    I have a 2001 Ford Escape same as yours with the same problem. Autozone told me I was misfiring on 2 cylinders which I replaced. The car no longer starts so rough, but it still idles. From what the computer later indicated was that the o2 sensor wasn't working and needed to be checked out. If you still have a problem with it, I recommend checking your o2 sensor and your exhaust.

    If you have a P0301, first you need to check your spark plug on cylinder 1. The spark plug, the coil pack, or any valve (in the worst case) can cause the misfire on your engine. There are a couple of test you can do to check that, but sometimes is not easy to find the troublemaker part

    Make sure air filter box is completely locked down and sealed so MAF sensor gets correct air intake readings and clean MAF hot wire with CRC brand sensor cleaner. Will work great for most of you.

    I have a 2002 Escape (3.0 V6) that is once again doing the same thing as yours. I noticed that the valve cover gaskets were leaking on both sides and flooding the spark plug tubes with oil, and so I just spent 3 days replacing the gaskets, and meticulously cleaning both covers.
    And now to my disappointment, it idles even rougher than before! I guess my next plan of attack would be to try a friend's code reader...any other hints?

    I think one coil pack will be bad. Check is easy. Start the engine and disconnect gradually one coil pack and listen the engine. If the coil pack is good the rpm go down. If it is bad the rpm will not change. If all coil pack is good you need to check spark plugs.

    My wife has an 05 Escape with 3.0L. Just finished replacing the stock plugs and coils, but -stupidly- forgot to replace the PCV valve. I did check for vacuum leaks and buttoned it back up. Now it's running like this and I think it's a bad PCV valve, or worn hose. So that's the next thing I'm going to check, along with cleaning the electronic MAP sensors.

    Have you changed your oil pump or fuel pump it could be bad gas .when there putting gas in big tank under ground .something you get the last dirty gas in the tank. You could change the filter in the gas tank to save some money.

    Same damn thing, I've cleaned the MAF, put on a new EGR valve, DPFE Sensor, IAC Valve. I'm starting to think the Intake is bad or cracked

    Did you figure out the issue? My escape began doing that after replacing the alternator. I'm not sure as to what it could be. It was fine before my alternator went out but it sounds exactly as yours does/did.

    I had problems like this found it is multitude of issues that cause this intake manifold gaskets uppers and lowers pcv vavle dirty iac vavle covers spark plugs and tube seals seems better now although still has the a slight jitter in stop while in drive

  • @TheKnightrider215
    @TheKnightrider215 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I heard the ticking noise. sound like the PCV either clog or a leak. They are pain to get to. You have to remove the manifold. I would of do everything at once spark plugs and coils since the manifold has to be off to change the pcv. Mostly will solve everything.

    I have a 09 escape xlt. My engine started running rough too. Not like that, but it does sort of clatter like that. It misfires sometimes when I step on the gas. I think it has to either be the spark plugs or coils. I have just about the same amount of miles on mine as yours.

    Im have this on my 2002 Ford Escape it can be a few things, a vacuum leak, the egr or egr gasket, idle air control valve, or clean the throttle body.

      I have also put about every thing on my 2002 that has this problem.mine is getting alot better.my advice start cheap.START with a manifold gasket kit that includes the throttle body gasket and iac gasket and the egr gasket that's the one that really helped.valve cover gaskets also.set of spark plugs.pvc valve sounds like alot but u will start seeing a big deferance.

  • @fairbornCCF

    Sounds like a vacuum leak, vacuum hoses are too close to the hot components and rot quickly. Look for cracking hoses and replace them.
    It has been a while, did you figure it out already?

  • @MrAquinas1
    @MrAquinas1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I had '05 Mazda Tribute v6 that was misfiring. For you I recommend checking the EGR and idle air control valve and inspect everywhere for vacuum leaks. The idle control valve is a fairly common failure for a high mileage vehicle. Often it can be corrected with a gumout cleaning (they are easy to remove and replace) Do you ever get a misfire? If so, I hate to bear bad news, but a bad pcm could be the problem.But don't get nervous if you don't have that misfire. I had a misfire in one cylinder and after changing the plugs (the old still looked good with 82000 miles) and coils I still had the problem and was forced to change the pcm ($500 reconditioned), which fixed the problem. The good news is that it's an easy thing to do yourself. It's right up high on the firewall.

    Anyone ever have the exact fix for this issue? Looks like others are still looking. My 2001 is doing this. My check engine light doesn't come on and there are no codes to read.

    could be a vacume leak or a vacume line leak or gaskit leak spray throttle body intake and lines ...if engine changes idle the its a leak....

    same problem , i replaced the idle air solenoid helped for a bit but done it again , then i discovered the egr vacuum solenoid was faulty, it was opening the egr valve at idle ,so i replaced it and so far so good, to test it i just popped the vac hose off the top of the egr at idle if it instantly idles good that may be the problem was with mine ,, , now i got a new problem with the batt light flickering and a miss while driving ,,, not happy

      Alternator...I had same exact problem, you have to buy a Bosch alternator, any other brand you'll be lucky to have it work correctly, I went thru 3 before finally coughing up $300 for a Bosch

    Okay guys, I have an 05 ford escape 4 cylinder, it idles up and down and sometime it'll ever kill it's self. I've replaced the spark plugs and ever the idle sensor but it seems to still do it, and even when I go down the road it'll kinda have a jerk to it sometimes like it's missing, my uncle is a mechanic he's the one that has done all the work on it so far, he told me there's another sensor and it could possibly be that one, other than that the car runs and drives great I just wanna get this problem fixed as soon as possible. And he also said coils on these usually don't go bad, but he called advance to see how much they'd run in price range and there a little over a 100$ a piece, so that's kinda up there, but just make sure it isn't the coils, mine are good but like he said it could be they other sensor.

    I had real headaches with my 2001 Escape. One bad coil can throw many code combinations. I learned from experience. Ruff idle, lean banks, rich conditions. various mis-fire codes. Vacuum leak etc. My escape sounded EXACTLY like this until I found the ONE bad coil. I hope this will help someone..

  • @rockin870
    @rockin870 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The easy thing would be to clean the throttle body, IAC, and MAF. The leaks could have been caused by a clogged PCV, pushing gases, and oil, passed the gaskets.

    The is exactly what mine was doing but I'm about to change my head gaskets cause it keeps pushing the water out of my resavwar I'm pretty sure mine has jumped time a tooth and I'd just about bet that's what the problems are here to cause the bolts that holds down the cam shafts loosens up on there own from what I was told and the 3.0l v6s are the world's worst for doing just this ...
