R

    I like the real place for the reference. It keeps me in balance in my ratios. And keeps me from getting stuck in light and in subject and flow.

    • @TimSchofieldArt
      @TimSchofieldArt  ปีที่แล้ว

      I can definitely understand that. 🙂 I think that references can serve different functions depending on the goal. I used to paint almost exclusively from references using acrylics for very similar reasons!

    During my life I've traveled a lot of places across the U.S.A. and have seen so much. Some are quaint and charming others magnificent beyond words. (And everything in between!) But what stays with me through the years is the energy of each place. When we do art hopefully thats what we bring into physical form. And then we are able to share that with everyone else. Its a wondrous thing, isn't it? Thank you so much for sharing from your little corner of the Universe. Love and Light to you and yours.

      Well said! I'd love to do some more travelling with painting in mine one day. Particularly the redwoods up near Oregon, although I've never visited. Thank you for your lovely comment. 🙂🙏

    Hi! Seeing you on the hill made me want to instantly get up, take my paints and brushes, and leave for the nearest green place :D Btw, what masking tape do you use for the edges? Mine is always peeling off...

      @TimSchofieldArt  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Lana! Sorry, I saw your comment come in and I wasn't able to find it again to reply to at the time. I use magic tape by Scotch. There are different opinions on it, but I like it! 🙂 I was actually thinking about doing a video about different kinds of tape recently, as niche a topic as that is...

    I enjoy your style because it isn't a painting of a picture. It may have some similarities of a place, but the image can be something different to the viewer. It's a wooded forest, or is it ?

    • @TimSchofieldArt
      @TimSchofieldArt  ปีที่แล้ว

      That open interpretation is especially important to me; it's great to hear about the places people see in a piece. Especially when it feels familiar to them! 😁 Thank you.

      One more question about your paper….. do you stretch the paper before using. Maybe it is not necessary to stretch that heavy paper??? I very much enjoy your videos and have watched them over and over again. Doug in Virginia USA

    • @TimSchofieldArt
      @TimSchofieldArt  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dougshomaker5655 Thanks Doug. 🙂 I don't stretch the paper due to the weight of it. If I use a considerable amount of water it can still cause some issues on the larger pieces, but nothing I haven't been able to sort out. With the amount of water I make use of though, lower weights of paper have never worked out well for me!
