The shell pieces were magnificent, even as doublets and having a bit of potch in the face, they still very much caught my eye. Been a while Phil, but finally getting a chance to do some catching up. And here I am wondering if you have any shell pieces a guy might be able to buy ?
My bracelet you made a video on came in yesterday! Its beautiful! Fits my wrist just right with a just enough looseness! Im interested in the 150 parcel with that egg one in it.
Hi, do you think that you have generally increased or decreased the value of these stones by making doublets? I believe some of your stones were thick enough without the need to become doublets. Please clarify Thanks Frazer
Hi, for the most part yes definitely increase, it’s the stones with hidden sand issues underneath that benefit the most as not to my standard of solid, I do think the colour stands out more on some of them, and being able to use the opal as a bar on ironstone maximises it’s potential size. That said they aren’t really my thing, I love solid opal, but nothing ventured, nothing gained, so for me it was a self taught lesson in making doublets well worth any minimal profit lost, and not to discredit the worth of my opal, but I’m not after high end retail prices, I just love doing my thing and try to make it pay for itself with some profit, to afford to buy or mine bigger and better opal and step up the quality of workmanship that entails higher prices, and show that here. 🤪👍
Mate that opal is past it’s best before. The lid says July 2016. 😂😂😂😂. Seriously rough doublets, what a great idea, low risk but still people can have some input, you’re a thinker, possible less money for you, but great idea.
🤣👍 you’ve got a good eye, I hope to make serious $’s from serious opal, but I feel encouraging others to give it a go is the best way to gain more interest for opal, and in the “big picture” it leads to so much more for everyone overall. 🤪👍
I tried to buy a kilo of L/R material for parcels from a seller I’ve not bought from before, let’s just say I won’t again, I couldn’t even consciously give it away in a giveaway, I’ll wait for next Andamooka trip (very close) and buy as I usually do, in person. 🤪👍
@@theopalmills yeah ive found that most large qty has all been rubbed and am having a super hard time finding quality quantity parcels. Regardless of where its from
I don't know if I'm doing a service or disservice by saying this, but I've bought some decent parcels on an auction site. Not gonna say I've gotten any big stones, but have gotten a few very good quality 1-2 carat stones from them that made up for the cost of the parcel(usually).
Any opinion based positive experiences are more than welcome here, I don’t consider myself in competition with anyone so have at it, just no negative as I won’t do “reviews”. 🤪👍
Looking forward to seeing your website and at sometime in the near future making a small purchase.
I think the doublets I've seen look fantastic!

Great vid.. how thick does your saw blade have to be..?
I have 0.5mm saw blade, thinner the better for less carat weigh loss per cut. 🤪👍

Best direction I can point you in from past experience is opalshop.com.au/store/ he has some new parcels up and is great to deal with.
