I don't even speak Japanese and I LOVE the voice acting. I can't watch it dubbed into other languages; the original Japanese voicing is part of their characters. I love action-spy Loid's quiet, soft voice; the range for Anya between overconfident exuberance and sometimes dejection; Yor's super-gentle family voice contrasted her fierce actual job; and even--Borf!--Bond's whines and barks. It was fun seeing the actual people behind the voices. Thank you!

That's right, the English voice actors are just imitating pre-recorded Japanese voices. The English dub would be much worse if there wasn't pre-recorded Japanese audio to base it off of. Japanese voice actors literally create their acting from scratch, without any models to imitate

Realism isn't necessary for anime, and realistic animal voices are often not cute. Distorted is necessary to match the worldview of the anime. First of all, the animals in the anime are not realistic, so realistic animal voices don't suit them.
