The reason Maidana did so much better against Floyd than all those other great fighters like Mosley and Pac is because he doesn't care about looking good. He just came forward and through as many punches as he possibly could.

    • @thereelvoice.
      @thereelvoice. 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

Cortez called those two to continue fighting too. Not to mention Ortiz had already apologized and kissed Floyd on the cheek like a weirdo. He was digging his head into Floyd's chin every round. And he finally got frustrated and jumped off his feet like E Honda from Street fighter. Floyd was blazing the kid and was on his way to a late Rd TKO. I wish it would've gone that way, but Floyd more than likely assessed the situation and decided to get him out of there before Ortiz did something even crazier.

I think Canelo was his last truly great performance. Ever since that fight he FINALLY started to look his age. He looked very offstride in the Maidana fight and even in the rematch he still didn't look quiiiiiiiiite right, despite winning it much more easily than the first. He cruised most of the way against a bewildered Pacman who simply didn't have a gameplan, then had a SUPER easy night against a lower level Berto. The Canelo fight was the last time he actually looked GREAT imo. That looked like his body's last hurrah. His balance and timing never really looked as good afterwards.

The victor ortiz fight, 4 times ortiz tried to head butt Floyd. Also floyds mouth was cut , and that could have caused problems in later rounds, also ortiz tried to punk Floyd by kissing him and patting him on the butt. The referee waved them together and ortiz still wanted to play. HBO commentators were biased against Floyd. So instead of calling it straight, again they made Floyd the bad guy. Putting Floyd's greatness in perspective, almost all fighters do well against some opponents and struggle with others. Even Ali had big trouble with certain opponents (Norton, for one). In my opinion, Floyd completely outclassed all of his opponents. Fighters like Maidana and Castillo may have looked like that they gave him trouble but when I watched the fights a second time and more closely, I could see that their punches were missing Floyd and he schooled them both in the rematches. Having said this, Floyd fought all of the top competition in his era but never had to face somebody of Leonard's, Duran's or Hearns' caliber and I don't think he would have beaten all or maybe even any of them. In my opinion, Floyd was the most technically perfect fighter ever, with the most skill.

I am a Pacquiao fan, but it has to be said that several of his noted victories came over guys Mayweather had already defeated and quite frankly he was sort of a one trick pony. There were no significant adjustments during fights or during his career. He just was what he was. If a guy gave him trouble like Marquez for instance, he would always give him trouble. And if a guy couldn't give him trouble like Margarito, he would never give him trouble. He was EXCELLENT at his one trick though and fun to watch. It's fascinating to me.

Floyd was certainly not the most entertaining fighter, but he was highly skilled at his job. I just wish he would have taken every comer at his peak. I mean, he was still a high level boxer but nowhere near his peak self. Same with Pacquiao, who was old, clearly not his best self and had severe shoulder injury prior to the fight which he had to have surgery after. And then there's Berto, Maidana, Ortiz, Guerrero...All high level boxers but clearly not at the required level to be impressive. I do give him credit for Canelo though.

Mayweather had the talent, skills and gift as a boxer. He gets criticized because he never faced a boxer who met these three conditions at once: A boxer who 1. In his Prime 2. Natural weight 3. The best of the division. Mayweather unlike boxers of the 80's did not have a pool of great boxers in his era. Not his fault. Mayweather did not face great boxers and the reason he gets dissed.
I do think that Mayweather would have done good if he fought back in the 80's. Not great, but good. Salvador Sanchez would have been too much at 126. Azhuma Nelson, Julio Cesar Chavez or Hector Camacho at 130 would have been also too much. Roberto Duran would have assassinated Mayweather at 135. Aaron Pryor and Alexis Arguello would have made Mayweather quit at 140. Tommy Hearns, Sugar Ray Leonard and Wilfred Benitez would have been destructive for Mayweather at 147 or 154. Haggler would have killed Mayweather at the weight in at 160.
The 80's fights were 15 rounds with 45 seconds rest in between and same day weight in. No way, know-how Mayweather could have been considered great. His resume is substandard in comparison to the aforementioned great ones.

Floyd = 1 loss to Castillo in their first fight and one draw with Maidona in their first fight. Floyd = 1 knock down to Zab Judah in the second round of their fight. Floyd = overrated stats. Next... Floyd = no first ballet HOFers while in their prime on his resume. Hyped up record and hyped up compubox numbers. Floyd loses to Prime Robinson, Prime Duran, Prime Leonard, Prime Hearns, Prime Pryor, prime Whitaker and possibly to a prime Taylor. Lucky to be in the era he was.

He loses to prime DLH too. Mosley was 39yo when they fought, I thnk younger Mosley gives Floyd more trouble too.

Prime is 25- 35. Simple s saying that he fought 22 world champs. He had a close fight with Castillo it was close . but the best boxer would win in the rematch
And Floyd did. He been knockdown official once hell you can say he got knockdown twice. In 50 fights . plus he was 37 (past prime) when he beat maidana.

In real life...Floyd decisively beat Manny and the fight wasn't remotely competitive.

Ugh...I've seen all of those incredibly idiotic punch-counting videos. Punch-counting is arather misguided approach at judging prize fights. The basic principle is to judge who's being more effective as it pertains to the criteria. Floyd Mayweather Jr., in that regard, clearly and decisively won the fight. This isn't a debatable topic to anyone who has a rudimentary understanding of the sport.

Nonsense fights, when there is no KO or K downs.. are decided by punch stats MW won 7 of the 12 rounds PAC MAN won 5 of the 12 rounds..it was a close fight

Ryan Esau lol yeah, maybe Pacquiao’s mother had the score that close but any unbiased boxing fan or anyone with any knowledge of boxing knows it was more like 9-3 Mayweather. It was not a close fight at all.
This is coming from a huge Pacquiao fan who was rooting for him.

I wouldn't call Mayweather TBE but he's gotta be up there with them . I lot of us didn't always appreciate his defensive fighting style but you have to admit he mastered the sweet science which he made it look artistic.

Great video. Only problem is you forgot to mention maidana just came off a big win against broner and that the fans chose maidana over khan. Yes Floyd gave them the option for those two guys lol but the fans still voted. Khan was fighting once a year against B level opponents and maidana came off his biggest win.
    Other than that great video.

this is what most people that don't like Floyd don't understand that he has character I say that to say this when Mosley hurt him he didn't fold he took it and came back like a champ like mike Tysons mentor said the character is what makes champion.
